I edited the thread title.

re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Wow, good for him. I've loved this guy since pre-season. I hope he continues to surprise us!
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Way to go vinny for getting this guy late.
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Wow a 7th rounder making a great impact. Say what you want about Vinny or Snyder they are showing this year that they are turning things around. They got slammed by many here and in the media about taking a month to hire a coach then bashed for who they picked. Its looking like they saw something in Zorn which is now showing u on the field.

re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
im sorry but i have to start it on this thread...bench doughty please??
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Congrats to Horton - well deserved. I really like both rookie safeties (Kareem Moore looks solid too). Neither will ever be Sean Taylor, but they will both play in this league for a long time.

re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Great find by Vinny and co.
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
7TH Round Pick!,7TH Round Pick!,7TH Round Pick!,
Hail to the Redskins!!! |
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Congrats to Horton! Now if we can only get Kareem Moore to start taking Doughty's reps we'll be good.
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
I hope he gets that award for rookie of the week

Great Job Vinny for finding this 7th round pick in Horton
|
re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Well deserved, I think it's amazing to think that Vinny and co. found this guy in the 7th round and look at how far he's come today. NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month! Congrats to Horton and congrats to the coaching staff for all the work they've put in with him too.

I think Horton fell so far in the draft because a lot of teams had concerns about his wrist. In college he had a pretty bad wrist injury and the doctors weren't sure if he would ever regain full range of motion in his wrist. Have it not been for the injury concern Horton may have been a 3rd or 4th round pick. |
Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Well deserved. Hope he keeps this level of play up for this season and many to come. Great job to Vinny and the Scouts for finding this kid.

Here's good article on him from ESPN:

This is why you are not a coach. We are all praising Horton because he has been getting turnovers. I applaud him for that, but he is not ready yet. He actually got the start against Dallas. He was responsible for the blown coverage against Witten on that TD pass that had Washington in a trail technique. After that play Doughty was put pack in, but Horton still saw some reps. I love Horton's progress but he still has alot to learn. |

Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
I thought this was pretty good analysis of the play by Horton - looks like the scheme worked up by Blache worked really well and Horton played it perfectly.

Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
hey im just saying...doughty is making severe mistakes as well in coverage...sooo my reasoning is, puta rookie out there that is a playmaker and get him some experience or play the vet that has been lackluster and subpar so far.
I know there are doughty lovers on here. Hes a hard working guy, i commend him. But he is the new ade jimoh...responsible for giving up that crucial play in coverage. |
Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Horton has made his share of mistakes too, but the INTs seem to blind people to that. Blache benched him at one point last week. I think that's just how it's going to go, both he and Doughty will share time and whoever is F'ing up more will ride the pine. Doughty still fills a role here. I just don't understand why some are so eager to push him out.
|
Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
I think he should definetly replace reed doughtry on the starting line if he already hasnt.

Its the jimoh factor..the ability to give up that td or big play that couldve sealed the game. Plus i think some people are still missing sean. I just dont see anything in doughty that ever makes me be like...wow...great play!!! Sure hes in on a few runs, but horton punishes people his reaction time is better, and although he probably makes his fair share of mistakes, perhaps even more than the wily vet doughty does, i think its the glimme that he could turn into a spectacular playmaker on defense. You want to get your playmakers out there. No doubt horton will learn and make mistakes and doughty plays a role in this defense as a leader and mentor. BUT horton is faster, more intense and 3 years in doughty should be at his peak by now...weve SEEN what the man can do. Hes solid...i wouldnt want him to go to another team. But i would rather see horton in there on the coverage and doughty stuffing the run |
Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
Gotta give Vinny credit especially when most of us don't mind dishing out crap to him. Kareem Moore and Chris Horton are going to be mid to late round gems, just like Golston and Montgomery were. That's 4 finds for Vinny in later rounds.

Good points, but then again finding those late round gems is one of the reasons Vinny is criticized- i.e. his willingness (some may call it eagerness) to trade picks for veteran players. |
Re: Horton NFL rookie of the month
You know, I was thinking: Horton's interceptions may be hiding his overall play on the field, while Carlos Rodgers' failure to catch interceptions are hiding his. Maybe we can get Dr. Andrews to perform a hand transplant between the two?

I agree wholeheartedly Matty. From what I've read, everytime they walk off the practice field Horton is asking Doughty questions because he does'nt have as much experience. Horton has given up big plays too. Like his blown coverage on Witten. I'm not a Doughty "lover", but like you said he does serve a purpose here. I don't "think" Doughty is ever going to make the pro bowl, and I would'nt be surprised if Horton ended up making a few of them. But why have him out there all the time if he's going to blow coverages like he did with Witten? Is'nt that the complaint about Doughty? I can't wait for Horton to understand his assignments and be the starter because I do believe he is an upgrade and has better skills than Doughty. I don't know, I always thought it was better to learn the system before you start. Doughty was kinda thrown in there because of what happened to Sean. Horton has a great opportunity here and I'm sure he's going to make the most of it. I like the guy a lot. I just don't understand the animosity for Doughty. Especially since Horton is getting more playing time and Doughty is helping him out. |

there's nothing like learning at our and the 49ers expense. it's about time he stopped screwing it up. it's probably more his scouts then him anyways. thread related---horton is benefitting from sound defensive coaching, and being surrounded by smart talent. |

Sure Horton has made mistakes, but he makes up for them by making plays. I love how everybody is using the vet excuse for Doughty saying that he knows the defense blah blah blah. Doughty was benched in the Arizona game and the Dallas game for blown coverages so that's a pretty lame excuse to use. So the difference is: Horton makes up for his mistakes by making plays, Doughty makes mistakes and that's it. Doughty has had his chance to prove that he can be a starter on this team and he has failed. Doughty is about to lose his job to a rookie and to me that doesn't speak well for him at all. Doughty had his chance he failed, let's give Horton and Moore their chance to prove themselves now. |

Did Horton win the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week Award?

EVERYONE DOES!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the kid. Reed should be our special teams all-star. But the boy can't cover. Stop trying to make him cause he can't. Throw him in there to blitz cause he can tackle. Other than that, Horton, Hamilton, or Moore need to get in there. It can't be but so hard anyway. Laron Landry erases problems by himself. |

Don't forget Heyer (undrafted rookie free agent, Maryland) who beat out Jon Jansen. Guys like this are the real gems. |

Vinny has not been the sole decision maker regarding player acquisition. From what I understand it's typically been a 3 headed monster of Snyder, Cerrato and the head coach. It seems to me that now Vinny's voice might be a little stronger than it had been in the past especially with the influence of a certain famous head coach. The Jason Taylor deal might have been a little pricey in terms of draft picks, but the way he justified it was #1, we lost two defensive ends in one day and the move was necessary, and #2, your getting a six time pro bowler who they feel is still very much at the top of his game and your trading picks which are not guaranteed to pan out at all. With the exception of Horton, the jury is still out on this years draft but if the past few years drafts were any indication were looking good for the future. |
