Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

I think some of us may be underestimating the job he's doing, I thought this was a good read:

Great read- especially when it talks about that guy getting benched...I forget his name.

Seriously though, I love our defense...I think the one posistion we'll have to address next offseason is Defensive tackle. We are weak up the middle. Griffin is not what he was and Montgomery and Golston are serviceable at best. I remember prior to the draft Vinny mentioned DT as probably the number one need. I know GM's love to lie but I think there was noone available that we really liked. We could really use a Kevin Willams type in there to stuff the run and get after the passer.

Blache talks about keeping a lot of things basic but apparently he's pretty cunning. Excellent job by the secondary today. Good article.

I never underestimated Greg Blache.. People dont give him credit for the defense he put together in chicago.. chicago was garbage before that, and now they are a respected D and it was started from what he built.

serviceable at best?? really?? man, those guys are still young dude, and Golston and Monty are jockying for that starting spot. They come to play every game. I actually think they are really good DT's but i do agree we should look to get more yout halong the Dline but Griffin is NOT that old, he's a 9 year vet... but if we did get someone, i want want a Glenn DOrsey type. He needs to be a clear dominant DT like Dorsey was for us to take him, if we cant find a DT like that, we shouldnt draft one in the first 2 rounds..

Good article.

I was doubting Blache, but he's done a great job so far.

Springs doesn't lack on confidence. He should be, when healthy he's one of the best in the game.

Golston continues to impress the heck outta me.

Montgomery on the other hand seems to be in a rut. He needs to get it in gear.

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Blache has been pretyt impressive. The defense hasn't given up more than 17 points yet this season, turnovers are up, penalties are down.. Anyone else notice that Leigh Torrance has stepped his game up this year? He was a liability last year, but he's in the right places so far in '08.

Too soon to say I told you so, but I've been saying since February we wouldn't miss Grilliams as much as most people thought we would.

good article. i did notice that horton had replaced doughty in the line-up late in the game. but i didn't realize blache benched doughty RIGHT after that blown coverage on the fitzgerald td. great move by blache.

i was undecided about whether horton should be made the starter after last weeks game. i am undecided no more. horton is the better player.

7 was from the Bush punt return.. The defense hasn't given up more than 17

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

To give up 17 points in back to back weeks to a couple of pretty high powered offenses is pretty impressive. And the Giants 'O' is no slouch either. The 'D' under Blache appears to be in good hands.

Good Article! Thanks for posting that! And I like the move about benching Doughty after he screwed up. Its kind of dissapointing. He played much better last year. But right now Horton is cleary better.

They also got put in a bad situation on the ARE fumble. Blache is doing a great job so far. I honestly thought the defense would play worse than it has cause of the loss of #21. But so far so good. Next week is the real test.

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Interesting article, even more interesting is that Doughty was benched in favor of Horton due to mistakes he made. I wonder if Doughty has permanently lost his job.

Love this quote:
"After Dallas and Philly, people are going to have to start talking about us," Springs said. Saints quarterback Drew Brees "was number two in passer rating, and he left not in the top 10. Kurt Warner came in in the top two in passer rating. I don't know what he's leaving with, but after 200 yards, a pick and a couple of sacks, I don't think it'll be too good."
Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Blache reminds me of Petibon. Petibon never had stifling defenses - good to very good defenses, but none that were dominant. Like Petibon, Blache doesn't seem concerned about how his defense is percieved ("their to reactionary" "they don't attack enough" ) but is more interested in developing an effective scheme against the strengths of the team he is playing. In this past game, he pretty much gave up the run and attacked Arizona's passing scheme.

It will be interesting to see what his plan is for Dallas, as they seem to me to be a much more balanced team than Arizona.

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Blache definitely has the defense in tune with who they are facing. He's limited the damage, so the offense can do their thing. Two weeks in a row, the Skins D has stopped high powered offenses (the Saints did put up 32 against a shotty Broncos D last night). Can he make it 3 in a row?

He's talking about us as if we're a good team but a hopeless team because we're in the NFC East. Not exactly a raving review but I guess we haven't earned it yet.

The defense is much, much better than I thought it would be. Is it dominant? No, but it's pretty good. I'm not 100% sold on Blache yet, but so far so good.

Listen, I like these guys but they are far too inconsistent. Golston had a sack yesterday but he gets lost in the run game at times. Remember Griffin in the '04 and '05 seasons? He was a guy that teams had to game plan against- unfortunately injuries and age have caught up to him. All I was saying is we need one elite tackle. A guy like that can work wonders for your entire D. And I agree a Glenn Dorsey type would be great.

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

What I really liked about this game was his commitment to stop the pass, even though he's known as a stop the run guy first. Kudos to keeping the coverage hidden well and committing Springs to shut down Boldin. And kudos to the FO for the Horton pick! Credit where credit is due!

We're not a lights out D, but we play ball. We use our personnel well and mix things up. And we've adjusted well when we've needed to so far.

Now, Dallas is going to be a different kettle of fish, especially on the road. But the signs from our D so far have been encouraging. Blache has kept enough continuity with GW's D, but he's brought his own more basic signature, which I like. Good job, coach.

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Goldston had a good game yesterday and I expect him to get better as the season progresses.

But, we do need a strong push up the middle to make it easier for the blitzes if we are to take advantage of our speed at DE.

I want another patented G Blache quote. At the end of the season, we will vote on the top ten G Blache quotes. He coached a great game yesterday. Great job defense!!!

Re: Tip of the hat to Greg Blache

Much better job by Blache over the last two weeks disguising the D and bringing different looks. Week 1 was ridiculously vanilla, but weeks 2-3 have been much better. From the article, ""We repped that the whole week in practice, giving them different looks to keep the quarterback guessing," free safety LaRon Landry said, "so they can't get in a rhythm seeing the same thing over and over."

Blache has his work cut out for him this week against a very talented Cowboys team. We're improving each week IMO, so far, so good.

Good article from JLC, much better than most of his recent stuff, maybe he's trying to step up his game too.
