4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I thought that one play was thread worthy. Tell me you didn't love that call and execution.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Looked like a textbook WCO play. Quick drop. Quick pass. Perfect execution.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Yeah. It was so good I advocated the Steelers do the same thing in a live blog tonight. They ran it, and Willie Parker lost 4 yards.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Gutsy play.
I'm glad Zorn went out trying to win the game instead of not trying to lose it. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I must say the slant is working out better and better.

No doubt. I also love that Jason/Zorn got smart and started straight up abusing the rookie corner Tracy Porter. But it was a ballsy, ballsy call on 4th. There were a few of those around the league today- Shanahan going for 2 instead of the tie, Zorn on 4th and 2, OT in Seattle, Vinatieri on at the buzzer, the Cardiac Cats (Carolina)... Man oh man what a Sunday. Can't wait to watch the Cowgirls vs. Fragile Five (donovan) and the Iggles tomorrow night. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Gutsy call, quickly executed. Sure the O loved it and will give them more confidence in the future. I loved it.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I loved that play, the confidence it took to call and Campbell and Moss executed it to perfection. Instead of playing the percentages, Zorn took the gamble and it paid off. Good for him and Campbell.

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Great call and impeccable execution. Now I wonder if that quick slant is something we can mix up a bit. At some point the DB on Moss will start to cheat to cut off the slant (probably after we've run it once or twice). What do guys think of Moss starting the slant but then cutting back toward the sideline as JC floats a pass over the head of the DB and into the arms of Moss'? I can see this play over and over in my head.

If it's executed correctly and the DB is caught cheating the rest of the sideline will be wide open for Moss to scamper to the endzone. No way in hell will the safety catch him. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Excellent call and execution.
You know what else was an incredible call? Campbell calling an audible and having Betts pick up the blitz on the TD pass to Moss. Anytime you're actually asking Betts to block...that's incredibly ballsy (even though Chris Cooley had nothing to do with it :) ) Seriously though, what an awesome win. Let's keep the momentum going |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
And it was on a quick count. Half the team didn't move. The play was over before the LB's were set and ready to go.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
very gutsy play call. the quick count sealed it. zorn showed alot of confidence in JC to go for it on 4th down. lets hope we can continue to build on what we saw yesterday.

I didn't love the call and execution. I love the fact that we got a coach willing to make the call, and the players to execute it. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
love it, it does change our philosophy from Gibbs era

100% loved it. In the past few years we'd have run it even though there is no clock difference between running and throwing. Hell we'd have probably kicked a field goal, or tired, and porentially give them the ball in good field position. I loved the confidence. There never seemed like any question. |

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
there's no way that call is made with JG calling the shots, just not his style.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I agree, gutsy call...but he really had only two options for that... either go for it (and worst case they would have had the ball at the 35, and the clock would have stopped weather we missed or punted)..or punt..no way would I have put Shisuham out there for a long FG attempt....I'm very glad Zorn went for that, very happy to see us grab a win..instead of coming all the way back just to put it in the Saints hands.
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Great call. Perfect!
One thing I do wonder, why didn't we try a pass on third down? There was 2:05 on the clock and the Saints called a time out... and they stacked the line. Almost all NFL plays take 5 seconds so, run or pass, the clock stops after the play. Anyway, when things work like they did, there is no reason to second guess! Just wondering if I am the only one that thought about the third down pass option... |

Yeah, it looked like we wanted to win. Great job all around in the 2nd half. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
play calling in general was wayy better this game i was proud of dr z
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
great call!!! if it would have all failed though we'd all still be crawling his ass over it though.

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
gutsy call but i liked it alot..

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
These aren't your Joe Gibbs 2.0 Conserva'Skins
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I thought that was the only call to make there. It was too long for a FG and too short for a punt. And as for the slant the defensive formation made it possible for it to work. I bet the play call was made at the line by Campbell. He probably had the option to run or pass (at least I hope that's what happened)

Well, that was FRPLG point, on 4th down an incomplete pass is the same thing as a stopped run. Maybe the run takes a few more seconds off the clock but not many. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
If they can get Kelly 100% and up to speed, they can run that play almost at will with his body size
|
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Was definitely the right call to go for it. Pass or run doesn't matter as the clock would stop on a change of possesion either way.
FG would have been the worst option as it puts them up by 8 and gives the Saints a chance to tie the game. A big return and the skins could be in trouble. Punting wouldn't have been terrible, but it likely would have been a touchback. It would only be a 15 yard difference if they do not make the first down, so might as well go for it. Although if a LB or CB jumped the route and took it back all the way the stadium might have been burned to the ground and I don't even want to think about what it would be like in this place!!!! |

Ya I agree. At that point it was the smart call. I sure don't trust Suisham and wouldn't put the game in his hands from that distance and the way Brooks was punting I would rather go for it on 4th against a weak and tired NO defense. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
First play call from Zorn to show any sack. Word up.

Actual the way Brooks was punting that was right in his rang . |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Joe Gibbs would not have done that

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I like the call. You can't give the ball back to NO and let the defesne try and win it. We saw that crap too much the last few years. Even if we don't make it I still like the call. Always play to win. It was one on one and that's what Santana is paid to do. Beat your guy one on one. But it sure took some balls.

Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
Great call--it FELT soooo good to have confidence, make the gutsy call, and hit it for the WIN!
Confidence builder. |
Re: 4th and 2 the Skins throw to seal the game
I don't know if anyone has said this yet (didn't feel like reading every post), but it was a low risk play. If we punted there wasn't much room there...and it was just out of Suisham's range, so that makes the decision pretty easy. Had he missed it, and (for instance) the Saints marched down the field and scored, we'd be ready to hang Zorn. But it was not a high risk move, and the defense set was perfect to run that slant. All in all, a great gutsy move.
