Are you past the Steelers Game?
Is anyone else having a damn hard time letting the Steelers game go? It's bugged the hell out of me all week, I thought watching some ball this weekend would help me get passed it but I still can't. Here's what I keep thinking about:
1) Pitt is good but not great. Both NY and Philly dominated them, and IMO those are the best teams Pitt has faced. Looking at their schedule I see a lot of shitty teams they beat... so they win the games their supposed to but I will argue till I'm blue in the face Pitt is not a great team. 2) We lost in such ugly fashion. I know the score wasn't as absurd but Monday night felt a lot like the Pats last year. Just fucking dominated. And I hate it. Wouldn't get under my skin so much if I thought we didn't have the talent, but again I'll argue till I'm blue in the face we are a more talented football team than the Steelers. 3) And this is the big reason I can't stop obsessing... it feels like a defining point for us. An opposing defense utterly shut us down. They anticipated our calls. They were more physical. They highlighted our weaknesses over and again... meaning the tape exists for the next 7 teams we face to see exactly what worked and will work going forward. That is unless the offense gets more dynamic. (I'm not worried about the defense - a few busted plays against Pitt but I bet we'll stay the 4th best d for the remainder of the season and maybe even move up). How the offense responds is key IMHO. It can't be more of the same: strong rushing w/ some short/medium underneath passes worked in. Some say we need more of the long ball and I think there's merit to that. After all, we've got a QB who can hurl the long bomb farther than any other in football and a guy who can outrun the defense on any given play. We've also got the league's MVP tailback who has shown great hands and quickness when given the opportunity. And... we've yet to work our heralded but unproductive rookie weapons into the mix. Why Fred Davis, a pass catching TE, if there was no plan to run two TE sets in which either/both guys can break loose for open catches underneath. And why can't a 6 foot 2 speedster phenom get the fuck open more than once a game! We should be scoring 30+ points a game, no? I'm not bashing guys. I'm frustrated. Do we come out and turn heads the last seven games (does Zorn turn it up on offense), or do we see more of the same? |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
no worries man, i have your same thoughts...its hard to deal with but something we got to get over and move on to the next one. I hope the redskins are past it and get ready for dallas next week

Its like crying over spilled milk, can't do a damn thing about it! They were the better team Monday night thats for damn sure. You are what you are! I'm focused on the pukes, thats the next game. And I hope that dirty taste in the teams mouth after that awful performance that had to sit there for 2 weeks just makes it really bad on the pukes, we need this NEXT GAME. Who gives two shits about the last one its in the books! MOVE ON! |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
Yeah man we have to consider all the injuries, Samuels and Moss probly should'nt have played but they showed guts unlike someone else on our team. Anyway, they were better than us monday, But that could've only been a bad game, And most of the rest of the league does'nt have their D. so no worries. Zorn has said this is a slow process he said in seattle it took 3 years so we have to be ahead of schedule.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
yeah, this game has lingered for me, mainly because of the offensive woefulness. I am thinking more about next week's game though. I am really nervous, because our offense just hasn't gotten into endzone.

But atleast 3 of the teams we have left to face, NY, Philly, and Baltimore all have that same type of D. I hope Zorn and crew reviewed alot of tape last week! We are now in the stretch run, and being tired/hurt will be the case for every team every week. |

I really have hard time letting games go when we clearly outplay or play right on the same level as someone else all game and than find some way to screw it up at the end (pretty much all the games we lost last year except for New England)....if a team just is plain better on that night, I dont really have much trouble with it. Pittsburgh clearly outplayed us on monday, deserved to win, so I was pretty much over it by Wensday. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I'm way past it.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
Whipping Dallas's ass would certainly cure any ills I may have about the last game.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I'm still upset about it, but I have faith that Zorn and crew will work out the kinks and try to make things better while the team is off so that we can adjust and come out with new life after the bye. Right now it is on the offense. The defense can keep us in games but the offense has to do their part.

I just got over it NOW! Colts just defeated the steelers. That makes me feel gooooood

they won with 14 points off turnovers :( makes me mope more. (ok not really, but still shows how critical those picks can be) |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I been past it. I'm so ready for Dallas!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
The team that lost to Pitt was a tired team. You heard it in the interviews in Detroit the prior week and in the post game interviews. They played tough but just didn't have enough gas in the tank.
I have a feeling that "redemption" is a theme being tossed around a lot this week. |

R we talking about Springs here? Not sure what to make of him. Last year he seemed to pride himself on staying healthy or playing through injury, maybe as a way to justify his separate fitness regimen and whatnot. This year... he's either being a princess or his body is just wearing way down. Probably time to cut him unless he'll finally take a substantial pay cut just to stay on for depth @ corner/safety. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I think whats going to define our season is if our passing game can make enough plays -- That depends on Moss's hamstring, Campbell's arm, and maybe a rookie (Thomas, Davis, Kelly) to step up as a consistent receiver...
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
Well overall I'm impressed so many have put this one to rest. Not like this is my first rodeo - been all Redskin since '91. Just some games really mess w/ me. Like I said, NE was last year's.

Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
... St. Louis in '06, mostly from the Betts fumble when he was running like a pro-bowler.
...playoff loss to Seattle in '05. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
The Steelers game stings worse this weekend because the Falcons won and now are tied with us in the wild card race, and the Colts showed that the Steelers D is vulnerable.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I'm definitely over it, and ready for bigger and better things. We had a bad game... they dominated us (fans outdid us as well too :( ) but I'm ready for this cowgirls game.
WE WILL DOMINATE THEM! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAWRR. |
... St. Louis in '06, mostly from the Betts fumble when he was running like a pro-bowler.
...playoff loss to Seattle in '05.
Let it go Goat...let it go. I'm definitely concerned about our long passing game, but we knew we'd lose a few. If even ONE of the 3 step up, (Thomas, Kelly, Davis) we should be alright. I HATED losing to Pittsburgh, but the show goes on. If we go deep into the playoffs it won't even matter. The past scares me but we have new leadership and hopefully a new destiny. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I was over it the next day - I'll be far more concerned if we lose to Dallas. If we're gonna lose, better to lose out of division. Regarding the rookie receiving weapons, I've all but given up on Thomas or Kelly contributing this season. Thomas can't seem to get on the same page with Campbell (running poor routes) and Kelly can't get on the field. Meanwhile, Desean Jackson and Eddie Royal continue to look GREAT in the WCO. I'm holding out hope for Davis, who I believe could add a lot to this offense in Yoder's spot.

It's not just the dirty birds - the NFC south is shaping up to be the NFC east of '07. Carolina is 7-2 and TB and Atlanta are 6-3. Both TB and Atlanta have easy, easy schedules ahead. I won't be surprised if they both end the season 12-4 or 11-5. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
The panthers schedule is a cakewalk outside the Giants and possibly TB, but expect Carolina to finish out 13-3 and win the division.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I'm past the Steelers game in that I'm not crying over the loss. I am a bit nervous though about our offense, which hasn't looked very good over the past month. In the wins against the Lions and Browns and the losses against the Rams and Steelers, our offense has looked out of sync. We've put together decent drives and have run the ball very well, but we haven't put up the points that I would expect to see from a top 10 offense (which is what we are in terms of yardage). If our offense has another poor outing next week, I'll be pretty concerned.
On a brighter note, our defense has looked quite good. I must say, I am very surprised and impressed with what Blache has done with our defense. It's not a world class defense, but it's one that's good enough to win games. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
We have looked out of sync. Maybe we can fix that during the break. I know the coaches are going to study film and find out what works, what does'nt, and why.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I hope the team doesn't forget the Steelers game, b/c they need to improve big time. The Cowboys are going to be desperate, and now that the Iggles lost, they are too going to be desperate for a win. The Giants are for real, I have been criticizing them for having a weak schedule, but they have beaten the Steelers (who whopped on us) and they just beat Philly at their home. The Giants control their own destiny now, our team on the other hand needs to play flawless football and catch a few breaks (i.e. Giants losing). If we keep playing mediocre football, we are either going to end up again in 6th place in the playoff bracket or even worst, not make them at all.

Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I am more upset about the loss to the RAMS than I am about the loss to the Steelers. The steelers loss doesn't have an immediate impact on the playoff chase. They are an AFC team, the loss to the RAMS has worse implications to our playoff chase. But what is done is done, now we need to beat the hell out of a reeling dallas team!!
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
Wow I am so past it.
|
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
We need to get healthy soon. Without Moss 100% we are not a good offensive team period. The Dallas game is now a must win for the most part. Philly lost tonight and Dallas might be due for a win on Sunday night. A loss to Dallas puts us at their level in the division, and would give the Gmen a huge advantage in winning the division crown. Also, a loss would put us a game back in the wildcard race with the teams from the NFC South. Tampa Bay and Atlanta both have the same record as us and will surely pass us for the wildcard spots if we end up 9-7. Both Atlanta and TB are playing good sound ball on both sides. Ryan is looking like the real deal!

Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
I don't sweat the small things, but yeah, to an extent the loss still hurts more than say, the St. Louis game. A lot of that has to do with the timing of the bye week.
We're pretty clearly a better team than Pittsburgh. I mean, people talk about the Ravens being a one dimensional team, but their offense is way stronger than the Steelers' this year. I think they got pretty lucky when Ben got hurt, but outside of that, their matchups on defense against our offense favor them heavily. I don't think the outcome of the second half would have been any different if the same players played it again five more times. I just take solice in the fact that we were dominating them for 28 minutes, until a blocked punt put us behind at half. |
Re: Are you past the Steelers Game?
9-7 isnt going to cut it this year. We are going to need to win 5 of our last 7 games to get into the playoffs, There is an outside change that 10-6 might work but I wouldn't bet on it.

They just sacked our qb 7 times, shut down Portis, held our offense to 6 points and they basically gave us those points and they won at our place 23-6. They also were missing starters. |

All the stats in the world won't make me feel better about being held to two FGs at home by a superior defense on national TV. I guess I'm not past the Steelers game yet. A regular season sweep of Dallas would cure all that ails me, that's for sure. :) |

I feel you on the Wednesday recovery for my stomach. As the game regressed, i kept ordering more shots of absolute. My Bears loving friend wanted to talk to me about it on Tuesday. I told him that not only was i not prepared to discuss it, but if he insisted on bringing it up, that i'd level him. I gave him the seldom used against friends, parenting death look. He got the message, but called me an asshole. haha, i guess i am. |

I told that guy when I sold him my tickets to not swing his towel in the face of people sitting around him. |
