Boldin

Boldin is even unhappier. Is it too late for a team to trade for him and he still be productive for a new team? If so, who?

Boldin has 'no relationship' with Cardinals coach Whisenhunt

I know it's not possible for us to get him under the cap (though I'd be happy getting rid of either rookie wr and a future 3rd rounder for him) but would any team be willing to bring him now or only if there is a major injury.

Trade Colt and M. Mason (our future hall of famers) for him. That way we can run those 6-7 WR sets that Spurrier dreamed of.

Toss in Rob "the sack master" Jackson too just to sweeten the pot.

Well, they paid T.O. a few years ago. And they haven't had a real receiving threat since. If he goes anywhere, my money is on Philly.

Yeah, Arizona slapped him in the face offering him half of what Fitz makes. I think he's going to Philly too, which upsets me greatly.

Re: Boldin

Sure the Eagles need a WR, but so do half the teams in the NFL. Among the list with the Eagles is also, JETS, Cowboys, Dolphins, Colts, Titans, Broncos, Vikings and Falcons. My guess is Jets or Vikings and possibly Bucs. All seem to have some cash and willing to spend it on NOW! No way he ends up a Redskin. We need other positions before star WR at this point.

Finally a voice of reason.
Boldin can kick and scream for a trade all he wants. But like dblanch66 said, the fact is Boldin is under contract with Arizona until 2010.

Boldin can kick and scream for a trade all he wants, but unless the Cardinals actually proceed forward and try and trade him, this thread is moot. Chad Johnson "demanded" a trade while still under contract, where is he todaY?

Cardinals will not trade Boldin, no matter how much Boldin wants to be traded.

And whoever said "Trade and sign him for vet minimum" just a reminder that when you trade to acquire a player, you also acquire his CURRENT contract deal. And he is in the middle of a 22 3/4 milion dollar extension now. He is making 4 million a year right now, and wants more.

Ruhskins 08-20-2008 08:55 AM

Re: Boldin

This thread would have made sense before draft, but not now. For all of you people that are criticizing the new WRs (see the Devin Thomas thread), the Redskins would have needed to trade for a player like Boldin or Chad Johnson to get a wideout that can contribute right away. Honestly, at this point I don't think the team will and/or can get a veteran of this caliber. If the team were to sign anyone at this point, it would be to fill some back up spots, but that's it.

Re: Boldin

My guess is philly. They need a #1 receiver and they get to trade Lito Sheppard which they have wanted to do the whole offseason.

Let's imagine that Boldin holds out, and doesn't play, until 2011. Would that be a good situation for AZ? They surely wouldn't be able to trade him for anything of value at that time.

It's all about return on investment, and if Boldin isn't playing, AZ has got to be considering their options -- even if they say they aren't. Just because Boldin is under contract doesn't mean AZ won't trade him. If he's not on the field, I guarantee AZ will look at possible trade scenarios (if they haven't already).

P.S.: the vet min thing was a joke (I think)

Okay there is a fine line between "imagine" and "dream" and I think you just crossed it.

Holding out means millions in fines and Boldin does not get paid.

Now I ask you what is the probabilty that Boldin leaves 12 million dollars sitting on the table?

Can't help but think of ALL the players that have said "I'll never play another down for ________ (fill in the team name here).

Last year off-season Lance Briggs said it "I'll never play another down for the Bears". Then. when the holdout starting costing him money in fines and his paycheck, who was the first one in the locker room when camp opened? Briggs, and now he "loves the Bears".

Chad Johnson this past spring. "I'll never play another down for the Bengals" yet when it was HIS paycheck that was going to be affected, he is in camp, on time and LOVES his team.

I could go on and on with lists of players that so-called "hold out" and only 3 come to mind that ACTUALLY did it, or are doing it. One was Emmit Smith who held out through camp and the first 2 weeks of the regular season. When the Cowboys started the season 0-2, they offered Smith his new contract.

And then there is Steven Jackson who has stuck to his guns in St Louis this year and there is still no resolution.

And lastly Jason Peters in Buffalo this year, again sticking to his guns and still no resolution

But with regard to Jackson and Peters, I will bet they have a huge change of stance once week 1 of the regular season starts and they do not get that weekly game check.

Just saying that the probabilty of Boldin holding out for 2 years is extremely LOW. And it borders on the ludicrous.

GhettoDogAllStars 08-20-2008 11:21 AM

Re: Boldin

I seem to remember somebody holding out until the 11th week of the season in recent years. I forget the name, but I know it happened.

Anyways, I agree that Boldin is probably bluffing. But, you said, "Cardinals will not trade Boldin, no matter how much Boldin wants to be traded." Well, if his desire to be traded exceeds his desire to get paid, then he holds almost all the cards -- all he has to do is holdout into the regular season and AZ will make a move.

Re: Boldin

NFL radio mentioned they wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles throw Lito Shepard and a 1st round pick for Boldin. That would be a hard trade for the Cards to turn down. A very good CB and a first round pick for a disgruntled player that even if he played his contract out, chances are you couldn't fit him under the cap.

He's not going anywhere.
The headcoach will be fired at the end of the year.
