Underdog's
Here's how I see it, some unsung player's who will make the team, #1 D-line Warner, he has stood out amoungst the D-linemen this pre-season, #2 Gary Scott WR, he look's very good in his limited time, very quick out of his break's, and #3 Rufus Brown CB, although he did get beat for a TD last night, the way he was beat would have happened to 95% of the corner's in the league, those are my 3 player's we didn't even know their names when camp started.
I also see pierce getting a lot of playing time this season, he defiently outshines Mitchell, and fit's what William's want's to do on defense, pierce's biggest attribute out there is that he can play all 3 linebacker position's, which I believe will enable him a lot more time on the field this season. |
I want to see Kheri Campbell make the squad. He's the biggest worry I see for someone who can really help us getting cut.
|
I like Pierce too. When he came in as an undrafted rookie, I remember Schottenheimer saying he was the smartest rookie he'd ever coached. He seems to be all around the ball when he's in there... Looks to be a great opportunity for him!
Warner has looked good too.. he seems to have a high motor and gets in the backfield in a hurry. Scott certainly has gotten a lot of looks too. I guess with him getting the kick/punt return work with Morton, that can't bode well for Simon (who I'm also rooting for). Damn. I was just getting used to rooting for Ade. Sadly, I just don't see him making it past next Tuesday. |
Whatever happened to Scott Cloman, he did amazing things in preseason last year but doesn't seem to have gotten the reps this year. Shame.
|
Garri Scott is this year's Cloman.
|
Yeah, well Cloman was at practice camp. Haven't seen much of him in the preseason.
|

I have actually been a supporter of Ade, he has the physical tool's, but right now he lack's the instinkt's, but he play's hard, he may be a guy that develope's with time. I guess were going to find out pretty soon what the coaches think about that. :coach: |
I definitely see Gari Scott, Kheri Campbell, Ralph Brown.
|
hillary duff "fly" is a really good song... but yeah, i think gari has been good, but how much room do we have for a WR? Cliff is gone...that leaves coles, gardner, mccants, thrash, jacobs...will we keep 6? we do like to line up morton out wide sometimes.
|

I think we use Morton as a wide out a little more this year. The problem with Morton is he's not durable down the middle. I think Morton is more versatile than Cartwright. I think we cut Cartwright and keep John Simon and Betts. I was raked through the coils for saying this but oh well, Jacobs is going to have to battle Scott for the fifth spot. Gibbs wants talent and durability. I know Jacobs was a high draft pick, but Scott came in and made an immediate immpression with a TD and is pretty good at punt return. At training camp I saw Scott practicing with Coles, Gardner and McCants. No Jacobs,Cloman or Russell in sight due to injuries. |
if we cut taylor jacobs, i will be more than a little upset. i still think he has the most potential
|
Remember Coles is not going to play the entire season in good health. I think the speed should come from Thrash and Scott.
|
jacobs has very good speed, a former track star
|
Taylor Jacobs impressed the hell out of Gibbs in mini-camp. At least that's what I got from his interviews. I'll be shocked if Jacobs gets cut. Jacobs has better hands and speed than Scott.
|
I think Jacobs is far more talented but what good is he if he plays 4 games out of 16 this year. The train is moving all aboard!
|

The Washington Post reported today that 14 players will be cut. Don't be surprised if one is Taylor Jacobs. The paper reported what I already know about Coach Gibbs. He is notorious for keeping undrafted and low draft players. It doesn't matter how much talent a player has, this is Gibbs football. I'll call the plays that compiment that particular player's skills. I hope Scott makes it. |
jacobs did play in the rams game and showed he can run and catch... the fumble was really unfortunate, but i think the guy that got him just made a good defensive play and didn't give him time to secure it... i think he's plenty safe for now...
|
yeah, i understand you don't like jacob's injury record, yet you see them keeping betts lol ;)
jacob's rookie year went really poorly, and that wasn't really his fault, this is basically his first year. |

jacob's rookie year went really poorly, and that wasn't really his fault, this is basically his first year.
Oh they tried to deal Betts and Gardner away this week for Ogunleye. But Miami didn't think Betts would make the team. For obvious reasons. Let's just say Jacobs was trying out for the team for the fist time. How would you judge his performance against the Rams. On that play he made a good catch and then slowed down to avoid a tackle and forgot about the player behind him. As Gibbs said one player mentioned somewhere in the post. Dawn, that was your chance." We'll know today whose hear and whose toast. |
i think he showed he can play better than gari scott ;) that other guy wasn't good enough obviously... if he cut jacobs i'd be really surprised, and i'm sure someone else would pick him up...
anyways, as you said, we'll know whose right soon enough :D. |
Jacobs has barely had the chance to prove himself.
If Scott makes the team over Jacobs I'd be very, very surprised and I'll gladly admit I was wrong, but I highly doubt that will happen. In fact I think it's more likely we'll see Scott on the first cut list. |
Oh well. We won't know until tomorrow anyway.

Where does Scott Cloman and Cliff Russell fit in this equation? I've heard many speak of Russell's speed.
|
Did we sign Thrash or does he have to wait and see what happens? We could definitely use him on punt return.
|
pretty sure thrash was signed before he started working out here ;)
|
I really want to know where all this nonesense about cutting jacob's is coming from, the guy has been in the league 1 year, he had a potentionally life threating injury, give the guy a break, how many player's miss games due to injury? The NFL is full of productive player's who have missed time due to injury, Why did the Bill's draft MaGahee? He never did anything in the NFL, in fact he couldn't hold up in college, and never played a down last year, I think we have to calm down on the injury front, He has to be judged on his ability, if the guy has a cronic injury problem then you might look else where, but there's nothing like that here, Jacob's isn't getting cut, you can take that to the bank.
|
I agree offiss, don't worry I don't think we have anything to worry about.
Jacobs won't be cut. |

If you're not apart of the committee making the cut, I wouldn't believe anything you took to the bank. Cliff Russell was in the same boat as Taylor Jacobs. If you know anything about Gibbs you know he's famous for keeping undrafted and low drafted players. Jacobs is trying out for a position that needs him to shine at the kickoff/punt return also. Gari Scott scored a TD against Denver's first string and returned several kickoffs with no turnovers. If I didn't know that Jacobs was a high draft pick based on his performance, he would be gozonnnnnnnnnn! |

Russell had his chance....before Jacobs |
I agree offiss, don't worry I don't think we have anything to worry about.
Jacobs won't be cut.
Coles and McCants is playing injured. Maybe they keep Scott and Jacobs. Thrash and Gardner are the key components at the Wideout position. |
Nor did Scott Cloman and Cliff Russell have a chance to prove themselves.....
Big difference, Jacobs actually has some real potential. Cloman and Russell?? Barely NFL Europe material. Cloman maybe, but Russell is a track guy in pads. No hands whatsoever. |
jacobs did show he's got the tools, he'll be on the team, though scott may end up as a tough cut in the end, depending on what the staff decides to do.
|
We're probably both right. If you look at the WR roster. Coles, Gardner, Thrash, McCants, Jacobs and Scott doesn't look bad.
|
they might keep scott for the cheap extra depth due to coles injury... i think he'll make it at least to the final cut... he might end up on the practice squad too.

Not even close with that analogy, There is no way you could have compared Russell, to Jacob's, Matty hit the nail on the head, Russell was drafted because of his speed, period! He had a rep in college of not being able to catch, that is why he lasted as long as he did, and may not have been drafted at all if it wasen't for us. Jacob's on the other hand was rated the 15 best player in last year's draft, as well as the most NFL ready WR in the draft. Gibb's is also known for keeping high pick's as well. I am curious what has Jacob's done to be so bad this pre-season? He had a nice catch the other night, as well in his limited playing time last year, made a couple of unbeilievable circus catches, 1 for a TD, you have to understand that Gibb's will try to show case an individual at times, meaning he will run play's for a specific player to see what he can do, it's an evaluation process, and while that happen's other do not seem to be contributing, but that's only because they are not running play's for that individual, against the Ram's he went to Jacob's and he looked fine to me, and if that's your evaluation process who is going to catch the ball for us other than coles? Who by the way seem's to have a chronic foot problem, no reciever has stood out this pre-season, McCant's maybe, and Scott, and neither one is lighting the world on fire, but that's it, Gardner has been pretty much none existent. |
Thrash seemed slow against the Rams I mean I think thats why Ramsey was over throwing him. the only passes he over threw were to Thrash i think he has lost some speed but he is a Redskin through and through.
|
Ramsey missed Thrash in the endzone because he threw a bad pass, full stop. Anyway, Thrash is not on this team for his blazing speed.
