Raiders finally fire Kiffin

heard this on sportscenter, I am glad it's finally over and I feel terrible for the guy. Raiders and Davis are a mess.

Al Davis needs to fire himself.

They are looking at "assistants" as of now.

I've always liked the Raiders for some reason. Sure their fans may be nutty as hell.. But there's just something about them. I hope they can get their act together.

What a joke. Living in Caifornia has made me hate Raiders fan so this kind of makes me laugh. But in all seriousness the sorry ass Raiders are right next to the Lions right now as a franchise.

i thought coaches got guaranteed contracts? That article says he was fired by phone and without pay?

Al Davis didn't have the balls to fire him in person and doesn't intend to pay him the rest of his contract.

Riggo44 09-30-2008 02:48 PM

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

When Davis finally does kick it, do you think his family will lay him to rest in his White or Black Raiders track suit?

saden1 09-30-2008 02:48 PM

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

Al Davis is trying to screw Kiffin by not paying him the reminder of his contract I guess.

Al Davis is a disgrace...should have been voted off the island a long time ago.

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

If it's a guaranteed contract... good luck. Also, good luck finding anyone decent to take that job.

You would have to be insane to work for Al Davis.

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

Who would be sane enough to work for Al Davis and take that coaching job? Even Marty schottenheimer was asked on Sirius radio if he was interested on the job. He said he would rather jump of the Empire State building hahaha.

I believe it is, Davis tried to get him to resign and Kiffin refused, now he wants to drag the whole thing through the courts. Classic Al move.

Found this on wikipedia. It's pretty old.

But it just goes to prove that if the ship is sinking the Captain is taking his whole crew with him.

I think Al should just go back to coaching the Raiders. I want to see his team go 0-16 so he finally shuts the hell up about the "greatness of the raidas." Does he look like master splinter from the Ninja turtles to anyone else?

Raiders offensive line coach Tom Cable has been chosen as the successor to Kiffin, NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports.

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

The funny thing is Kiffin wanted to fire Rob Ryan( the D-Coordinator) but Davis refused to let him fire Ryan.
I honestly believe Ryan had his defense tank in the 4th quarter the last two games just so he could get Kiffin fired.

Goodell needs to get involved. They are a disgrace to the league.

JoeRedskin 09-30-2008 04:44 PM

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

He was fired "for cause" which is Al's attempt at firing him without paying him. I would LOVE to see the "cause".

Hmmmmmmm, wonder if there will be some litigation on this one. Anyone know the terms of Kiffin's deal?

johnerotten 09-30-2008 05:50 PM

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

it is really sick and pathetic to see al davis right now as i write this, trying to explain and justify why he fired laine kiffin, and why he's not going to pay him.the rest of the league's owners need to get together, and find a way to get rid of him. he's making the whole league look bad by his actions.the raiders will never be the proud franchise they once were as long as he is involved in any way with the organization.it must really suck to be a die hard raiders fan.as bad as the skins have been in the past,it's never come close to that.

Good. I truly hope Kiffin gets his money. He's a good man and a solid coach who got handed the keys to the worst team on earth.

Friggin Al Davis. What a POS. Fires him by telephone, has security escort him from the building, then says he won't pay him. He belongs in an old folks home getting spoon fed. The fact that he's still pulling the trigger on football decisions is flat out pathetic. No question the Commish needs to step in. This is not only a disgrace to football, but to sports in general.

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

What a meltdown over there. Did you guys see the video of our old friend Tim "Zorn is the worst hire ever" Kawakami almost getting beaten up at a press conference by a Raiders goon/official? Truly amazing stuff. What's better is that, according to Kawakami, this isn't even the most bizarre thing that's happened over there. He relates this little exchange, which followed his questioning of the Kiffin hire: Al didn't like that (he asked about Kiffin) and said: 'I'll bet you don't even know who Deng Xiaoping was.' I was like, what? What does that have to do with anything? Al pressed it. 'Who is Deng Xiaoping?' So I thought for a minute, and said, 'Well, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't he the General Secretary of the Chinese government during the Tiananmen Square massacre?' And Al repiles, 'But what can you tell me about him other than that? See? You don't even know anything about your own culture.' I said, 'Al, I'm Japanese-American, not Chinese.' And Al said, 'Ohh, geez. I bet you're going to kill me on that now.' It all happened in front of about 20 reporters, so I didn't have to.

I would be more outraged about the state of the Raiders if I wasn't having so much fun watching that ship sink.

But the saddest thing in this, I think, is that the football team is out there fighting against quality competition, and their reward is having to put up with Count Dracula and his crony knights of evil.

Great post. Excellent case in point of what a circus that organization has become.

On a side- Kawakami, eat crow about the Zorn hating.

I don't know if I heard this right. And I have to believe I didn't. But apparently Al Davis didn't let Kiffin attend the defensive meetings? What the....?!!

Al Davis messed up. He passed on Zorn, as did a lot of other people. He can't have him now, and he knows it. Big Al can have Marty!

I don't know if I believe what Al is saying but boy does Lane Kiffin sound like a douche bag.

JoeRedskin 09-30-2008 09:35 PM

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

I listened to Al's press conference. His story differs significantly from that being reported in the press (mainly that Kiffin was in complete charge of the team, that he and Kiffen had been on speaking terms, that Kiffin wanted to hire his dad away from Tampa).

I still haven't heard Kiffin's story straight from Kiffin - it has all been through 2nd hand sources AND I remember reading a commentator saying a couple weeks ago that Kiffin was rumour mongering. So there may be some truth to some of Al's statements. I suspect, however, that there is also quite a bit of spin.

Regardless, this is gonna go to litigation and it is gonna get ugly.

Re: Raiders finally fire Kiffin

Well, the problem with Al's side is that Kiffin is not the first coach/GM to allege that these things go on over there. Al has no credibility at this point. He's going to have a tough time next year even finding someone to take the job. He might have to pull a Gerry Faust and dip into the high school ranks.

I'm guessing he'll probably promote Rob Ryan to head coach and keep it that way.

I know they put someone else in place whether intrim or not ....they should have tried to hire that ex-Giant coach we almost hired. LOL. He's pretty despirit at this point having been teased with our head coaching job. Go Fassel. LoL

doubt it. if he's paying 2mill a year, someone's greed and ego will short circuit their better judgment.

I'd be a disaster as a head coach, but for that much money, I could live with a year of turmoil.

Def. agree lol. Everytime I look at the face of Al Davis, I feel like I'm staring into the face of death, and if I stare too long I might regret it lol. I also wish I was trying to be funny here, but the sad thing is I'm being completely serious.

Either way, I think this will only be good for Lane Kiffin. That organization has been all the way at the bottom for several years now, and I pretty much agree the only way they will get better is once Al Davis moves on, to put it nicely.
