Favre to the Jets

Re: Favre to the Jets
Thank god this garbage is finally over....
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
Well, I'm not really buying into the notion that Favre makes NY an instant contender. The Jets lack a dominant defense to begin with.
That said, I think it sullies the legend. He'll go out w/ a mediocre team instead of the overachieving Pack. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Yay!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
Thank god all of this BS is done though. Maybe the sports world will get halfway back to normal.....
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
Ouch...the Jets...that's not a good scenario for him. He'll have a miserable season, but hey at least this is over.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
The AFC is loaded. Even with Farve there could be 9-10 teams in the AFC that are better than the Jets. The Jets are trying to bring in all these old guys and that crap never ever works. Farve should just hang it up.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
It was funny watching Paolantonio say how there was no question Favre was going to Tampa, then 45 mins later I'm watching him backtrack and say all along he was privy to phone calls, etc that showed the Jets agressiveness... HA! He was too busy drooling over Donovan McNabb posters to get his stories straight.
Anyway, big move for the Jets. Brady and Favre in the same divsion?? Wow! Eat that Parcells. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Any chance this isn't over? Hate to keep this thing going, but isn't it possible that Jets send Favre to Minnesota?
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
The Jets!?!?! How lame. He might as well have been traded to a CFL team.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
Madden cover? Change to Jets? Favre retires? Hmmmmmmm... New Topic?
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
What are we talking about? Are we talking about the Jets or the Fins cause it sure sounds like you guys are talking about the Fins. Granted the Jets aren't going to win their devision but this is a team that won 10 games 2 years ago and were decimated by injuries and poor QB play last year. With Favre I expect them to be competitive.
|
Re: Favre to the Jets
This just in, the New York Jets to officially change name to the New York Brett's...
In a related story, Favre samples New York style Mozzarella cheese and comments that after a long, fulfilling career of eating Wisconsin Cheddar, he welcomes the challenge of tackling the stringy local NYC variety. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
Farve vs Brady twice a year? John Madden's gonna go nuts. Plus we get to see him up close in a few weeks.
Man I wonder if the Bears will make a play for Pennington, but given Chicago's windy climate, might not be the best idea, then again Pennington did play in Giants Stadium. |

Charlie Casserly mentioned something like a clause in the trade contract that prohibits the trading partner from doing just that (trading the player back into the division). If Charlie Casserly is smart enough to think about that, then the Packers organization (while not much more intelligent) is smart enough to think of that as well. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
A question, could they now turn around and trade him to the Vikes?

I just saw on the NFL Network that the Packers made sure the Jets wouldnt trade him to the Vikes by putting in the contract that if he was to be traded, The Jets would have to give the Packers three 1st round picks so i don't think it'll happen... |

Re: Favre to the Jets
The Jets are looking like the skins of 2000, though not nearly as good as that team was (which was pretty good when they were on, just not consistent). Maybe Brett will go out like Montana, who had took KC to the afc championship w/Marcus Allen, but my feeling is that the jets are in for a rough ride. There will be good moments for Farve & all tv coverage will show up jumping up & down, but in the end I don't see him taking them to the playoffs.

Re: Favre to the Jets
Good move for the Jets but I don't see how this is a good move for Favre. Offensively the Jets have few weapons, nothing near what Favre had to work with last year in Green Bay. I get wanting to come back to a team that was a play away from the Superbowl but to come back to a team that was 4-12? Don't get it at all.

Plus he's going to a team that doesn't run the west coast offense. It's going to be a big adjustment for him. The Jets seem like a very odd fit. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
You know what just occured to me? Favre is on the cover of Madden this year. And everyone knows the "Madden Curse".
What if after ALL OF THIS turmoil and stuff, Favre sustains a season-ending injury? |

I wonder if this is about fit or selling tickets? Know they Giants and Jets are getting a new stadium sometime soon. Packers now have Favre out of the NFC, chances of both teams meeting in the Super Bowl is very rare. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
so, if this turns out to be a colossal failure, is there any chance ol' brett humbly and quietly disappears into obscurity?

Good point. Wonder how he will handle the NY media if things do start to go south. This isn't Green Bay. Brett is now under the microscope in the Big Apple. Heard someone say that Brett seems to suffering from depression. He is a very needy person. |

Re: Favre to the Jets
I don't care for the drama but the guy has a right to do what he loves as long as someone is willing to hire him. He doesn't owe anyone anything. Even if he loses every game, at least he is playing. Once he actually is totally, finally done; he won't have to tell himself "I could've played a few more years." I'm sure he doesn't want that kind of regret...

I agree. I'm tired of the drama too but if the guy wants to keep playing go for it. I think it's a shame things went down the way they did, but it is what it is. |

You know, I wonder pretty often what it would have been like if we didn't have the 24/7 media coverage for sports. If we didn't hang on every trade rumor, would this really been that big of a deal? I really blame the Packers in all of this, they really could have just stopped trying to drive up the price, making it look like they were trying to trade Favre, meanwhile, making a half hearted attempt. They should have just done this thing 2 weeks ago, somewhat under the radar and been done with it, but instead they let it get to this point. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
I'm not sure who's to blame, seems like both parties have to share it. I think Favre should have come out right off the bat and forced the Packers hand to make a decision by signing his reinstatement papers rather than waiting... but I think he really wanted to work it out with them and things just went sour the longer it dragged out.
The drama is far from over though. Favre is going to be a huge story all season long. And anything Rodgers does is also going to be under a microscope. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
B-B-B-Bretty & the Jets...
I sure hope the Packers suck this year. I love turmoil that happens to other teams. I think Favre would have definitely preferred the Bucs though. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
"I heard someone today saying that this might not be such a done deal and that the NYJ are offering a bigger deal for Brett."
Well I guess you can say you heard it here first in the other Jet Farve to Tampa thread. I guess my close source was correct. |
Re: Favre to the Jets
I'm just glad it's over.. Let's move on to the rest of the league now ESPN & NFL-N..

Prepare to see constant updates of him arriving in NY, his first presser there, his first practice, etc. It's far from over. |

This story is not over at all and will last all year. First off Brett is not in the Jet's camp yet and when he does show up it will be media day. Then we will have the comparison all year on how Brett and the Jets are doing as compared to Arron and GB. Another thing is that the jets first game is against Miami which could be a tough game depending on how the Tuna has Miami going. They then face the Pats and the Chargers on the road. So if they loose to Miami there'e a good chance that the Jets start off 0 and 3. What will be Bretts feelings then? |

Instead of Broadway, we can say Favreway.
