108th US Open at Torrey Pines

The stage is set for the 108th US Open at Torrey Pines South Course and this course is going to prove to be a heck of a challenge even for the worlds best. These guys are up against a beast that will be tuff to tame especially if the wind/weather becomes a factor playing at 7,643 yards par 71.

First, I don't look for Tiger to be a factor come Sunday afternoon in this years Open first tournament back after surgery this will prove to be to much, even for Tiger.

My top three's picks to be in contention on Sunday afternoon will be:
Phil Mickelson
Boo Weekley
Padraig Harrington

My top three could be surprise picks are as follows:
Brandt Snedeker
Rod Pampling
My wild shot.......Sergio (if I only could make a putt) Garcia

Who are you picking to win the US Open?

Good picks there.

Look out for Adam Scott, 3 Top 10s and 1 win in 8 starts (made all 8 cuts). And Stewart Cink, who has played very well this year (No wins, but 2 2nds and 2 3rds).

My long shot: Jason Bohn (only because we have something in common...our name)

Thanks Jason...I mean BDBohnzie......ya never know in these majors it could be another lesser known player as we witnessed last year. Who would have played those odds?

Scott is legit and playing well some putting struggles but I don't think he will be a factor . Cink seams to always be in there just can't finish coming down the stretch. And for Jason....bad news.....doesn't make the cut, sorry man...LOL

Anyway, here is the list of players in this years 2008 U.S. Open from 1-156 and I believe their where predictions. Should be a great four days of golf and one heck of a challenge for all.

11:06 a.m. - 4:36 p.m. Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods
hopefully Scott doesn't get too intimidated

3:52 p.m. - 10:22 a.m. Stewart Cink, Sergio Garcia, Vijay Singh

4:03 p.m. - 10:33 a.m. Trevor Immelman, Zach Johnson, Mike Weir

I'm going with Phil so he will have won all 4 majors and this is his home course. Well it was redone a few years back but he has played a many rounds here. I think while Tiger will lurk around this weekend the rust and his knee will bring him down but if he did pull out a win it would not surprise me either.

Nothing at all...go to sleep, that boring ass PTI same old shit! OR you can watch the the GREATEST golfing event in the states....The U.S Open, pretty simple.

They at least have a tiny clue what most of the world want to watch, they want a little action on the ratings.....:spank:

Woods' performance Saturday night is just silly. I think he puts MJ to shame when it comes to the sheer balls of his excellence. Club members that make those shots spend the rest of their lives telling you about it, and he has three in one round. If he had sold his soul for those shots he woud still have the better end of the deal.

While I am a PTI fan, I think they made the right choice...especially considering they aired PTI on espn2. No big deal really.

It's impossible to compare Woods to Jordan, but I understand your point. We are witnessing the best player this world has quite possibly ever seen. He's so dominant it's not even funny to be another contestant. He's just flat out amazing. These are the kinds of performances we will be telling our grandchildren about.

Re: 108th US Open at Torrey Pines

Well what a Sunday afternoon at Torrey...Tiger comes alive on the back 9, what a performance, and that clutch putt on 18 to make it go another day, only Tiger.

And Rocco WOW! What a hell of a round he put together. At 45 he is still playing great golf and I don't think anyone has more fun than Rocco, class act. I'm sure he would do anything to have 18 over again but thats golf.

Monday, the clear favorite is Tiger. I hope Rocco has the day of his life going toe to toe against Tiger because thats what its going to take to hoist the trophy. Should be fun to watch, I'm pullin for the Huge underdog (but it's just like any other day of match play golf, one hole at a time, and Rocco did put together a better round score wise than Tiger today, can he do it twice...?)...go Rocco!

I'm pulling for Tiger. I'm not one to be enamored by star athletes, but Tiger is an exception.

Rocco had a very good round, with an excellent short game, but my god did he miss some puts. He had multiple opportunities to put the tourney away on the back nine and didn't. I think with Tiger's knee, a full 18 hole playoff benefits Rocco.

I think that Tiger will take it to Rocco today. What a great tournament and kudos to the USGA for setting up a tough, yet very fair golf course this year. Good golf, great course and great crowds made this one a great tourney.

Re: 108th US Open at Torrey Pines

While I'd never bet money against Tiger I think today if Rocco can keep up his play and not fold in the moment he beats Tiger. I just think Tiger's luck (which making those long Eagle putts took skill it also takes Luck) will run out in his round today. Rocco has played more conssitant than Tiger and that is what it takes to win the US open. How many people knew that Tiger's last putt on 18 Sunday was going to drop? I did!

Re: 108th US Open at Torrey Pines

Tiger's comeback was exciting to watch. He had bad luck on the putt on 16 or 17, when it was heading in and hit something, making it go left. Without that, it would've been a championship-winning shot on 18.

Usually, when someone wins constantly, a lot of people including myself roots for them to lose. It's not like that with Tiger. It's hard to root against him.

Hopefully, he'll hit a fairway on Hole 1 today. He has 3 double bogeys and a birdie on 1 this tournament.

He's going to win this U.S. Open on one leg. Even with a bum knee, he's better than everyone else in the world.

Well you could also say that his cip that bounced up a couple of feet and hit the flag pole and feel straight down into the hole was just lucky. I know he did and its always a little luck when things are this tight in a match. When a players wins by 4 or more strokes it takes the luck out of the picture.

Yea, I saw that. Earl said nobody EVER would be more mentally focused/tough than Tiger.......pretty good assessment.

Should be a good back nine Rocco is down by 2. He better kick it in high gear!

The announcers both on ESPN earlier and on NBC now are so flagrantly cheering for Rocco. It's pretty amusing. Rocco and Tiger are tied right now, and they just said Rocco has him on the ropes. ????

I don't think they are cheering Rocco any more then Tiger they just are happy that Tiger did not start to walk away with this when he was up by 3. Now Rocco has a one stroke lead and they are cheering for Tiger.

Rocco off the cartpath up against the grandstand on his second shot, Tiger on the green. Game over. Too bad. It was hard not to pull for the guy. He could have been the oldest 1st time major champion ever. Needless to say, I think he'll be ranked higher than 158th in the world after this performance. I'd like to thank them both golfers for making this my most unproductive Monday of all time.
