Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
This was discussed in another thread but it was a bit off-topic. I was curious, so I did a little digging and here's my list of Cowboys with run-ins with the law and drug suspensions (feel free to add if I left anyone out LOL):
Michael Irvin: need I say more, multiple incidents Nate Newton: "That 175 lbs. of weed isn't mine" Leon Lett: Multiple drug suspensions Shante Carver: Alcohol abuse suspension Clayton Holmes: Drug suspension Quincy Carter: Released due to drug related issues Bob Hayes: After retirement, distribution of cocaine Larry Bethea: Convicted of grand larceny for theft of $ 64K....from his own mother. Hollywood Henderson: While at Dallas Landry sent him to rehab. After retirement, crack, sexual assualt on teenage girls. Rafael Septien: Aggravated child molestation Dwayne Goodrich: Vehicular Manslaughter Lance Rentzel: 1970, exposing himself to a 10 yr. old girl. Pacman Jones: while his issues weren't done while a Cowboy, Jerry Jones didn't have to actively pursue him or give him a contract. Let's not forget the 1983 "South America's" team drug investigation and the 1996 Training Camp "Party House". I'll be real interested to see a response other than Dexter Manley's well documented issues. For the most part the Skins have kept a pretty clean house. **************** Here's a few jokes, in the same theme that I thought were funny: How do you get a Cowboy to stand up? Say "Will the defendant please rise." Four Cowboys are traveling down the road. Who is driving? The police officer! What does the operator say when a person calls 911 in Dallas? LOL. This is too funny. A nice break from the Favre talk.

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
Yeah they are pretty screwed up ain't they. LOL

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
Most teams, especially during the 80's, had their share of substance abusers, most with a special fondness for doing blow. The Redskins, unfortunately, have been no exception. Here are some cokeheads, roid freaks and a homicidal creep:
Pro-Bowl Safety: Tony Peters Tony Peters Indicted - Free Preview - The New York Times Starting Cornerback - Barry Willburn FALL FROM GRACE :: The Memphis Flyer :: Sports News :: Sports & Activities Super Bowl Hero - Timmy Smith Ex-NFL star Timmy Smith pleads guilty in drug case - Boston.com Sack Master - Coy Bacon Bacon was Bengals' sackmaster Tight End/H-Back - Frank Wycheck PRO FOOTBALL; Redskin Player Suspended for Steroid Use - New York Times DB - Raphael Cherry Honolulu Star-Bulletin Sports |
Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
This thread is treading on dangerous ground. As Warren85Ellard has noted, the Redskins weren't exactly choir boys back in the day (granted cocaine use was much more common back then, from what I understand)

Vs the boyz i think we're on the shorter end of the drug use spectrum. |

I didn't want to cause a major issue with this so if you want to shut it, please do.

Every team has their share of problems.

Sorry man. I didn't mean to rain on the parade. I enjoyed reading your post. I'd like to know more about South America's Team of 1983. As noted, the Redskins have had their share of guys that didn't walk the straight and narrow, but every team has. The Cowboys, however, seem to take the coke (sorry). |

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
We can say what we want about the players Dallas has playing or played for them but the bottom line is we still have to beat them on the field no matter what they do off the field. Does it really make us look any better because our clean players have a hard time beating their bottom dwellers.

He's not running a choir and I wish we'd take some more chances on some guys. Now I'm not saying we take Chris Henry or Adam Jones. To me those are real bad guys. But so far TO has been a solid teammate and as far as I know he's not breaking any laws. I think he's learned from his mistakes at Philly and SF. And Tank Johnson has also been solid. Look at Randy Moss? We could've made a run at him. The bottom line is every team has guys that have had run ins with the law. It's just that Dallas probably has more than anyone else. |
Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
Sure, every team does have their idiots and criminals, but it's not a secret that Dallas continually signs and pays players with very bad criminal records. They seem to attract them.
Dallas' list will always be longer than any other team's. Cincy has been trying to rival them, but has a long way to go to catch up. Washington on the other hand has had a very good track record with the types of players and people they sign. Maybe it has been influenced by Joe Gibbs and the importance he has placed on character, but still today, the team is full of people who I am proud to call Redskins. If the HOF ceremony didn't remind you of some of the great human beings who have worn burgundy and gold, you're blind. |

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
We're actually pretty even when it comes to the number of arrests each team has had. The Cowboys just have a few more felonies than us.

Better watch it Buster, you're treading on dangerous ground. Don't stir up the Cowboys fans. ;) This is an interesting list I came across. It lists player arrests since 2000 and you can sort it by team. Cincinnati ... Um, they win. I'd be afraid to walk into the locker room.

I here the coaches leave their wallets and valuables locked up in a safe when they are at team practice. |

Except for the 2 murders. Sorry, manslaughter from a hit-and-run. Forgot about Goodrich. |
Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
This is a little like the pot calling the kettle black. For if you review the link that Lady Brave provided you will see that the Redskins have more arrests since 2000 then the Cowboys.

I'm not really taking Cash's No Operators License charge into consideration. I question whether he was actually arrested or simply cited by the officer. Charges that typically result in the imposition of a fine are pretty insignificant. It's neither here nor there. We're still even for the most part. We had eight, you had seven. You guys still have more felonies though. :) |
Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
Odd how we forgot Sean Taylor's woes (RIP). I love to take a shot at the Cowpatties, but we're not exactly clean.
By the way, you forgot another joke: "Did you guys hear about the new Cowboys stadium? It's all dirt." "They smoked all the grass, and snorted all the lines." |
Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
A guy walks into a Dayton bar with a Rotweiler by his side. The dog is wearing a Washington Redskins jersey and helmet, and is festooned with Redskins pom pons. The bartender says, "Hey! No pets are allowed in here! You'll have to leave!"
The guy begs him: "Look, I'm desperate. We're both big fans, the TV is broken, and this is the only place around where we can see the game!" After securing a promise that the dog will behave, and warning him that he and the dog will be thrown out if there's any trouble, the bartender relents and allows them to stay in the bar and watch the game. The big game begins with the Redskins receiving the kickoff. They march down field, get stopped at about the 30, and kick a field goal. With that the dog jumps up on the bar, and begins walking up and down the bar giving high-fives to everyone. The bartender says, "Wow, that is the most amazing thing I've ever seen! What does the dog do if the Redskins score a touchdown?" The owner replies, "I don't know, I've only had him for 4 years." |

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
How do you keep a Washington Redskin out of your front yard?
Paint a goal line across it. What's the difference between the Washington Redskins and O.J. Simpson? At least O.J. had a defense. What does the Redskins and Billy Graham have in common? Each can make 90,000 people scream "Jesus Christ". |

Re: Cowboys, the Law, & Drugs
Cowboys fans hated TO...until TO joined thier team. You should see the dallas fans at camp light up like a fat kid at dunkin donuts when TO walks out. Those people are on thier knees for this guy and that tool box Tony Romo.
It was great seeing TO and the fans cry last year and I look forward to it again when they dont make the playoffs this year. |
