Wade to call the Defense in D.
it is happening. JJ is apparently making his move to .....move Wade
ESPN - Source: Phillips will call defensive plays for Cowboys - NFL |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
They should of made him defensive coordinator instead of head coach to begin with. This teams a wreck. JJ could F-up a wet dream.

Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
if the D does'nt play any better than they did sunday,it does'nt matter if vince lombardi or wade were calling plays, they'd LOSE!!!!

Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
I can't believe they think THAT'S the problem.
They just truly have a lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Ware, Ratcliff and Newman (when he's healthy, but hasn't look good since) are the best talent they have over there. Ellis and James have fallen off this year and the defense is mediocre at best. They aren't a bad defensive team, just an average one. The secondary on the other hand is an absolute train wreck. They are getting owned in every facet of the game. |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
ehh their offensive coordinator will be running the show next year....any body second that?

He's already measuring Wade Phillips' office windows for drapes. He may be running this team in a week or two. |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
I was watching some espn or comcast the other day and it had a fact up on screen about head coaches that are also play callers. I think there are about 8-9, Zorn included. There are 0 head coaches that were defensive play callers, untill now.
I wonder how many there have ever been. Madden maybe? Seems like a old school thing if at all to me? |

Well the O has not looked that great either this year. Could we see both gone next year? |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
Why doesn't Jerry Jones just coach the team himself?
|
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
NFL live on ESPN just reported that jerry jones told wade phillips to take away stewart's
calling the defensive plays, and he also told jason garrett to simplify the offense this week. jj made the decision as the owner, not wade phillips.romo is set to come back against us in november.they also said if dallas is not doing any better,he(WP) may be gone and garrett may be the HC.i really hope things implode down there and we stay on a roll.all i want for xmas is for us to beat the shit out of dallas,ny,and the iggles in dc! |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
The Cowboys are slowly turning into the Raiders.
|
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
Someone mentioned the Raiders, but I see see the 2000 Redskins: a meddlesome owner, a locker-room full of undisciplined hired guns, and a spineless obsequious coach. Now all we need is for Eddie Murray to attempt a 55 yard FG and we will be right there.
For all the talk from Cowboys players of Wade making football fun again last year, it is times like this that you need a grimreaper like Parcells. He would not stand for any of the crap going on down there and, perhaps more importantly, he wouldn't be afraid to kick JJ the hell out of his office. For all of Synder's failures in his early days it appears that Gibbs taught him the appropriate way to be an owner while JJ learned nothing from a legend like Parcells. |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
maybe if wade does well calling the team's D this week, jerry may even let him design a game plan next week.

As a coach Parcells was certainly great, but he can't compare to Gibbs in terms of building a culture of accountability, trust, and patience. Parcells, to me, seems to have been primarily focused on himself. Whether it was bolting the Patriots during SB week, or bailing on the Bucs at the last minute. |

That's a fair take. I just think a wobbly coach is always going to have trouble there, much for the same reasons Turner got shortcircuited here. You need someone to stand up to Jones and Wade has proven himself incapable of doing that. It is interesting that this culture of accountability that Gibbs installed seems to have survived a regime change, whereas all hell has broken lose down in Dallas. |
Re: Wade to call the Defense in D.
I dont know if you need someone to stand up to jones as much as you need someone that jones respects..youve got to give the man credit he has one of the most profitable franchises in the world...plus he has championships..its obvious he doesnt respect wade and he respected parcells..

I've always believed that Parcells is great at turning around struggling teams, but not maintaining good ones. He sees an opportunity to overhaul a struggling team or one that is missing a few major components and has them in the playoffs in a year or two. Then he "retires" to await another project. His is the quick-fix and gone. Gibbs changed the culture and mindset of Snyder and the team. |

Just curious, do you attribute that to Snyder, Gibbs, or some other reason? I am sure that the cowboys still have a high percentage of Parcells players. I think the different dynamic of both teams has always been interesting. for example: when they had Tom Landry (the stoic), we had George Allen, (a little emotional). |
