Re: S Mike Doss?
It's kind of a shame. He was so awesome at OSU. He just can't stay healthy. If he's a free agent I'm all about inviting him to camp. But all the leg injuries he's had, for a speed position player, he's a longshot at best.

Re: S Mike Doss?
Mike Doss would still be way better the Reed Doughty
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
Doss is a scrub.

Not in this lifetime! I'd have to pass on Doss. |
Re: S Mike Doss?
See I disagree about Doughty. What he lacks in size and physical gifts he makes up for with smarts and toughness. He's one of my favorite players.
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
great college career, no telling about the knees though. I would like to see any movement at safety.
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
Hes worth the vet minimum but no more than that
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
He is worth a vet min contract and let him battle it out with Doughty in training camp and if he beats out Doughty in training camp then offer him a better contract
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
Im all for upgrading at every position as well as depth, but Mike Doss is not the answer either way....Im a Doughty fan for his tenacity, he made the team, he studied and fought to become a starter...unless one of the rookies can unseat him(Kareem Moore,,Chris Horton.. Doughty is my choice as starter at SS
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
This is not the Mike Doss that played the 1st 3 yrs for the Colts - in 2005 I would have supported signing him, but not this year. I don't see him beating Doughty.- may be worth the "vet min".
Mike Doss would still be way better the Reed Doughty
does the top of this site say "discussion for the knowledgeable fan" or what? a key contributor to us making the playoffs last season was doughty holding his own at SS along with landry playing very well at the FS position. |
Re: S Mike Doss?
Doughty is not a heavy hitter at the safety spot to me a safety should always play the great late ST and Ronnie Lott. And to me Doughty doesn't bring any of those qualities at safety
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
Question for all u other fans. Would any of u make a trade for Roy Williams the safety in Dallas or pick him up if they were to release him
|

But Mike Doss does? |
Re: S Mike Doss?
I always thought Doughty was a pretty strong tackler. I mean his hits probably won't make highlight tapes, but he is pretty solid. From what I know Doss isn't a bad hitter either but I wouldn't put Doss too much over Doughty in the tackling category.

Won't be much of a battle. Doughty knows the system and will probably be even better next year due to his training regimine as well as the fact that he has around 6 or 7 games as a starter all games in which he earned high marks from the coaching staff, the only opinion that really matters. I mean whats your problem with Doughty, is it because he was a 6th round pick? Do you need a higher rated safety on your team for your Madden franchise? We went through this exact situation with Adam Archletta. We had a good compliment to Taylor in Ryan Clark and what do we do? We sign Adam Archuletta to a big fat contract and let Clark go to the Steelers. By the middle of the season most of the fan base realized that letting Clark go was a mistake. Now we're faced with a similar situation, in that we have a great compliment to our star safety in Doughty. The only difference is this time the front office isn't bringing in some big name to compete with Reed. One things for sure, if a "big name" is released part of the fan base will be all over the guy screaming vet min. I mean last year Leftwich gets released and the fan base starts screaming "vet min we have no one behind Campbell, we can develop him." Erasmus James, 5 sacks in 23 career games, "lets get him, what do you mean Chris Wilson got 6 sacks last year?" Roy Williams is rumored to be leaving Dallas when his contracts up, lets get him, he's great in coverage. Koren Robinson vet min Adam Arcuhletta released by the Bears vet min I mean damn, everytime. I guess part of me has come to accept it, that this is the way things are but still I can't believe how predictable this phenomenon has become. |
Re: S Mike Doss?
Mike Doss is a heavy hitter just like the great safetys were. Doughty never lays people out. I wish they would make a trade for Roy Williams from Dallas
|
Re: S Mike Doss?
Doman, Doss' injury problems over the past three years don't concern you at all? You don't think a solid (if unspectacular) Doughty who actually is on the field and has the support of his teammates is a better choice than Doss? You don't think we should Horton and/or Moore can ultimately be valuable depth at the safety position?
|

In that case your argument is Doughty doesn't give you enough material for a highlight reel. And as far as Doughty never lays people out, I doubt that. I'd have to look at the games again but I doubt you can label Doughty as soft, by nature you don't put finese players at SS. Roy Williams apparently has major issues with coverage. He may not be as bad as Archuletta, but coverage is definately not one of his strengths. The 2005 MNF actually exposed Roy Williams not once, but twice. The good news is the FO and coaching staff has obviously decided to develop within so lobbying to bring in guys like Doss before the season starts is a moot point. If the Redskins are worried about a particular position they will sign a veteran after the season starts. However for now Moore, Horton, and Scott will all have a chance to make the team and possibly contribute one day on defense. Weather or not I'm right about Doughty, only time will tell, but he's definately earned a chance to prove himself. Re: S Mike Doss?
I think people around here have a little bit of Snyderitis. they must have the big name, can't handle a 6 round hard working kid starting. Doughty played very well for us last season. he and Landry have a nice chemistry, they are a cohesive pair of safeties. We were 8th in the NFL, with out Taylor, with out Rocky, Daniels banged up, Griff banged up, Marcus sitting out. There was a ton of pressure on those two young guys, especially with Rogers out too. His has decent speed, is a smart dude, and anticipates the plays very well.
oh, who is calling for us to sign Roy Williams?? are you people nuts?? He sucks... why do you think the Boys are sitting him pretty much on all passing downs? that isn't what I would call a wise move by trading for him. |

Doughty was pretty solid and should continue to improve with experience. Let's give the kid a chance. |
Re: S Mike Doss?
I am not sure why all the Doughty Doubt. I haven't seen him blow a lot of plays or get beaten deep consistently. As I recall he seemed to be a solid if not spectacular player.

Re: S Mike Doss?
But before they put the wimpy ass horse collar penalty in Williams was tearin it up with that signature tackle they only put the penalty on that cuz TO broke his leg from it

Have you been reading the press on Williams? or heard Newman's comments? "A deer in the headlights" when it comes to coverage. Ranting in an unsigned memo to the press when a reporter criticizes him? Coaches saying he simply isn't smart enough to grasp the pro-defense? Williams has ALWAYS been a one dimensional player and, since the retirement of Woodson, has survived on name recognition and Madden-Man-Crush. As for the horse-collar, it's a wussy ass way to tackle and certainly not "laying someone out". I'd take Doughty over Williams any day of the week. |

Most safeties are though. He deserves first crack at the job. |

Thanks NM, if you liked that post then you'll love my upcoming "Reed Doughty Bashers - EXPLAIN" thread, where I ambush the people on the forum with one of the most unproductive threads in the history of the Warpath. But all kidding aside I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that feels like Doughty can play. Doman, no offense but a lot of your rationalizations as to why you want the Redskins to sign particular players seem to be superficial. I'm definately not right 100% of the time and maybe I'm wrong about Doss, but I need a better argument then he's a hard hitter, and tearin it up. Not to mention false accusations concerning Doughty's playing style. |

Instituting a penalty for "horse collar tackles" is not wimpy. That kind of tackle is akin to kicking someone in the knee cap. Besides, if you were a tough guy, would you have to resort to using your body weight to drag someone down by the shoulder pads? IMO, tough guys use violent hits and solid wrap-up tackles to bring players down. |

Horse collar tackle = dirty and cheap

Wrong, but thanks for acting like a 5 year old and discrediting yourself.
Your giving a little to much credit there SGG. I know 5 year olds that are 10 times smarter than that MORON! And by the way who is 'Dion Snaders'...? I don't remember him? I remember Deion Sanders well and wasn't a fan of his. But I'm just curious why this doman29 or whoever the hell you are maybe offiss II is still around, he offers absolutely nothing to this board of any merit. Hope they ban your ass, maybe even TODAY! |

Not to hijack this thread but...
Multiple accounts are not allowed on this site, and if you've been banned once don't try coming back under another username because we will find out and ban you (again). In fact, if you do that you have the honor of having Matty himself ban you. So just some food for thought doman29 aka artyK75 aka redskins21x. |

Pussy ass? Have you ever met a retired NFL player? I had three coaches in high school they played in the NFL for about 3 or 4 years each. One coach played for the Packers in the 70's, he has to bend over when he walks. Another played for the Broncos in the late 80's and was on the team when the Redskins played the Bronoc's in the Super Bowl. Today he walks with a limp. And the last guy, well he was a QB for the Saints, and now he has problems that I would rather not discuss here. And despite the fact that my last paragraph may support your argument, for the NFL turning into a pussy ass league, the fact remains that a lot of the guys that make a living in the NFL, don't leave without some sort of reminder. There are countless lineman that can barely move there hands since they used them for punching opposing players off the line of scrimage. Some can barely walk. Others suffer brain damage. You think Dan Morgan is just walking away from football without any scars? And its not just on the Pro level. Remember the scene in Varsity Blues where Paul Walker gets a cortisone shot that leads to the end of his football career? You think thats never happened in real life? Still as Mike Ditkas recent campaign has pointed out too many players are not getting the treatment they need after their career is over. If anything football is even more violent these days. Back in the early days a guy running a 4.5 40 was probably a special thing to have. These days you have defensive lineman that can run in that range. And every year thanks to advancements in training and nutrition the players are getting bigger, stronger, and faster. In turn the amount of PSI (Pounds of pressure per square inch) that players are capable of dishing out has more likely then not increased exponentially. Is the human body evolving fast enough to handle the beating football players take on a regular basis? Probably not, the players might be getting bigger and stronger, but it's still the same human body, only now we have means to maximize its potential. Some of these rules might be stupid, like the 5 yard contact rule or the recent emphasis on protecting the passer, but since then the NFL has evolved to a point where players have a beter chance to live a normal life after they retire. And personally thats more important then your desire for extreme macho football will ever be. Edit: Shit, as soon as I finish writing all that you guys ban Doman. Y'all are pussy asses. |

Personally I like Doughty... Who ever said he cant hit is dead WRONG, this kid will lay people out. I think he really picked up his play after ST went down. And i respect the hell out of him for that. Now i think he plays with ST in mind. I wouldnt have it any other way.
