JKC was a mean old bastard. If I had that kind of money I'd leave everything to my family memebers. Not to some trust which happens to be a bunch of people who worked for him. It makes no sense. He only left his own son 25 mil or so out of a billion?? That's crazy.

it just seems like a small % to leave your oldest living son that was running your football team. you're worth 800 mil or a billion and you leave the person you're probably closest to 25 mil? i know john got 10% of the sale from the team. i know that's a shitload of cash. but why not leave the team to your own son and keep it in the family? i could never understand why jkc did that. the mara's and hunt's didn't do what jkc did. but hey....it's his $ and he did what he wanted to do.

First, she can pay for her own college if she lives within her means. She gets $50k/year. I'm sure she is eligible for student loans (which is different from financial aid), even if $50k is "not enough" (wait till Schneed gets a hold of this thread).

Second, what if his son is an idiot? JKC put the Skins in the hands of the people he thought could run it best. In this case, that was the free market.

And, she's sitting on $6 million in principal (up from $5 million 10 years ago). By the time she can cash out, she'll have $10 million. Which she will blow through in about 10 years, I'm sure, without the help of the trust.

The funny part to me was the end of the [I]Wash Post[/I] article- her attorneys said she's "depressed" from the "total frustration and emotional suffering of fighting for every dollar." HUH???

She's getting $50K/year now, in less than 2 years when she hits 21 she'll be getting $100K/yr for 14 years. Then at 35 she gets 8% of the total value of the trust annually, which right now would be around $500K/yr. And that's GUARANTEED! She doesn't have to bat an eye to get those funds. Ohhh, the suffering!! Ohhh the frustration!!

I got a friggin idea, count your blessings for being more financially fortunate than 99.5% of the planet, get a stinking job for a while, or better yet, go to a public university in Texas. There are plenty of them. It's not you're being denied a college education because you can't afford $23K a year in tuition. This is a joke.

The article says she can't get a loan because of the $5M trust. Which is why I suggested a public university.

I'm pretty sure the attorney in the article is wrong. It would disqualify you for need-based aid, but not a private student loan - in fact, I would think banks would LOVE a customer like her.

You're absolutely right about a private student loan. Regardless, her mother was quoted as saying "her father never intended for her to want for an education." Want for an education??? Please. University of Texas at Austin has tuition, room, and board for just a hair over $16K annually.

She was also pulled over in a BMW 325i. BMW of Columbia has a used 2006 model for $27,990. Oh, and then there is the fact that, from what I can gather from that article, her mother was a serious gold digger who went after a super rich man who was 43 years older than her, stayed with him long enough to get pregnant, and managed to get a $5M trust for her daughter out of the deal. Classy folks.

I don't know the girl, but from the sounds of it (whining about a huge inheritance while driving your BMW under the influence at age 19) she's got a pretty big sense of entitlement. I sincerely hope she actually wants an education, but I'd be surprised if getting a college degree means a whole lot to her. Probably just something for her to do until she turns 21 and her annual payments go up to $100K.

What if a super rich women wanted you to marry her and she was 43 years older than you? She was worth a billion dollars. You knew when she died you'd be set for life. Would you do it? Call me classless but I would. In this women's case he cut her out of the will and only left money to the kid.

JKC knew what he was doing. He just wanted to bang some younger tail. Look at Hugh Hefner? Or the guy that married Anna Nicole? Thats in state tuition out of state is 24,500 plus 8,500 room and board so its close to 33,000. I don't feel sorry for her just correcting the amount for anyone who may.

He did not want to just leave everything to his son and thought they needed to work for their money. What he did get to us a a bunch of money but compared to his estate was very small. I have a friend who has become very wealthy and is worth about 14mil or more. He still did not let his son fly in 1st class when going with him on business trips becasue he felt that he needed to earn it. I thought that was a little over board but his son has grown up and is doing very well on his own. Some times tough love is the best love a parent can give. It does not seen to have work for JKC daughter.

Well, I'm assuming she's a resident of the state of Texas, which is why I posted those numbers. Regardless, my point was she can attend a good public university in whatever state she resides and pay much less than the $23K in tuition at SMU.

Nope , I agree you would think other wise but after doing all the paper work for my daughter and college for the last 4 years that if that child has any money at all loans are almost impossible to get!

Ok,but here is the question ...why should she have to?She is the child of a very wealthy man and he ...the estate or family can pay why should the state money go to her instead of someone that really needs it?She is getting screwed buy her family....her mom is a BITCH but don't take it out on the kid......her dad was a SOB also, had he done his homework the Danny would'nt have the Skins now and things would be better....IMHO.

How?I mean just read this thread she is a girl in college who screwed up,if anyone here went to college we all pretty much did the same thing ...she got caught.Let me ask this ,how many of you out there when you make a mistake or screw up is it put in the paper the next day.....a National paper and what was her big crime,her dad was a horney old man who fought with his wife (actualy all his wives) and your step brother who is 50 years older than you is mad at you becuase his old man screwed him out of one the Major NFL teams,yeah she's a brat all right....maybe she has reason?

Do you really know anything about Jack Kent Cooke? Did you even read the article or the posts on this thread? Sure, she got a DUI. But the issue is how she is whining and fighting and suing her father's estate for more money. She's been getting 50K/yr her whole life so far, it goes up to 100K yr as soon as she hits 21, and once she's 35 she'll get in the neighborhood of 500-600K/yr for the rest of her life. And she's bitching about it, and clearly has a pompous, holier than thou attitude. JKC only left his eldest son $25M, which is a lot, but peanuts compared to his $1 billion+ fortune. He wasn't into showering family with absurd amounts of money. So what?

Seems I know more than you do ,She has not gotten 50 grand a year, that went to Mom and I admit it's not chump change and it did not start till after the court fight I think she was 10 .The estate of JKC has been nickel and dimeing this kid to death in a fight with her Mom.....monies that belong to the child.The Money might have been awarded but it has been appealed many times.Dn't like her mom fine I can see that but to pick on the kid becuase see will ...years down the road make more money then you is infantile.

Wait, you think I'm "picking" on the kid because down the road she'll "make" more money than me?? That's a laughable, and, well, infantile assumption. First of all, inheriting money is much different than "making" it. Second, I'm giving her and her family a hard time for suing the estate for 9 figures when she's set to inherit millions anyway. I'm giving her family a hard time for suggesting that she's being denied a right to an education because the foundation is not showering them with more cash. And I'm also ragging on her for her lame drunken behavior while tooling around in her BMW underage and hammered at 5am. She's young so she'll get a pass character-wise from me for the DUI if it's an isolated incident, but that doesn't mean she's above being criticized for it.

The whole "poor us" attitude they're taking is so lame. If you read my earlier posts on this thread, you would have seen my big beef is with the greed and helpless position they're taking. Using words like "emotional suffering" because she's not getting more money right now (she's over 18 so she gets it, not her mom) from her trust is just weak. She'll be set financially no matter what, but it's not all being given to her at once. Boo hoo. How is JKC's foundation "nickel and diming" her? By sticking to the guidlines of the trust Mr. Cooke himself set up? The foundation is simply following the plan it's founder laid out for his daughter. But what does her family do? They try to sue for over $200M. What a joke.
