Upcoming Cuts
All rosters must be cut down to 75 players on Tuesday 8/26. Then on Saturday 8/30 all rosters must be cut down to the final 53. So who do you guys think are going to be the first five axed on Tuesday?
I am going to go with: WR Horace Gant CB Cedrick Holt LB David Holloway DE Dorian Smith S Patrick Ghee |

Well looks like we're starting early this year. Vernon Fox, Babtunde Oshinowo, and Dorian Smith were just released. Two more to go by Tuesday. Hey at least I got one right so far. |

Re: Upcoming Cuts
Wow, Vernon Fox is already gone. That say a lot about Kareem Moore and Chris Horton, who have shown that they belong. Considering that we lost 47-3, I thought Moore had a pretty good game. While he did take a bad angle on Stewart's run, I'll assume that he made that mistake because he's used to chasing down college running backs at Nichols St, who probably weren't as fast. He will learn. Last night sucked, I know, but our late round picks have been damn good.

who do you like Moore (pun intended) Kareem or Horton? |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
I love Moore. Although he is small he makes up for it with hits. He also grabbed a pick. Horton is a true strong safety, who makes big hits but isn't as strong in pass coverage. I would like to see him replace Doughty. (who had a terrible game)
|
Re: Upcoming Cuts
After last night, I'm leaning Moore towards Kareem. He opened my eyes with a nice hit against the Jets and then looked like a solid starter last night. Chris Horton should stick around too though.

Yeah, Doughty hasn't looked too good. Move Landry back to SS and start Moore at FS. |

I am all for Moore starting over Doughty, but instead of moving Landry back to SS I think we should experiment with Kareem at SS and keep Landry back at FS. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
I have been a Doughty critic from the begining. The reason he played those last 4 games in 07 is because there was very little depth. Now we have compition and he cant beat out Horton. I wouldnt cut him but I sure as hell wouldn't start him!

Re: Upcoming Cuts
Well, we clearly brought in these safeties because Reed has struggled at times and last night did him no good. We'll see--these youngins are very green.

Peace out Devine.

unfortunately i think doughty showed himself last night. who besides me is missing a certain #21 right about now? |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
I think we all wish he could come from the grave and play.
Sad Tradgedy RIP ST but i think Doughty will be gone by next year, and the redskins will draft a safety in the high round next year. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
Frost sure made the decesion for the punter even harder, with a 51 avg and a long of 65.

The whole freaking defense had a terrible game, why do you people insist on focusing on just doughty? i'm sorry but i don't think a rookie is the answer. if schweigert were still around, he'd be a better option than putting in a rookie. |

The thing with Frost is that he can punt really well when his job is on the line. If we cut Brooks, he won't feel the pressure to perform.....Obviously, we can't keep two punters. I think Brooks is our guy. |

We should start a poll...how many losses until we see a "Bring the Chin to DC" thread. |

But it's not like Schweigert left on his own terms. He was sent packing because he wasn't a better option than either rookie |

True, still I just think people are being unreasonable and have super high expectations of Doughty. And I don't think Horton (as much as I like him) or Moore are a better option than Doughty. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
Im sorry but all we have is landry and wont work. he needs at least a capable starter next to him. Doughty just doesn't scare other teams

And two rookies picked in the late rounds will? I have nothing against them, I just don't see them as an option. Maybe in midseason. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
Doughty proved himself to be a liability last night. If you review all the long plays for TD he is constantly the breakdown in the defense. He's terrible in pass coverage, proven multiple times last night. He is the deficient player in the secondary and he knows it.
I was disappointed when I heard a safety was cut today and it wasn't him. I know we're vested in him as a starter but teams are starting to realize the weak link in our defense and he is it. |

Fair enough. Well, this is something I've been saying for about four years now (much to the scorn of a few here), but I think this year we may see it more than we ever have before. Shawn Springs at FS. Which would slide Landry to SS. I'm not saying that's going to be a permanent starting lineup, just that I could see that look often. |

well that does put the skins best 11 defensive players on the field. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
Doughty looked like ass last night. He gets exposed in coverage easily. He has looked much better earlier though. Moore is starter talenetd but needs to smartin' up. His angles are often for shit in run support though he does seem to have a better knack in pass coverage. I think we'll see a Moore/Landry combo by season's end. That is if Landry's hammy ever decides to stop being a p**** and heals up.

See this is a much better option...if Doughty is so terrible, then replace him with a better player, not rookies. |

Yeah, but this depends a) on how comfortable the team feels about Rogers' knee right now (I think they are fairly pleased) and b) how comfortable they feel with Torrence or Tryon as the nickel back? |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
I'm sure they've thought about it, since they had him play at safety.

After Doughty's performance Saturday, I hope that this is given strong consideration.

Re: Upcoming Cuts
Watching Chris Samuels get schooled by Julius Peppers makes me want to cut Samuels.
I'm kidding. Of course we shouldn't cut Samuels, but that has got to be absolutely humiliating for Samuels to get annihilated like that. It's not often you see a linemen get completely dominated in that fashion... |

Re: Upcoming Cuts
I know that Reed has taken a lot of heat over his performance Saturday (and rightfully so), but I think this is a case where his a good player to have on the team a good locker room guy and a good special teams guy, the problem comes that the more he plays the more other teams are able to expose him - he's good when he has to come in and play a couple of games for an injured player. I think you'll see an indirect competition between Horton and Moore and as soon as the Coaching staff feels that one of them is ready to start - you'll see Reed benched and Landry moved to whatever spot is open.

Re: Upcoming Cuts
Landry being out def exposes Doughty's weaknesses. At least hes better than Arch tho

I think you make some good points, and much better than some other people who just lash out and insist that Doughty should be cut now and replace him with one of the rookies...that's just not a smart comment. The team has an option of putting Spring at safety, if they feel that Doughty is not cutting it during the regular season. Although, I think having Landry back in, will make Doughty a better player. As I've repeatedly said, Doughty is an average player, you take away Landry and he's not going to carry this team. |

Can we put Colt at SS?
Can we put Colt at SS?
I would say no, but since Campbell sucked it up too, why don't we cut him and put Colt in? LOL. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
Can we put Colt at SS?
Yep, he can be a two way starter, QB and SS! I wouldn't be at all surprised to see on obvious passing downs that Springs moves to FS, Landry to SS, Rogers, Smoot, Torrence and/or Tryon rounding out the nickel or dime packages. Doughty is a liability in passing situations. He's solid in run support but we can't afford to have Matt Stevens 2.0 back there all season. |
Re: Upcoming Cuts
I really like the idea of Springs at safety, as long as Carlos is 100%. That seems to be the best way to get our best guys on the field.
