Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Rogers May Play; Rocky's Road; Trash-Talkfest - Redskins Insider
Rogers' rehab seems to be flying under the radar. But this is pretty huge news I think that he could be playing several weeks (if not months) before anyone thought just a few weeks ago. But I don't know if it's good news. On the one hand it is because despite what some may say he's not a terrible DB. Yes his dropped INTs are infuriating, still he's physical, a solid tackler, strong in man coverage, puts himself in position to make plays and keeps offenses somewhat honest. Plus, Leigh Torrence is much preferred at the 4th CB spot than the nickel. On the other hand, are we rushing him back? My guess is the coaches wouldn't put him out there unles they were 100% sure he was healthy, and really it's impossible to know if he's fully ready until he gets out there in a full game situation. Still, I am a little nervous about it. What sayest thou? |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I would keep Rogers , Rocky and E. James out of preseason games and work them in as the season starts . Lets face it , most starters get limited time on the field during the preseason and I doubt we can't win without them playing every down in September .

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I'm definitely excited to possibly have Carlos back so soon. I think if possible they should play him for a series, but thats about it.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
It would be huge to have Carlos by week 1. Whatever our docs do, don't put this guy in any position to re-aggravate the injury.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I agree it's great that he's feeling this good so soon. I just hope there taking things really slow so that the training staff knows he's ready before they risk anything.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
If he's medically cleared let him play.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Yeah, I'd be spooked about it too. Imagine how Carlos feels with all the cuts, plants, shifts, twists, and turns he has to make just on one play? I'd be nervous as hell, especially when it's in a game that doesn't really matter.
We have to find out about him sooner or later though. It would suck if all he needed were just two more weeks to be thoroughly healed without any question and he was rushed back onto the field. Like Matty said though, if he's medically cleared to play, then he's medically cleared. |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
When he's cleared to go, turn him lose. Just caught the redskin pm news, they interviewed Rodgers he said he hoped to play maybe next week against Carolina.
He mentioned nothing about playing time for the jets game. Just a guess but after watching the interview with Rodgers I would think Carolina will be his first action, best case scenario. |

What sayest thou?
The lack of physical play of a corner relative to other positions on the field make me feel like while his explosiveness might need more time to return to full potential, there's no harm in getting him out there for a few downs as a measuring stick to where he's at right now. We really do need him to be on the field for us. I think we will ease him in as the nickel back early in the season, but if we are going to be a playoff team, Rogers is going to have to make a solid contribution. |

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
My reflex is to say ease him back- It's only been about 9 1/2-10 months since a very severe injury, and he plays a position where stop and go speed and cutting are so vital... I'd say let him play a little in the last, or maybe the last 2 preseason games just so he's used to game speed... Then again, maybe he's just one of those freakish healers. Remember when Braylon Edwards tore his ACL a few years ago and was back to full speed after like 7 months? I'm hoping that's the situation with Carlos. We're definitely better with him.

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
He needs to build some confidence in his knee.
I've heard that the hardest part about recovering from major knee surgery is believing you can make the same cuts as before. He needs to get out there and test it. I've been hard on the guy. In his rookie year, Springs came out and said that Rogers doesn't take advice from veterans and doesn't learn from his mistakes. I saw an interview with Rogers a few months ago and he said that he can no longer rely solely on his athletic ability, He had to be fundamentally sound. I still don't think he fully gets it but if he gets all his speed and quickness back and becomes fundamentally sound, He could have a monster year. |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
This is a very important year for Rogers. Regardless of what happened in the preseason, I'm stoked that he'll be on the field for Week One.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I'm a little concerned, I don't want them to be putting him back in unless he's 100% confident that he's absolutely ready. He might be a fast healer but I just don't want to risk him getting reinjured too soon. If he's back by week one then great, I still say he along with Rocky should sit out another week though.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I heard back in February that Rogers was progressing well ahead of schedule, and McIntosh was the one who hit a setback, but I was cautious to buy the report because Rogers' injury was so much worse.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
after last season the loss of these 2 was one of those fears everyone had for 08, would they be able to come back & play as well as they did before? It seems that they're on course to do so, definitely good news no matter how much they play in the preseason.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I guess we just have to trust the coaches and trainers that he's healthy enough to consider giving him some playing time this soon. I'm a big believer in Carlos and I'm hopeful he comes back at full strength. We definitely need him healthy.
HAIL!! |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Another player that is do or die this year. He needs to prove his worth or we need to cut him loose.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
If he says he is ready and the doc says he is ready, let him play for a series to 2.
|
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Well its not like he is going to step onto the field for the first time this season. I heard several weeks ago he was at practice and doing drills. He was also in covering some guys in practice so they have been testing his knee a little at a time. He did say several weeks ago after running some playes that his knee was feeling fine and he has not expereinced any swelling or disconfort in his knee.

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
if the doctors say its OK, lets get him on the field, and find out what he can do. he can just as easily get hurt at practice. somewhere along the line, the skins are going to have to figure out what his role with the team will be

Ugh.. I find myself dreading watching him on the field again... |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
hessy, tell me how you really feel:)

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
I like the way Rogers supports the run and before his injury I thought he was coming on. Even his bad hands seemed reborn. He is an important piece to our success but no need to rush him.

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Redskins Staying Cautious With Rogers
By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com August 13, 2008 On Tuesday, Greg Blache hinted that Carlos Rogers might finally be healthy enough to play in a preseason game. "He is in pretty good shape," Blache said. "Keep your eyes peeled on him. You might see him on the field." Rogers is coming back from a knee ligament injury suffered last season. In recent weeks, he has increased his practice workload, participating in all of the individual drills and most 11-on-11 work. Despite the hint of optimism from Blache, Rogers remains a question mark for Saturday's preseason game against the New York Jets. The game is played at the Meadowlands, which has a FieldTurf surface. FieldTurf is a synthetic turf field that has a mixture of rubber and sand underneath it. It is regarded as a more safe playing surface. But Rogers has worked primarily on grass fields since returning from his injury. Carlos Rogers (Greg Fiume Photo) Coaches may not want Rogers to test his surgically repaired knee for the first time on an artificial surface. "I'm preparing like I'm going to play, but I'm not sure if they're going to let me go," Rogers said. "If I do, it'll probably be for a series or two. Hopefully I can get out there. "But it's a different surface, so I don't know if they really want to let me out there." Added Jim Zorn: "If Carlos does get in, it will just be for a couple of plays. I'd like to wait. I'm not ruling him out, but it may be a pre-game [decision] where we get him ready at pre-game and then we shut him down when the game starts." It's more likely that Rogers will play in the Aug. 23 preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers play at Bank of America Stadium, which has a grass surface. It's remarkable that Rogers is even being considered to play in preseason, given the severity of his knee ligament injury. Some thought the 6-0, 194-pound cornerback might open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Rogers rehabbed all offseason and picked up the practice pace early in training camp. Blache admitted it was hard to watch Rogers take a hit the first time he returned to practice. "The first time he went down, I remember gasping," Blache said. "But he bounced right back up. And each time he goes down, he comes right back up. You don't worry about him anymore. He's ready." |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday

Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Zorn said look quick......
I'm really glad Rocky and Rodgers are ready to go. They are both ahead of schedule, I hope this story has a nice start and finish. These two must be elite healers..... |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Good to see them getting healthy. I hope we don't see TOO much of them this game, though. I'd wait until the next preseason game before they get some real action in.
I guess I'm just overly cautious about guys in the preseason, but I don't like seeing the starters for too long. |
Re: Rogers Might Play on Saturday
Yeah I don't think they'll play more than a series in Saturday's game, their workload will increase in later preseason games though.
