Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

Even though we lost last night, this made my night. Too bad Pierce wasn't the one hit, come to think of it Kiwanuka whined about Samuels, so he deserved to get decleated by Portis.

It was a good chip, textbook but the cheap shot at the end of the game was uncalled for.

I could seriously watch Cliton Portis pass block all day long. Say what you will about him overall compared to other backs in the league, but I dont think there is a better back at this than Portis.

The only thing that could have made that "totally clean" hit sweeter is if it had been that Pierce Trash

I agree with that about samuels.. it was uncalled for. I understand, though, it was out of frustration and desparation... and I don't think it was malicious he was just trying to impede him any way he could... holding and tackling him.

Samuels was protecting his QB its either take out Kiwanuka or let him have a free shot on his QB. this game is a contact sport sometimes people get hurt.

Chris was playing hard. Waaaay better than when our line would let dallass defenders drag our QB for three yards after a sack (that was my worst day as a skins fan).

No penalty was called either. Unbelievable.

I think Samuels was beat and decided to hold him but it ended up hurting lil buddy he is no John Runyan (I think that is right) tho

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Every tackle in the league is going to hold and drag down a defender on occasion to protect their QB.
It was a good chip, textbook but the cheap shot at the end of the game was uncalled for.
Uncalled for? I'm not saying anyone getting hurt was called for but if you are refering to close to our last play of the game when Samuels was blocking then wrapped an arm around the waste of the defender and as they both were falling Samuels accidently fell on the legs of the defender...if you look at it closely you can see the defenders legs get crossed and when Samuels falls he falls on both legs. It was not intended. Samuels was trying to slow the defender and yes he did hold him when he put his arm around his waste. The injury was not a cheap shot.

I will say I was getting mad at the refs for not getting control of the game and not putting both teams in check. I was getting tired of all the extra activity after the plays. I think it was the first series the Giants had after the RB Jacobs made a run he got up and started walking back to the huddle and walked through several Skins players and finally shoved one. The tension never stopped cause the refs never took control. both sides are at fault with this. I'm not sure who was at fault with the Pierce having his helmet ripped off his head but both would not let go of eithers face mask and kept shoving each other. I did not agree with the play callers who said our man should have been penalized on that play cause he "head butted." He didn't head but Pierce walked into it. When your helmets of you don't go pushing your head into the fray.

kiwanuku came away sounding like a crybaby. he beat samuells on the play and was gonna have a free shot at campbell, so samuells tackled him. plain and simple.

Let's see. Last play of the game, Skins have no chance to win, and Kiwanuka angling for a meaningless kill shot on Campbell. What do you expect him to do? He didn't do anything different than most DB's when they get beat. But, how bout this beauty?

Excellent response. I'll take holding all day long over risking my QB. I'm sure many offensive linemen and coaches would agree. It was the end of the game. There was no point in trying to level Campbell. I think Kiwanuka was just trying to get a hit (any hit) in after the embarrassment of being blown off his feet by Portis. I watched that game and there was a lot of ugly stuff that went on. The above is just one example. No one on the Giants has any right talking about dirty play.
The refs need to step up and stop this. They did a very poor job controlling the emotions of that game. This isn't hockey. (God forbid it might slow the game down and interrupt McCain. Hmmm.)

The only thing I don't like about the wonderful hit Clinton put on, is that he didn't even search for someone else to engage afterwards. The play wasn't over yet, and he's talking trash as soon as he hits the ground. But, other than that....awesome.

Yup ,a cheap shot .Ok you'er beat, grab some jersey don't dive at his legs or ankels.Just remember as I said the chip block was perfect,texbook...but it took two players.Jacobs did it by himself.

Kiwanuka is a pussy and Pierce is a punk. I agree completely with Tuck. Samuels wasn't trying to be a dirty player but there is no way he'd let Kiwanuka put his QB out for the season.

He didn't dive at his ankles he grabbed his waist and tackled him. Landing on the back of his legs wasn't intentional.

I really don't think anyone on the Giants, especially Pierce, are in a position to comment on "cheap shots".

sportscurmudgeon 09-06-2008 09:27 PM

Re: Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

Anyone who does not think that was a cheap shot by Samuels on the last play of the game forfeits their right to screech when the Giants take a cheap shot on Samuels in the rematch. I fully expect at least one shot to Samuels lower legs in the second game. It will cost the Giants 15 yards, but I expect it will happen.

Re: Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

People don't seem to understand the difference between an illegal play and a cheap shot. Samuel's tackling of Kiwanuka was clearly against the rules (i.e., illegal). However, there is nothing that suggests it was an attempt to hurt Kiwanuka (i.e., a cheap shot).

Holding, grabing some Jersey ...yup illegal but not cheap I agree, diving on the mans legs from behind..............dirty.I can defend myself when I see a player coming at me but when they come from behind there is nothing a man can do.What people seem to forget also is he just sat out most of last year with a broken leg ...the same leg.Why do you think a clip is illegal or no blocking in the back,or even the horse coller rule?

Ugh let it go. There was no diving on his legs he simply held him and brought him down.

If it was dirty the league will fine Samuels.

Re: Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

Some interesting comments from Giants players:

"It shouldn't have happened, but it happened," LB Antonio Pierce said of the play. "Our guy is okay, he's healthy. That's all that matters right now. ... It's smart on (Samuels') behalf. No doubt. If David Diehl or Kareem (McKenzie) was in that position, I'd expect them to do the same thing. They could go about it a different way, maybe. I wouldn't want them to try to almost injure a guy and have him out for a couple of weeks. From that standpoint, that's disappointing, but I would expect our guys to protect Eli."

"I understand his reasons for doing it, I don't necessarily agree with it," Tuck added. "You're putting a player's health in the balance there, that's always going to be questionable. But I know Chris. He's not a guy like that (who would) try to take out another guy. It was just a bad judgment play."

SBXVII 09-07-2008 06:22 PM

Re: Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

Ok, What part of Samuels grabbing illegally and both players losing their balance and falling to the ground constitutes a cheap shot. Hell I could almost argue if the DE had not lost his balance and fell down Samuels would not have fallen on his leg. The fact that Samuels was holding/hugging the guy is not cheap it's a penalty yes. The fact both fell down and Samuels accidentally fell on top of him does not constitute a cheap shot.

Maybe the DE needs to re-evaluate his playing in the NFL cause it's full of players landing on each other during the plays. I think the whole Giants defense was providing cheap shots then. Poor Portis was landed on several times...just about everytime they tried to tackle him.

or maybe this should be flag football if the Giants can't take the pounding.

Samuels was trying to protect his qb. Yes, it was not a nice ending to the play, and guess what, he got penalized for it, but he was doing whatever he could to help win that game. Obviously it was not malicious cause Samuels stood over Kiwanuka knowing he did wrong. What Pierce did was far more devious. I would not be happy if it happened to one of our guys, so I understand your point, but the fact that Samuels stood over him in an "apology" like stance means it was just an accident.

They're being worst than the Redskins fans who are overreacting. If Giants' fans want to cry about something, they should whine about their offense not being able to put the game away.

^^^ the refs should have flagged this, especially considering the fact that washington and jacobs jawwed it up the play earlier. the thing that really got me was how the refs were trying to settle things down afterwards by talking with the players. You throw the f'in flag when a PF happens and you dont have to "counsel" players and things dont get out of hand having guys tearing others helemts off, etc . . . .

i expected alot better control from ed and co. but by not throwing the flag on this play they lost control of the game. surprised madden and co didnt comment on this AT ALL but keep harping on jacobs running over landry.

oh about that samuels play, he did what he had to do. samuels is a good guy, no harm intended.

Re: Sheriff gonna getcha, decleating Kiwanuka

Thanks for the video. Looks pretty obvious to me that Samuels knew he got beat, made the intentional penalty to save his QB, and their legs got tangled up and they both went down.

Samuels also hung around after the play with Kiwanuka, looked like he was trying to help him or say he was sorry or something - he was obviously showing concern. Not like he jumped on his legs and got up and taunted him.
