Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

Hall Agrees to One-Year Deal with Skins

Free-agent corner DeAngelo Hall has agreed to a one-year deal with the Redskins, according to a source.
Hall, a two-time Pro Bowler, was released by Oakland this week and cleared waivers. With Hall, a Virginia Tech product and Chesapeake, Va., native, signing here, corner Shawn Springs could end up playing more at safety. The Redskins lack depth at free safety, and by moving Springs back there, LaRon Landry would be free to wreak more havoc near the line of scrimmage both in the run game and as a blitzer (Washington;s pass rush has been weak and often blitzing linebackers and defensive backs have failed to get to the passer).

Great job agian by our FO. Lets hope Halls last 2 years have been humbling for him, and he brings a good work ethic to the team.

It's too early to say if this move is good for us or not, however I don't think it is mistake for FO to make this move.. After all it is just one year contract..

It's interesting to hear that Springs might play at safety.. I don't think that would be good news, since Horton is blossoming and continues to do so..

Hall didn't seem be too interested in playing football while at Oakland. The article I read on his performance indicated he wasn't covering guys too well.

I'm hoping he turns into our Randy Moss.

Oakland is a graveyard for so many NFL careers.

I'll take a wait and see approach with this move. I'm not a hall fan. I know we could use the help with all the woes/injuries with SS at Corner.

But I just hope they got him at a good price AND he is ready to grow up. And also turn his career around and be a decent corner in this league, I have my doubts.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

Hall was getting burned to a crisp in Oakland. I'm gonna go on the record and state that I do not like this move. Hall's ego is twice as big as his talent, and he's always been overrated imo. If he sees the field we wouldn't even have to worry about Rogers being targeted because teams would automatically start picking on Hall.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

The idea of Springs moving to Safety still doesn't sit well with me though. I thought that Horton was doing a pretty good job back there. Our dime package should be pretty nasty regardless.

I am happy we got him, but now I want to see what we are going to do scheme wise.

The good news is that we only have to pay for one season to see if he works out or not. Say he plays great, we should be able to get him for a reasonable contract or just cut his ass like Oakland.

Personally I doubt Horton would get bumped for Springs at safety. We'll see how it goes.

I think what'll happen is we'll see more of Hall in nickel packages and if anything he would be great in a dime package.

We're probably gonna start putting Springs at safety in the Cobra package with Landry and Horton.

I think Horton is in the position he will be in for the future. SS on the other hand as I have stated many times I do believe this will be his last season not only with the team, but in the league.

I think that's the idea so Landry could blitz and come up to the line more without sacrificing coverage with Springs back there. I'll be surprised if Hall gives us much but I'll be very happy if he does.

For what it is worth, PFT says it is the same $1 million he would have gotten in Oakland if he had waived the guaranteed bonuses. That works out to a $562,500 rental for seven games. I guess you could look at him as relatively cheap depth if Springs struggles to come back from injury. I guess it could also allow them to push Springs to safety in a pinch (or in the Cobra package) but he was playing very well at corner prior to his injury (and significantly better than Hall). I also don't even see Hall coming right in an getting playing time over Smoot (which is saying something). Hopefully he can return punts and play the good soldier for a couple of months.

$492,000 is what he's getting according to ESPN.

I just read that, thanks. Prorated at 1 million if thats so your math is off a bit. If he can produce, thats a heck of a deal. 'IF'

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that cornerback DeAngelo Hall has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins.
We’ve confirmed the news, and we’re told that it’s for the same prorated $1 million salary he would have received if he had stayed in Oakland.
We’re also told that the contract contains a commitment that the Redskins won’t use the franchise tag on Hall in 2009.
His selection of the Redskins resulted in part from the fact he grew up close to Washington, and that he was a Redskins fan while growing up.
Hall spent a lot of time talking with defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, and Hall likes the team’s extensive use of press coverage.
So, in the end, he’ll make the same amount he would have made in Oakland if he’d agreed to waive the injury guarantee applicable to the $16.5 million in 2009 bonus money and salary. And he’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
And he’s playing for a 6-3 team that is competing for a playoff berth.

Well, he returned punts at Tech. He has returned a total of 13 punts in his NFL career (8 in 2005, 5 in 2007) for a total of 123 yards and 0 touchdowns.

I voted yes in the poll, but now that he is coming here, I hope he doesn't bring down the locker room. Our dbs are a tight group, don't want him to disrupt that.

Any word on how we are making room for him??

I really don't like this move. Total headcase and we all know he's good for a few 15 yard personal fouls or unsportsmanlike conduct's. But at least the FO didn't break the bank for this cancer.

Springs is still pretty friggin phenomenal when healthy, which he should be for the Dallas game. I'd say Hall plays in some nickel and dime packages at first, nothing more just yet.

Anyone know what number he plans on wearing? Because it sure as shit isn't gonna be 21.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

I'm ok with this since its only a one-year deal, so we haven't really committed anything to him. He can provide solid depth and it lets Springs play safety over Kareem Moore if Horton gets hurt again.

He wore 23 in Oakland and that number is open so I would imagine he'll where it here too.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

This move is for depth this year, but basically a try-n-buy for the Skins. Springs won't be here next year so for the $$$ this is a good move. If Hall pans out, we've got a solid CB for reasonable money. If not, we haven't lost any future cap space and can just cut him loose.

PSUSkinsFan21 11-07-2008 03:20 PM

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

Love the move because 1. you can't have too much depth in the secondary (what happens if Rogers or Landry or Horton get injured?), 2. he's got some talent, 3. he came cheap and with no long-term consequence if he doesn't play well, and most importantly: 4. he doesn't have enough status in this locker room to be a cancer. If he starts acting up or causing problems the skins will just cut him loose and be no worse for the wear. It's not like we just married the guy by giving him a 7-year deal or giving up a 2nd round draft pick for him (see dumb-ass Oakland). If he plays well, we can talk about making it a long-term relationship (and let's face it, he knows he needs to behave because this just became a "contract year" for him). If he's a turd, he's a turd that can be flushed down the toilette with no cap consequence. Good move all around IMO.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

If he plays well he'll hit the market next year and get all he can, thats why the Skins had to agree not to Franchise tag him.

I imagine once he passes the physical tomorrow, they'll put out a release stating how they are adding Hall to the roster. My guess at this point is Kelly to the IR, or releasing Tryon...
