The Official 2004 Prediction Thread

Ok here's where we all put up or shut up.

Let's hear all of your 2004 predictions. Feel free to predict records, stats, redskins related stuff, league related stuff, Super Bowl winners, MVP's, rookies of the year, flops, surprises, anything goes, you get the picture, right?

Once the season starts I'll lock up the thread and after the season we can take a look back and see who's the real Swami and who needs to get themselves a new crystal ball.

Let's have some fun with this, hard to believe it's almost time for some football again!

sorry i didnt do the math, i wasnt looking to get it 100% accurate, but its pretty close to 50-50

That Guy 09-01-2004 09:36 PM

S Taylor - defensive rookie of the year, maybe a pro bowl... i really think he could make a run at it.

WRs of 2004:
1. Moss
2. Holt
3. Harrison (okay, these are easy, but i need to pad my stats)

A. Green give P. Holmes a run for his money in fantasy points this year...

Jamal settles out of court and doesn't miss a game (due to litigation)...

redskins in the playoffs... portis catches more balls than last year... until i see a game or two its impossible to know how much gibbs is going to run him... coles still manages to put up good numbers even though he has a funky foot...

at least 2 trick plays involving gardner or tupa throwing a ball...

the browns will still suck, as will arizona's D and baltimore's O will still be pathetic (though it will be better than in 2003).

miami wins at least 4 even though they're absolutelty horrible right now.

saints in the playoffs? yes.

vick doesn't quite live up to the insane hype (puts up under 800 rushing, under 55% completions)...

skins put up more sack from the d-line than last year, both lavar and marcus get at least 8...

gardner gets displaced to #3 in favor of either jacobs or mccants

taylor gets 8+ ints...

SmootSmack 09-01-2004 09:46 PM

NFC East:

Eagles (12-4): Every year I pick them to crash and they don't so maybe if I don't the opposite will happen
Redskins (11-5): Joe Gibbs. Enough said
Cowboys: (8-8): Great defense, but they have no skill players offensively that scare me
Giants (4-12): Should have kept Rivers and their first rounder next year

NFC North:

Packers (11-5): As long as Tim Couch isn't asked to step on the field. Might not even make the team anyway
Vikings (10-6): Off to a bit of an ominous start with Bennett's injury and Smith's suspension
Lions (6-10): Do or Die for Harrington. He's got a great offensive line and some exciting receivers
Bears (6-10): Thomas Jones is not the answer at RB

NFC South:

Saints (10-6): That's right the Saints!
Panthers (8-8): I think it will be like two years ago where they lost most of their close games
Falcons (5-11): Hall's injury kills an already weak pass defense. And I don't like Peerless as a no. 1 WR
Bucs (4-12): Gruden's show without a doubt now. Seems to be building for the future. Simms starts by midseason

NFC West:

Seahawks (13-3): Have no obvious weaknesses
Rams (9-7): I'm just not all that impressed with the defense. I see a lot of 35-34 games
Cardinals (6-10): Losing Boldin hurts but I'm anxious to see what Dennis Green does with McCown
49ers (1-15): It's all on Barlow but the team will be playing from behind more often than not

AFC East:

Patriots (12-4): Anxious to see how having a real back impacts the team
Jets (9-7): Nice move picking up McCareins
Dolphins (8-8): Fiedler might not be impressive but he wins. Why trade a 2nd round pick for Feeley? Don't get it
Bills (5-11): I'm guessing Bledsoe is done after this year

AFC North:

Ravens (10-6): It's all about Lewis and Lewis
Bengals (8-8): Defense is still weak. And Palmer over Kitna could pay off in the long run, not this year
Browns (7-9): Suggs and Green is a fierce backfield combo, but how long will Garcia's back hold up?
Steelers (5-11): Roethlisberger will be starting by midseason, if not sooner

AFC South:

Colts (13-3): James and Harrison will be motivated with the lure of new contracts
Jaguars (10-6): Great defense, rising star in Leftwich. I like Reggie Williams and Fred Taylor is underrated.
Titans (9-7): Pains me to say it because their my second favorite NFL team but I think they miss the playoffs
Texans (6-10): In a tough division, but I think they're making good strides. Especially David Carr

AFC West:

Chiefs (14-2): The receivers are awful but so what. Now, if Priest gets hurt....
Raiders (10-6): Collins should be starting, not Gannon
Chargers (8-8): You heard it here first, LT has an unprecedented year, 2,000 yds. rushing, 1,000 receiving
Broncos (5-11): Not a fan of Plummer at all

NFC Championship: Redskins over Seahawks
AFC Championship: Chiefs over Ravens

Super Bowl: Skins over Chiefs-hey, I can dream can't I :httr:

SUNRA 09-01-2004 10:04 PM

Redskins 10-6
Eagles 10-6
Dallas 7-9
Giants 8-8

Redskins are the NFC East Division Champions. We will face the Seahawks or the Panthers in the NFC Championship. We win to make our sixth appearance in the Superbowl. Portis has 136 yds. and wins MVP!

Parcells quits. T.O. demands a trade. And Coughlin, well I give a damn what Coughlin does. The Giants sucked last year and they suck this year.

SUNRA 09-01-2004 10:08 PM

The teams to watch for are Carolina, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Jets and Cinncinati. Theses teams have good QBs and coaches and are a year away from being serious contenders.

EEich 09-01-2004 10:27 PM

Tommy Maddox (holding a place for Ben Roethlisberger) and Carson Palmer (never thrown an NFL pass) good QBs?
The teams to watch for are Carolina, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Jets and Cinncinati. Theses teams have good QBs and coaches and are a year away from being serious contenders.
rome108 09-01-2004 11:06 PM

by week 8 Bill Parcells slips on a noodle on the ground of an all u can eat Chinease buffet and is unable to finish coaching the season, thus solidifying the cowboys dismal year of 4-12.

Skins sweep Dallas and NYG, go 1-1 against Philly, Skins final record is 12-4, superbowl champs over the Colts

Cowher is fired in Pittsburgh after another losing season, as is MIke Tice in Minnesota.

Cardinals, under Denny Green, make the wild card

Robert Gallery = Tony Mandarich

skinsfanthru&thru 09-02-2004 12:30 AM
Colts (13-3): James and Harrison will be motivated with the lure of new contracts
if harrison has been playing as well as he has being unmotivated then holy *$#! cuz thats a scary ass thought.(well not too scary since he's on one of my fantasy football teams :D )

While I have seen many people saying Taylor is a lock for DROY, I'm gonna take it a step further and say he wins the overall Defensive Player of the Year award as well.
OROY goes to Matt Schaub(qbs almost always win this) while the overall Offensive player of the year(atleast I think there's also a offensive player of the year award, lol) goes to L. Tomlinson who somehow has an ever better overall year than last year.
NFC division winners:Minnesotta, Washington, Seattle, and New Orleans
NFC wildcards: Atlanta(schaub comes in for a dinged up Vick and steals the team from him) and Green Bay
AFC division winners: Indiannapolis, New England, Pittsburgh(reclaim their old swager), Kansas City(who romps their way to the SB)
AFC wildcards:Oakland and Jacksonville

skins finish 10-6 and win the division, but lose in the confrence championship game to Minnesotta who beat the Chiefs in the most explosive offensive SB ever with multiple SB records falling in that game.
Dallas finishes behind the Giants and the eagles don't even make the playoffs after Mcnabb gets hurt again near the middle of the season.

Coach of the year goes to Jack Del Rio, league MVP goes to Daunte Culpepper who also wins SB MVP.

The suprise teams of each confrence will be the San Diego Chargers who have an 8-8 season with a couple key spoiler upsets while also having a couple very close loses(and they use the pick traded to them from NY to select Mike Williams) and the Falcons who under the leadership of Matt Schaub make the playoffs after being left for dead halfway through the season which causes the unthinkable, a qb controversy involving the most explosive offensive player in the league aka Vick.

Gruden comes very close to losing his job this year, while Mike Shannahan and Wannstead do lose theirs.

Key Redskin achievements are:Portis rushes for over 1700 yards and 18 TDs(plus 450 receiving yards and 3 receiving TDs)/ Brunnel earns another Pro Bowl visit with over 3300 yards passing and a better than 2-1 ratio of TDs to ints/ the defense has roughly 15-20 more sacks than last year/ all of our starting lbs(washington, arrington, and peirce) make the pro bowl with wash. and arr. named as starters and peirce as an alternate/ Coles plays through the pain and has a similar statistical year to last year except with an improvement of 4-5 TDs/ and our entire WR group plays well with Taylor Jacob slowly emerging part way through the year and by the end of the year he has been pushed up to 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart.

jermus22 09-02-2004 12:31 AM

Jimoh

Ade Jimoh leads team with 18 TDs! :cool-smil

skinsfanthru&thru 09-02-2004 12:39 AM

i meant to add in mine that we once again become the last team to beat the eventual SB champs as we defeat Minnesotta in our season finale after having sealed the divisional crown the week before.

SmootSmack 09-02-2004 12:42 AM
Ade Jimoh leads team with 18 TDs! :cool-smil
jbcjr14 09-02-2004 08:14 AM

Skins 10-6 after starting 1-4, then going 9-2 over the last eleven weeks of the season. Wild card berth and they will travel to Seattle for the wild card game where Gibbs defense totally shuts Alexander down (less than 30 yds rushing in the game) and the skins win big. Then travel to Philly and get beat by a horrible pass interference call on Ade Jimoh (in for the injured Springs) with 5 seconds to play in double OT!

Bergman14 09-02-2004 11:04 AM

my only prediction, the Panthers win no more then 8 games.

RedskinRat 09-02-2004 11:24 AM

Redskins 12-4
Sweep of Cowboys and Eagles

Opposing players cry when they have to go through the Redskins secondary, some bring notes from their Mommy.

Redskins beat the Broncos in the SB. Champ Bailey asks for a trade.

Italicized teams are the wildcards.
AFC East:
Jets
Bills
New England
Miami
AFC North: (this division could go completely upside down and I wouldn't be suprised.)
Bengals
Ravens
Browns
Steelers
AFC South:
Colts
Titans
Jaguars
Texans
AFC West:
Kansas City
Broncos
Raiders
Chargers
NFC West:
Seahawks
Rams
Arizona
49ers
NFC South:
Carolina
New Orleans
Atlanta
Tampa Bay
NFC North:
Vikings
Lions
Green Bay
Bears
NFC East:
Washington
Eagles
Dallas
Giants

Biggest suprises:
The Brown's offense tears holes through people, but they don't have a defense worth shit. They are what the Vikings were a year or two ago.

Lions: Beat out the packers for #2 in that division. Watch out for this young offense, will be atop this division within 2-3 years.

Giants: Get a lot more wins than people are expecting. I wouldn't be suprised to see them finish 3rd in the NFC East and go 6-10 or even as good as 8-8.

Patriots: Totally fall off. Yet again.

Saints: Finally play well in December!

AFC South a VERY tight division. Titans, Jaguars AND the Texans fight it out for either a wildcard birth, or they all sit at home because the competition is so good.

The AFC Championship game will be the Cheifs against Indy. Whoever wins this win's the big dance. Even if it's not the AFC championship game.

The NFC Championship game will be between Seattle and Carolina in the typical defense vs offense match up, a close game but Matt Hasselbeck and his receivers go on to the big game, which they would have last year if the receivers can hold onto the ball.

PREDICITIONS-

NFC EAST-
Eagles 10-6
REDSKINS 9-7
Dallas 7-9- QB problems does Dallas in.........
Giants 5-11-lousy offensive line does new QB in, as well as holes in defense.......

Super Bowl-Patriots vs Seahawks, Patriots get another Super Bowl.......

Rookie of the Year-Defense-Sean Taylor Redskins/Offense-Stephen Jackson
MVP Tom Brady

If we can stop the run, 12-4. If we continue to struggle, 9-7. Either way we'll be better than we have in a long time.

Sleeper Team of the season

The sleeper team of the season will be the houston texans. Young team with loads of talent, with carr, davis, and A johnson. If capers is able to get the defense steady, they could upset some teams this year and finish at .500 or better.
