Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips, who never says anything mildly controversial, jumped out of character and provided the Giants with some great bulletin-board material this week. Speaking to high school and youth football coaches in the Dallas area about the Cowboys, Phillips blurted out, "Get your ring finger ready, that's right."
Dallas Cowboys' first Super Bowl shot rings out to Giants While every team in the NFL has aspirations to win the SB this year, it's probably a little aggressive for Wade Phillips to call his shot. I guess the Gmen aren't too happy about it. |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Dear old Wade needs to actually win a playoff game first before making such lofty statements.
He just needs to stick a doughnut on that finger and shut the hell up. |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Well with the team he has if he thought other wise I have to question him. Now saying that out in public might be an issue sense they have not been able to get past the 1st game of the playoffs.
|
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
of course he has his ring finger ready. because if he doesn't get it done this year he knows he'll have to get his walking boots ready!
|
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
NO Chance the Cowgirls win the SB this year, Greg Novis told me that the PAC MAN has been taking out FAT WADE and all the rest of those loosers to the cheapest strip clubs in dallas (he is broke as a joke) and they will all become "rain makers' and loose all asperation of the ring.

Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Reading the title, why would that be a reason to dislike the Cowboys. Wouldn't that come across as Nitpicking? What's wrong with a coach showing a little confidence in his team.
This is a new season. |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
I'm sporting my Skins jersey to work today and during lunch a Cowboy fan spots me in the elevator and sneers "it's going to be the Cowboys' year just like last year." I put the poor bastard in his place and remind him only a Cowboy fan would consider a one-and-done year a great year. Moral of the story? Keep your mouth shut unless you've won something important, or at least a playoff game.
|
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
I guess we just have to wait for the season but I feel this will end with a smile on my face. That smile may be from just Dallas first playoff win in a long time and not the big win. The big BIG win would make me have a smile on my face until the next season began.

But winning playoff games is the first start. It's strange. Me and my Redskin fan buddies always get into these debates with each other. I will listen to them about Dallas's playoff woes. But........... When I mention SB wins the room seems to all of a sudden get quiet. I guess they were put in their place. LOL!

Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Ok. Here it is. First one of the year:
Dallas Sucks. |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
here's my take on that....wade better get that ring finger ready or better yet i got him getting that resume ready when he gets fired at the end of the season.
|
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
I guess Wade knows he's getting fired, so he might as well say whatever the hell he wants.
|
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Well............if you have ever heard Wade speak he does not strike you as any........Einstein. He has made a pretty decent coach, but he totally sounds like a dumbass

You seriously need to change your avatar. Something in an ugly shade of blue would suit you well. Until Dallas achieves that 6th ring, they still remain in the company of SF and Pittsburgh. If superbowl wins is an indication of a team's greatness then they cannot be heralded as such as long as they share that distinction. It becomes tiresome when Cowboys fans have nothing better to offer in a football discussion other than attempting to deflect criticism with the 5 rings mantra. I never get that response from Steelers fans. They don't rest on their laurels and you can always count on them to engage in intelligent football discussions. Unlike the typical Dallas fan who, more often than not, struggles to name 5 players on their roster at any given time. |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
Wade Phillips is under the least pressure of any NFL coach this year.. If he wins, he gets to retire on top. If he loses, he already knows he's getting fired because his replacement is on staff.. Expect Homer Simpson to be saying a bunch of crazy things this year, he's got nothing to lose!

We're not the Cardinals or the Seahawks. We have 3 SB rings...and we don't play the "my d*ck is bigger than your d*ck" game. |

It may have something to do with them not being your rivals. WOW! Oh yeah. When I try to narrow it down to just plain W-L records between the Cowboys and Redskins head to head the room somehow still gets real quiet. So it's not just the "SB mantra". |

Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
to me,hating dallas is like counting the numbers.you never run out of numbers, and you never run out of reasons to hate the dallas cowboys!!!!!the giants and the eagles are'nt too far behind either.as strange as it seems, most of the cowboy fans i know are a lot better than the eagle and giant fans i know.

That's where it all starts. With that said, wouldn't some of these fans just hate that. That means they really wouldn't have anything to talk about anymore. If there is something else.................What is it?

Brunell to Moss, twice. need i say more? Kilmer to Taylor? Ken Houston against Walt Garrison? Daryl Grant in the end zone? Aikmans career being ended? its a very long list |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
From an eyewitness account of someone who was actually at the clinic where Wade Phillips allegedly made this comment:
Wade Phillips was introduced and was walking to the podium while he was there was a gentleman up front yelling over and over GET YOUR RING FINGER READY! GET YOUR RING FINGER READY! he yelled it at least 10 times. Wade looked at the table and then went on speaking, toward the end of the speech the guy starts yelling it again GET YOUR RING FINGER READY! Wade Phillips gets a smirk on his face and says yes get your ring finger ready.
Now the individual who reported this was actually sitting at the table right next to the guy yelling "get your ring finger ready". I understand the skepticism on my team regarding the post season. They have earned that distinction them selves. But in the same context I seem to remember a team that went 13-3 in 1996/97 season and lost in the same round of the playoffs that Dallas did last year. But that team then went on to win back to back Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999. So I take solace in that fact. |

Is this the big play segment? Okay, let's see. I have so many, but here are just a few. Dallas 27-Redskins 0. Newman had 3 ints in that game and Troy Hambrick out of all people had 189 yards rushing. Testaverde to Crayton TD for the win with 30 seconds left. Ebenezer Ekuban drags Jeff George 5 yards like a rag doll. Romo to T.O. for FOUR TDs. Need I say more? |

LOL Seriously whats up with a Skins fan sticking up for our hated rival? If there's ever a time to be biased and irrational it's when you're talking about your biggest rival. |

I grew up in the rivalry too, I live it now, and will die in it. Sure it's good to go up against the Giants and Eagles, but it's Dallas that gets it going. W-L and/or injuries never matter, because it's always an evening playing field. Props to the legacy of George Allen who created this rivalry. Tom Landry, too. Btw, how do you think Romo's gonna screw you this year? Goal line fumble or interception? |
Re: Another reason to dislike the Cowboys?
I don't need another reason to hate Dallas. I've hated them since the early 70s. I hate them because it turns my stomach to watch the media continually fawn over a group of underachievers. Outside of the 92-95 run, for the most part Dallas has consistently had talent and had difficulty bringing home the goods. With the talent Dallas has had over the years they should have more than 5 SBs.
What makes me even more sick to my stomach is the Cowgirl fans in general. Present company is excluded from these statements because I am assuming you guys are real fans or you wouldn't be posting in the offseason here. But even you guys/gals have to notice all the Dallas jerseys and hats and everything else when Dallas is doing well, when they're down the fair weather fan-base goes back into the closet. A few of us were mentioning this in another thread a while back, nothing burns many of us more than the Dallas fans who have no connection whatsoever to Dallas or Texas. You don't see anywhere near as many fair weather Redskins fans. Plus, as dblanch66 so eloquently stated, "Dallas sucks." |

How many passes for TDs did Crayton drop in that game. With that said, I also credit the Giants pass rush for disturbing the timing of the offense. It would have been interesting to see T.O. at full strength too. Remember, he was playing with that sprained ankle from the Carolina game. It's going to be tough this year in the NFCE. I think you guys have leveled the playing field. Especially if healthy. |

I didn't meet one of their fans until after the year 2000. Where did these fans come from all of a sudden? |

:nono:
I might not agree on much with a cowboy fan but that is the funniest thing in the world...the idea the giants might repeat..I just dont think they have the goods to make another magical run this season. Take away that run in the playoffs and they are just a mediocre team. As for the cowboys....i think everything that needs to be said has been said...the debate could go on for days....but ill just go with the last time we played....we needed a win and got it. say what you want about the starters didnt play the whole game that doesnt really matter....the starters were pulled once the game was out of reach. I cant wait to renew the BEST rivalry in all the NFL this season. |
