Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Shouldn't Sean Taylor be considered one of the most feared tacklers in NFL history?
I was watching the top ten most feared tacklers on the NFL Network and they had some pretty hard hitters on that list. Now the way I see it, Taylor should be on that list. A short career may keep you out of the HOF, but it damn sure doesn't keep you from being feared. I just don't think that the NFL celebrates his extraordinary talent, if only in NFL films. When I say celebrate, they don't have to talk about him every game, but I think NFL films should at least show some of the unhuman like plays he did make in his short time here. What better way to show kids in the future the diamond in the rough that the NFL once had. I don't think that people really know how big, strong and fast that this guy was. AND HE WAS STILL LEARNING! The only way to see a safety like that was to create him on Madden. If talent was a gemstone, Taylor's would surely be on display at a heavily guarded museum for all to see. We may be old, the next time we see a player like that come along again. He should be on that list! |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Sean Taylor was on his way to being the most feared tackler in the history of the NFL. Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So yes I agree with this thread completely.
|
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Possible it was an old show, if not it's a travesty.
|
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
You won't get a lot of disagreement on this site. Personally, I think Sean is one of those players whose stature and legend will only grow with time. Kind of like Gale Sayers, who we all now forget only played a couple of seasons.
|
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Sean had made his name known to Skins fans very quickly after he started playing. Other people where just starting to take notice unless you where a Giants, Dallas, Eagles fan or player who had to face him a couple of times a year. The other 28 teams players and fans did not really get a chance to see what we did every Sunday. Unless you watched the Pro Bowl.

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Here was the list, looking over the entire history of the league I'd say it's a pretty tough list to crack for a guy who had a short career. And when Lott is only #4 you know it's a hard hitting list:
John Lynch #10 Steve Atwater #9 Jack Lambert #8 Ray Lewis #7 Jack Tatum #6 Hardy Brown #5 Ronnie Lott #4 Lawrence Taylor #3 "Night Train" Lane #2 Dick Butkus #1 |

Taylor simply didnt play long enough. everyone on that list had nice, long careers |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
I agree with someone else that Sean's legend will grow with time, but more so among Redskins fans. I think he will ultimately have his place among NFL safeties, not sure how high on the list though.
As far as Lambert goes, I think he was one of the most intimidating, but not one of the hardest hitting. There's a difference. Lambert was a very intense player though. |

Lewis should be on that list. Lewis is a big hitter, an elite LB, and a future HoFer, but he's not as big of a hitter as those others. ST was a bigger hitter than Lewis. |

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
This list is the most feared tackler not hitter, right?
I don't want to start another Lavar theme, but for a couple of years he was a pretty fierce hitter as well. Not tackler, hitter, and there is a difference. ST wasn't the best tackler in the world, he was a hitter. |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Possible it was an old show, if not it's a travesty.
I'm not saying it's a travesty, but I just hope people can enjoy such a rare talent for years to come.
Look at Bo Jackson. Had he kept playing, he would have set the rushing record so high that Emmitt Smith would have had to play 25 years to break it. These two guys, along with players like Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Deion Sanders, a well coached Mike Vick and etc., all are cut from a different talent cloth. |

Do you remember a couple of years ago in Dallas when late in the fourth quarter, when the Cowboys needed a first down to keep an important drive going and it was either Bledsoe or Testeverde that threw that pass to #84 Patrick Crayton. It look like he caught it, then all of a sudden, you see this burgundy blurr come flying into the screen and WHAM! the ball goes flying back the opposite way. That was the hardest hit that I could remember seeing in years, if not ever. Craytons body bent like a crashdummy. I feared for his life, but he was alright. Plus he is the only player that I have ever seen make T.O. rearrange the way he runs routes...........YA FEEL ME!! I may be wrong, but he is the only player that I've seen knock the hell out of Marion Barber....BY HISELF! I've seen MB truck LBs. |

Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
If Sean would've got a chance to play ten more seasons, he easily would've went down as one of the best, if not the best, safety the NFL has ever seen. Even in Sean's short
3 1/2 season career he had more ferocious tackles and hits than half the people on that list, and if he went on to have a 13+ season career at the end of it I don't think anybody would even have to hesitate to tell you that Sean Taylor was the most feared player in the history of the NFL. |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
without a doubt he should be on the list. hes at the top of mine. the man threw his body around sideline to sideline. he was wreckless and just had that swagger that intimidated ppl in itself, as if his head busting hits werent enough. LaRon has learned a few things from sean, you can tell, that swagger and attitude is one. I like to look at LaRon as Sean's protege so to speak.

All it takes is a year of film. Any questions? Just ask any Offensive players/coaches around the league. |

Not to be funny or anything, but remember when Dallas beat the Skins in Dallas on that long pass from Testeverde to Crayton down the sidelines for the winning touchdown, with like 30 seconds in the game?
Well if you go back and look at it, ST was almost at the line of scrimmage when the play started, but when Crayton caught that ball, he almost got back there in time. Now at first, I didn't think about it too much until I watched the highlights of that game later on. I thought to myself............wait.......wait a minute! This guy was down too far to be near Crayton after he caught the ball. I would go back and check it out again and again, and I'm telling you, it will blow your mind. He was a freak of nature. |

WRONG. He was great, and he would have continued to break records, but he was killed and couldn't prove it to people like you. |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
Classy thread, GINeric. Sean Taylor coulda, woulda and definitely SHOULDA gone down as the greatest player in Redskins history. I loved watching the guy play and he had yet to reach his full potential! Hopefully the Skins will continue the "Warpath 21" march they started after his tragic death last season. Stay motivated and play every down for Sean!!

Dude S.T. had fully grown into his potential during the '07 season. Everybody could see it, he didn't get beat once, he had 5 picks in 7 games, and he was playing like everyone envisioned he would when we first drafted him. If he had played like that the entire year I have no doubts he would've been recognized as one of the best safeties in the NFL, similar to the way Ed Reed was in '04. Unfortunately that didn't and won't happen, so the point is basically moot. |

He was the hardest hitting...............you ready for this.............................
DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE GAME!!! PERIOD!!! BE IT TACKLING OR HITTING, whatever you want to call it. When he struck your a$$, it was hard as hell. He changed the game in just 3 in a half years. I love T.O. because of his talent and because he plays for the Cowboys, but I have never in his whole career, seen him play as cautious as he did when he played against the Skins. I know you had a great on your team named L. Taylor, much respect. But this dude was your best player's size and probably faster than any WR in your teams history. I am not a genius when it comes to physics, but when you have a guy that weighs 235 to 240 that runs a 4.3, 4,4 WITH RECKLESS ABANDONMENT, that to me spells one of the hardest hits. I bet you Plaxico would consider him one of the most feared tacklers in NFL history. Try thinking outside the box. I know a lot about football Homey, and I know that there has never been NOBODY like him at that position. Tell me this. How many safeties have you ever seen cover the WHOLE defensive backfield BY HIMSELF? You don't believe me, just look at one of those crazy setups that GW designed for the Skins when ST was back there alone. Go ahead, it's on film. |

Can you honestly tell me that he couldn't be put on the NFL's Most Feared Tacklers/Hitters List. This is all I'm questioning. Nothing about the HOF, All-Time greatest players, none of that. Just One of the Most Feared Tacklers/Hitters. It doesn't take a long career to establish that, just a few concussions on the offensive players behalf. |
Re: Shouldn't Sean Taylor.............
There was also a dozen guys on the show who "just missed" and at the least Sean should've been on there. I like NFLN's top ten shows because they focus on just one aspect of the game. As for feared tacklers, he had to play at a time when most of Lambert, Butkus and Night Train's hits would gotten him ejected.
When Ray Lewis was bragging about lighting up Marshall Faulk in the ProBowl I wanted to at least see the greatest hit in ProBowl history.... #21 obliterating Moorman. |
