Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
To fully understand the logic of this thread you would have to put yourself in the mindset of early Feb 2008.
There was a lot of talk about the reason Snyder hired Zorn was to give him a year to hire Cowher next season. I remember during the off season a source told ESPN's John Clayton that Cowher told the Redskins along with others that he was looking to start back coaching in 09. Now I'm 100% sold on Zorn being the head coach I love what he has done with the team. The attitude, the chemistry, the work ethic and killer instinct he has brought to this team. I just don't think Snyder was serious about keeping Zorn for the long haul. He said that before the season and he was suppose to be optimistic about his new hire and the future of his franchise but I really felt he was a fill in for Coach Cowher. I did some research and unless I over looked it no coach in NFL history other than interim head coaches has the assistant coaches been picked for someone ever. Now I also remember Cerrato & Snyder they weren't looking for a flashy pick at head coach. Jim Zorn wasn't even in contention as a prospect for any NFL head coaching job talk about a non-flashy pick it was more like non-existent pick. Comparing Zorn's resume to Mooch other candidates why pick Zorn over anybody? It was also said that Mooch could out interview all the candidates. So why hire Zorn? He doesn't really have much to offer right? How much experience does he have? Why put a playoff caliber team in hands of a rookie head coach? Even Lane Kiffin was at least O-coordinator at USC. I believe that Snyder hired Zorn to fill in thinking that he was going to have a bad season then fired Zorn for Cowher. So the hire and firing of Zorn would justify the hire of Cowher does that make sense? Now no one could say Snyder is always after superstar players & superstar coaches because he gave Zorn a shot but he sucked and the big trade pick up Jason Taylor was due to Daniels injury only everyone knows that and this is the first year in a while we had a big draft. It seems it could have been a big smoke screen it actually would have been a win-win for Snyder because he probably would have thrown numbers Cowher's way we never seen before to recruit him because we need a coach that knows how to win people would be happy. Now with the success of Zorn and how he has the team marching to his beat and doing a hella of a job I know he is the future head coach with out a doubt. Now Snyder gets credit for change the culture in Washington there the win-win but I wonder if this was Snyder plan and if it was true will Snyder ever admit it. Do y'all think Zorn was a temporarily hire or long term? Mods can we make this a poll also? |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
hmmm I would not put it past the Danny. That said who the hell cares I'm still so ZORNEY!!
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
I think you watch too much tv.
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
I think Dan and Vinny did a long meticulous search for a head coach, and found what they were looking for in Jim Zorn. End of story.
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Who really gives two shits, the mans doing a great job. Anybody in this league is a temp if they aren't getting it done anyway PERIOD
I guess this thread to me is a moot point. But if I happened to be a mind reader I would certainly share Dan's every thought....movin on |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
I think 53Fan is onto something.
But in reality, if that is what Vinny C. and Snyder were thinking, well it ain't happening now. If Zorn continues his success for the rest of the year I'd have no doubts that Zorn would be our coach for a very long time. |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
you believe in a lot of conspiracy theories don't you?
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
And we are re-visiting this now why??
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Zorn won the job on his preparation, he was called in unexpectedly and had a plan; and his Leadership - which is what this team has been missing since Gibbs I.

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
End this shit
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Someone should close this thread. Zorn is our coach. Period.

Paragraphs are overrated.

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Not really sure what the poll would be?
Is Snyder a shrewd businessman who covers his bets when possible? Six months ago would most reasonable owners have preferred Bill Cowher over Jim Zorn to be their HC? |

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
i don't think snyder would tank the team for a year waiting on cowher - he's just another coach, not a god. I mean, before that SB win, plenty of people wanted him fired too.
zorn interviewed REALLY well - all you need to do is watch his pressers to see what they probably saw. he's honest, he's smart, he understands the game, and he's been preparing for this for years. |

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
I was afraid that the Zorn hire was a temporary fix waiting for Cowher. Honestly noone woulda picked Zorn over atleast 10 other possibilities. I'm very pleased at Zorn's showing so far, but there is a lot of football left this season. I'm very proud to have Jim Zorn coaching the Washington Redskins! Couldn't say that about Steve Spurrier.

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
if the skins would have hired cowher, everybody at redskin park would have at least gotten new spit guards out of it...GO ZORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Zorn seems to be a better fit then the Jaw. Besides I could not watch the Jaw. He is f'kin ugly. And they never landed on the moon. And the bigfoot thing is fake.

Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
I think Snyder hired Zorn because that's who Jimm Fassel wanted. But then when it leaked out and the fans were on the verge of a massive riot which would have ended with the beheading of Snyder he knew he needed to look else where. I don't think he had any intention of looking in house until Zorn kicked in his door one morning and said to Danny, ""We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of, you wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just gotta tell you what I'm feeling... gotta make you understand. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you. Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you. We've known each other for so long, your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it. Inside we both know what's been going on, we know the rules and we're gonna play it. And if you ask me how I'm feeling, don't tell me you're too blind to see" And the rest, my friends, is history. Now, thank you to JGisLordOfTheRings for 'letting' me steal your bit. Thanks to htownskinfan for reminding me of said bit (and my great idea for a Halloween custom that no one will get). And thanks to Redskin Warrior who taught me that all my English teachers were wrong - paragraphs are for suckers and commies!

I've come to face the music this thread made better sense to me while I was on cloud 9. Now after reading it again day after it was one of those it didn't come out the way it was suppose too. I never saw that youtube until now that was basicially what I was thinking, but nonetheless I put myself out there to get hammered and it was well deserved. :spank: |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Wow Snyder makes a great choice in picking his coach and you sume it up as pure luck. Do you also write for Sally Jenkins on the side?

I doubt that Snyder hired Zorn just to buy a year until Cowher was ready for a couple of reasons. 1) Snyder is actually a fan of the team and I think he wants to see them do well, even if that means hiring a complete nobody who just happens to know how to win in the NFL. 2) If he did want Cowher next year wouldn't it make more sense to hire a short term coach who's ideas and schemes match Cowhers more closely? Why go from Al Saunders offense, to the West Coast, then back to a power running game/ball control scheme? If you did that you'd not only be throwing away this year, but you'd likely be throwing away the first year under Cowher while he gets everything in place. 3) Who's to say Cowher would actually come here next year, especially after it becomes clear that Snyder just goes through head coaches like they're nothing. (this one is hypothetical, assuming that Snyder were to fire Zorn after a year) 4) WWRAD? (What Would Rick Astley Do?) |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
i think they hired zorn as the offensive coordinator because they were absolutely blown away in the interview but it was just too risky to make him a head coach because he had no experience as a coordinator.
when there continued search yielded no candidates that impressed them they said in laymens terms what the hell lets give him a shot at the top spot. if they had hired a top candidate and failed it would have just been a failed attempt and they would have moved on, but with zorn if he had failed miserably it would have been another snyder mistake and snyders image with the media and fans would have taken another hit, and I believe that snyder is at least a little worried about having an al davis type image with the fans and media which i believe made him a little gun shy in pulling the trigger on a coach that impressed him very much. |
Re: Snyder's Possible Head Coach Smokescreen
Wow. I've heard of tinfoil hats, but never saw a tinfoil football helmet before.
Don't be loony. Leave that to the Oakland fans. |

True. If he wanted a fill-in, he could've picked up any of us for $50,000. |

If he really wanted cowher i think he would have gotten him this year or moved on to another candidate. |
