Who is available to replace Kelly?
should have kept Billy McMullen ... he had a hell of a pre-season with us ..
anyone know who we might be looking to replace the "so-far-this season" waste of a draft pick? If we went off our own practice squad .... Horace Grant? |

They'll probably sign someone like Maurice Mann or Burl Toler who were with the Skins in camp. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
We already have Devin Aromashodu. McMullen was released by Seatle Sat. He hurt a finger and would be out several weeks so they let him go.
We could bring Devin (who played with JC in college at Auburn) up from the practice squad and sign McMullen and put him on practice squad to get healthy. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
^ tru indeed... like the idea of that a lil

Devin in college:
Four-year letterman who opened 31 of 51 career games…was 71-1,333, 9 TDs for career…yardage total marked 10th-highest in school history, while 18.8 yards per catch ranked fifth-best in school history…also was 38-22.6 KOR avg….had at least one reception in last 19 games…started nine of 12 games as senior…was 26-494, 4 TDs receiving and 20-24.3 KOR… from the Redskins website:

The former Auburn standout was a teammate of current Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell and cornerback Carlos Rogers from 2003-05.

Devin Aromashodu |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
McMullen isn't eligible for the practice squad, so let's forget that idea
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Wow, no mention of Anthony Mix? Hopefully Kelly will be able to play, if not I'd go with Devin A. at this point.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
My guess is they'll go with Devin or they'll find someone who knows something about the offense. McMullen would have been nice but it is not in the cards. Look for Davis to get a lot more looks in 3-sets. Against the right secondary his size and strength create a mismatch with him on a nickle CB or safety. We need him to win some battles from here on out.

Just as long as they don't go for those stupid Davis reverse/option. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
someone off the practice squad. i don't care who. but at least they are semi familiar with what is going on around here
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Let's see... 1 reception for 6 yards... how in the world will replace that kind of production?
Who could be awesome enough to fill Kelly's ginormous shoes? I nominate Cooley's wife. We know she's "fit" and she would probably distract the opponent's DB's a lot more than Kelly did. Screw this - we don't need another benchwarming WR. Us the roster spot on a safety... |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
I would bring back Mix because of his outstanding special teams play. We are fine at WR, with or without Kelly this year.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Yea we really dont need another WR. Moss, ARE, Trash, and Thomas. We rarely split 4 wide, and if we do it's Cooley or Portis who goes out.

Yeah, he looked stiff and slow trying to turn that corner. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Anthony Mix and practice Hall of Famer Taylor Jacobs are available.

TE's are not meant to run end arounds, I think it was a pretty bad call on Zorn. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
I thought he looked like he was going to throw it, and that's why he wasn't running at full speed.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
I know that, but still you have to figure any TEs running and end around option pass, are going to be a lot slower than any WR. Doesnt seem to be an effective play to me. If I were a DB, I see a TE running an end around, I will let my LBs get to him because chances are he is not that quick to break a hole and I will stick on my WR because it just seems fishy.

Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Well be prepared to see it again cause last week Zorn said he probably would run it again. He stated it was not Davis's fault for the no yards. He said the Browns D picked the best play to use against that play and when Davis came around the end the Browns were waiting for him. He stated it was just a good play decision on the Browns part. Supposedly they used some sort of blitz package and both ends sealed of the ends causing Davis to try and force it outside further then the end of the line.

We better run this if we're up by two or three TDs. Otherwise I would say bad idea. |

It will probably go for 50 - 60 yards against the Lions. Any Lions' fans on the board??? |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
i dont think theres any lions fans ANYWHERE!

Ok, thank you. I already got the smack down by Smootsmack; "McMullen isn't eligible for the practice squad, so let's forget that idea" No need for people to waste their time saying the same thing. I agree with you all ...had a brain fart sorry. Have a nice day....;) |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Zorn said today that the team is going to rest Kelly until after the bye week then push it hard and see how it responds. If it flares up he will then go on IR.
Saw the video on redskins.com, not sure how to link to it. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
practice squad is for players before they have two accrued seasons... i think you get a season counted if you're on the 53 man roster (active or inactive) for like, 8 games in a single year...

Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
sign a safety? what are you high? we already have 4. how is adding a 5th safety going to help us at all? going with only 4 receivers is risky. what happens if one of them gets banged up and becomes injured? what do we do then? just roll with 3?

Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
Have any of these guys been picked up?

WR 6'2" 190 Alabama Harvey, Jeron WR 6'5" 215 Houston Jenkins, Darnell WR 5'10" 190 Miami Jones, Jason WR 6'1" 180 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Jones, Nate WR 6'1" 195 Texas McBride, Shaheer WR 6'2" 198 Delaware State Paysinger, Brian WR 6'2" 206 Oregon Pittman, Billy WR 6'1" 200 Texas Purify, Maurice WR 6'3" 224 Nebraska Reece, Marcel WR 6'0" 231 Washington Reynaud, Darius WR 5'9" 201 West Virginia Rivers, Jason WR 6'2" 194 Hawaii Russo, Anthony WR 5'11" 185 Washington Sam, Lorne WR 6'3" 220 Texas-El Paso Smith, Taj WR 6'1" 187 Syracuse Swan, Luke WR 6'0" 195 Wisconsin West, Joe WR 6'1" 213 Texas-El Paso Williams, Edward WR 6'4" 206 Lane (TN) They were on the bottom of the draft class as far as not being drafted. Perhaps some got picked up and it was not changed but some have height that I think would be interesting to explore. |
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
I'm not saying anything about throwing them into the fire....I'm talking about putting someone on our practice squad if we move one up from practice squad. Maybe someone who can learn the offense for a half a yr and who knows what could happen next yr.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
We have too much invested in Kelly, and Zorn seems to think that it is worth keeping him around. There must be something about him and his ability that we do not see, likely because we do not get to watch practice, but Zorn sees it. I am not sold on Kelly myself just yet, but I am developing a strong trust in Zorn. I will take Zorn's word on Kelly for now.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
zorn says that they are going to reevaluate kelley during the bye week, and if things are no better,he's going on IR.
|
Re: Who is available to replace Kelly?
How about Joe Horn.
He might be able to come in and make a few plays if needed. Granted he is old but he may pick up the system quickly given that he is a veteran... |
