RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Not too serious but still, all these injuries are getting a little ridiculous

Oh boy, what is next?

Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I dunno, these mild injuries happen to everyone in training camp. Every day, every team is going to add someone new to the list of guys in the training room. Outside of Monty and Landry, our starters have stayed off the injury report since the first day, which is exactly what we need.
Those season ending camp injuries are the ones that get ya, and since the first day, we've avoided them. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Maybe I'm holding on to the past, but the only injury news that would concern me is among the offensive line.

He sprained his knee this morning, and apparently the severity is unknown. But it can't be too mild if he needs surgery right away tomorrow. He will miss "at least" 2 to 3 weeks. This isn't good. Thankfully Fletcher is durable, but Blades is his backup and also turning into a force on special teams. Now he's most likely done for close to if not all of the rest of camp. This isn't a huge deal, but it's not minor either, IMO. I mentioned this in the Devin Thomas injury thread- I'm not looking for someone to blame, but given the consistent rash of injuries we seem to endure all the time in recent years, I do think it would be prudent to evaluate Bubba Tyer and his staff with a fine tooth comb. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Please explain to me the association between Bubba Tyer and his staff to these injuries. Because I see no relationship whatsoever. Injuries are part of the game. Healing of these injuries is an outcome that the training staff can be evaluated on--not the prevention of injuries...

Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
well, since our LB WAS blades, it's probably time to go out and get a veteran or two to give us what godfrey gave us... they're still available, and cheap.

Did Godfrey retire? If so, then I guess the best choice would be either Takeo Spikes or Rosevelt Colvin? |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Colvin is a Texan now, but Spikes is still on the market.

I hear you, but I'm starting to feel better about the O-line. JLC and others have been saying very, very positive things about Rinehart, who can play guard and tackle. Additionally, we re-signed Fabini and he played well enough at RG last season. So, we have decent depth at both guard positions. Additionally, Kendall appears to be our backup center and, with Rinehart in the fold, we shouldn't struggle too much if Rabach goes down. Finally, Heyer can play both tackle positions. While I'm not 100% sold on Heyer ever becoming a solid starter, he does alright if a RB, FB, or TE stays in to chip his man. The only area that really concerns me is our LB corps. We don't have any salty, backup vets at LB. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Where did Lemar Marshall go? Is Godfrey signed? Not a big fan of Spikes.
|
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I think Godfrey followed GW to Jacksonville, along with Prioleau.
Sounds like Blades will be OK for the season, but this is what I've been saying all offseason, LB is our thinnest position. We needed another reliable guy BEFORE Blades got hurt. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I think Godfrey is actually a free agent.

wow. first person i've seen/heard mention marshall other than myself. we cut him last summer. he signed with the bengals and broke his arm, i think, early in the year. bengals but him on ir, released him after season and he hasn't signed with anyone yet (as far as i know). we need to go get him back. never should've cut him. he plays all 3 spots! no, godfrey is not signed either, but we can wait until after week one to get him. he'll still be around and we can pay him bottom dollar at that point. and i think we should work out takeo, talk to him and see if he can play a role for us. i'm sure he could. the only question, to me, would be his price tag. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I REALLY hope that all the injury BS is an omen for an incredibly healthy, and successful regular season (for the few that are yet un-injured).
It's just fates way of giving us ample time to deal with the injuries during camp, rather than try to react and fill in during the regular season? OK..............good! |

It's unreasonable to expect to have starter quality backups at each spot, but we have guys w/starting experience - Wade, Fabini & Heyer. LB depth was an issue before the draft & MW & Rocky are both coming off injuries. Unless they really think the undrafted guys can make the team, I would think they'd at least take a long look at some vets out there. Would love to see Lemar Marshall return, but who knows how he's recovered from his torn achilles (I think that's what he had)? |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I didn't know Marshall had a torn achilles. I also heard he broke his arm. We should have never cut him. I thought he was solid. If he's available (and he never tore his achilles), we need to get him back ASAP. Next thing we know, they'll stick Jason Taylor at linebacker (which he could play) but I want to see him as an end.

Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
Blades is having an athroscopy. Nothing serious. 2-3 weeks rest.
Of course, it does hurt his chances in his depth chart battle with Khary Campbell, but I think we'll see a lot of Blades on the field this year...he showed some talent last year. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
I'd definitely take Godfrey back over Marshall. Godfrey is much more solid vs. the run.

Godfrey is certainly better at stuffing the run than Marshall, but, IMO, Marshall is better in pass coverage. I personally thought Marshall was a good, versatile linebacker. Additionally, Marshall is familiar with the scheme. I'd be quite happy if we signed him for depth. |
Re: RI: Blades to Have Knee Surgery
LB depth needs to be addressed big time. Rocky has bad knees and is coming off an ACL tear, Marcus is injured a lot, HB had surgery today, K.Campbell has been around a while and never broken through on anything but special team, so that leaves a 32 year old Fletcher as our only truly reliable staple at this point. This makes me pretty nervous.
Godfrey, Marshall, Spikes, whoever. Sign someone. |
