Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
This would be a huge blow to the team if CP can't go. I hope he improves as the weeks continues.
Posted at 2:55 PM ET, 11/10/2008 Zorn: Portis 50-50 for Sunday Clinton Portis is questionable at this point and his chances of facing Dallas on Sunday are "50-50," Coach Jim Zorn said after practice today. Portis has a knee sprain that has worsened since the team last played Nov. 3. Zorn remains optimistic that Portis will play, but conceded that "it would be a major issue for all of us," if he cannot. Zorn said that second-string back Ladell Betts may be back from his knee injury for Sunday's game, but that he is not "expecting" that result. |

Practice: Moss, Springs, Betts, Others in Skicaps From Jason La Canfora: Practice has begun and Clinton Portis is not on the field. Santana Moss, Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Anthony Montgomery and Ladell Betts are wearing skicaps, not helmets, and are limited at best. In fact, Montrgoemery isn't even in pads. We do not see Todd Collins, either. Malcolm Kelly and Jason Taylor are in full equipment. Jim Zorn will give an update after practice. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
We've still got a week and lot's of possibilities. LB and CP are questionable, time for SA and RC to earn their keep.
The one thing that scares me is CP's pass blocking. I don't think we can duplicate that w/ any of our backs. We need him in there. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
Oh no. I didn't even know CP sprained his knee against Pitt. It's still Monday though. If all these guys aren't practicing on Thursday I'll be a lot more concerned.

if portis does'nt play, the skins will lose.

Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
CP is an extremely tough dude. Clinton will play this Sunday.

Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
I have a friend who is a personal trainer and has his Master's in physiology and kinesiology. He works part-time with Redskins- primarliy in the weight room on Monday/Tuesday lifting sessions. I'll see him later tonight. If I can get any inside info on Clinton's knee, I'll post it here.

OMGOMGOMGOMG the sky is falling!!! AHHHHHH!!!!
(seriously though, if he can't play we're F'd in the A) |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
Wow....I remember that one play where he looked like he got hurt. But he came back the next series and appeared to be ok. Guess not.
Shit....well....hope Alexander is ready to pound away? |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
It's not the end of the world if Portis can't go. Pittsburgh beat us with their back-up QB, two starters out on their o-line and a banged up Willie Parker. Everyone has injuries and that's why we have Betts, Rock and Alexander.

I'm not so sure Betts is going to be ready. Huge drop off to Alexander and Rock if you have to go with #3 RB's. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
If in fact CP is a no go this weekend, there is just no way that betts can just come in after being out for a Month and pick up were CP left off. I don't think its impossible to win without CP. IF we were without Santana than I would say we would have no chance.
|
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
We'll be cool. Rock and Alexander are just guys, but we should have a passing gameplan anyway, considering the strength of their front seven and the weakness of their secondary. (seriously)
Rock and Alexander can carry the rock, if one of them gets knicked then I guess Sellers would love to show us he can play HB. Soon betts will be back. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
To early in the week to say who's in or who's out.

I admit that losing CP would be a very serious blow. But...have some faith, folks! There are other ways that ball games can be won! Good teams find ways to overcome injuries. Let's see just how good our team is if CP can't play. |

Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
Man, this is not good. All of our injured ppl were supposed to get healthy this bye week, and now one of our top guys is injured. Well the passing offense better step it up big time, so does our defense. One of the reasons we've been able to win close games, is b/c we've controlled the clock towards the end and our defense has been able to hold. At this point, I would say that we need for SA and Rock to just hold on to the ball and manage the running game. Our WRs need to get open, the o-line needs to protect Jason, and he needs to make good decisions in the passing game. Our defense needs to step it up to the next level, hold on to those INTs, and harrass the Cowpokes.

Dude better play, we need him.
Yes we do. As I don't put all my cash in the cheap buy. It doesn't sound great right now, as we know that can change its early in the week. He has 6 days to get healed up. But we need a healthy CP in this game, to be successful with the ground attack, which happens to be very important. LB if ready will IMO be not very effective. SA and Rock...enough said. We are heading down the stretch run, we NEED a healthy CP. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
No doubt in my mind that Portis will play.
We need him to beat Dallas. We can get away in Seattle on Jason Campbell's arm, but he's got to play in this one. I understand it's worse on Monday, but 6 days from now, I can't imagine it won't be better. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
I'd like to know when this injury occurred? I've been pretty happy with zorn but he blew it last week,I was screaming bloody murder at him at the end of the game last week, there was no reason for the starters to still be in there with 3 minutes left trying to score a meaningless td,there was a play in the last 3 minutes where Portis was tackled on the sideline, looked kind of like a horsecollar tackle and he got bent back very awkwardly and i thought for sure he was hurt,I'd bet it happened on that play.
If Alexander is our starter our def better come up big,I'd rather have Sellars start than Alexander |

We are always banged up badly. Romo coming back probably and CP out along with Springs and Moss and you got trouble. Sorry guys, but if we can't field our starters for our divisional games the rest of the way I can see us experiencing a second half collapse and missing the wildcard. TB and Atlanta are really playing solid ball. Unlike JC, Ryan gets the ball into the endzone on a regular basis, and the Hawks have a nice dual back thing going as well. TB is pretty solid also on both sides of the ball. I am feeling a 9-7 or 8-8 season coming on if we don't get healthy. I thought the bye would have been just the thing for that. I just hope this is some sort of psyche job on Zorn's part. |

Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
Clinton is not going to sit himself due to a knee. I think the coaches will have to take his helmet and cleats for him not to play. Even then they'll have to assign someone to grab him when he tries to run on the field with bare feet, and no helmet. No way CP doesn't start this game.

I think Zorn is crafty when it comes to injuries. Remember a few weeks ago when, all of a sudden on game day, Samuels was hurt? Zorn was withholding information. In the case of Portis, I think the team did not talk about his injury too much before for a reason. And, given this craftiness, I would not be surprised if Portis is healthier than advertised, just so Zorn can mess with the Cowboys's heads. |

is'nt betts still on the roster since he is'nt on tthe IRlist? |

What are you all worried for? Don't we have a "Two Time Pro Bowler"? We'll be fine. unless you all are conceding we should have kept Mason......lol.

Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
If CP doesn't play, it will big a BIG drop off BUT even if it's just Rock and Alexander we will be okay. They are as good or better than any number of RB tandems out there.

If Alexander is our starter our def better come up big,I'd rather have Sellars start than Alexander
With you 100% htown, and I'm surprised others haven't said the same thing. Alexander is a dud and I don't think Rock can carry the game. I see a killer opportunity to mix things up w/ Sellers and Rock trading out. If the cowboys think tackling B Jacobs is a bitch what will they do against a bigger, stronger Sellers? Bottom line is this game is an absolute must win - sure Zorn doesn't want to risk injury to our star fullback to win a single game but 1) Sellers has proven very durable 2) a loss right now will put us out of the wild card spot and in the position of fighting our way back. Sellers should get some opportunities and if things seem to be working let him beat the shit out of the Dallas LB corp. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
Portis needs to play to reclaim that leading rusher title! Huge blow if he can't go, but we should still be able to pull out a victory without him.

Maybe, but if Santana can't go, the double whammy on the offensive side of the ball will potentially kill us. We looked good in Detroit(I was there), but couldn't punch it in. At home vs Pittsburgh we just got our ass kicked without Santana in their as another threat. I hope Hall is ready to replace Springs or we have the potential to get torched. With Romo coming back probably, the Boys will be jacked up for what amounts to a must win for them. |
Re: Clinton Portis 50/50 for the Dallas game, injury updates
This news SUCKS...I hope it is BS!
As someone else stated, its pretty simple...If Portis doesn't play, we lose. Portis better tough it out this week at least, and Betts better get his butt fixed fast cause Alexander and Rock aint gunna get more than 50. I hope Im wrong, but without Portis, all they have to do is double Santana. Remember a couple years back when beating Dallas was a Cooley show? I hope Buges mentions this to Zorn cause hes our only healthy offensive threat right now. |
