Tony Romo

Hey guys I know it's a redskins board and we love to trash talk the other teams player and everything but I read this report on Romo and I wanted to get away of football for a second and show you the human factor.

The other things that makes Romo truly great; this is the second story that has came out of romo this year and on both ocassions he did this things without reporting it to the media or anything it's just the way he is I'm sure there are more but those stories are the ones that the persons being help by him have reported.
A homeless man who goes by Doc was cashing in change at a Cinemark theater in Dallas when a guy walked up and offered to pay his way into the movie. Doc, who planned to spend his day passing out flyers for a few bucks, accepted a rain check before realizing that he recognized the generous gentleman.
"Was that Tony Romo?" Doc asked the kid behind the counter.
It sure was. Doc hustled across the street to the consignment store that paid him to occasionally pass out flyers and requested the day off. By the time he got back to the theater, "Role Model" had already started.
Romo, who confirmed the story but didn't want to elaborate, waved Doc over to sit by him and his buddy. Doc sheepishly mentioned that he hadn't showered in a few days.
"Don't worry about that," Romo said. "I'm used to locker rooms."

And so the $67 million quarterback and a man who doesn't have $6.70 to his name sat next to each other and shared laughs for 90 minutes or so.
For Romo, who made news by changing a couple's tire on the side of the road on the way home the night of the season opener, it was just another kind gesture to a random stranger. It meant the world to Doc.
"For me, it was a blessing," Doc said. "It came at just the right time. It gave me some encouragement and faith in mankind. I just wanted to say thank you."

Tony Romo sounds like he is a class act. Maybe he should rub up against Pacman and some of the other cowboy standouts so he could give them a little class.

Good for him. I don't think anyone on this site ever said he's a bad dude. But he's the playboy QB of our arch-rival. I'm glad he's a good guy. But whenever he's got that blue star on his head, I hate him.

Wow a story of a guy talking to another guy who he did not know. Thats so special and Romo is so special that I just don't know what to do. He probably called the press about both of those stories to boast his ego. I'm sure sports people do this all the time but its funny how his are the ones that get "called in by a stranger". Please.

Matty do we really have to let a thread like this stay up on the site. You close threads about dumb skins stuff and this is a dumb Romo homo thread. Don't just lock the thread put it locked somewhere else.

Romo's not a complete douche bag. YAAAAAAYYYYY!!! Are you kidding me? I have friends who are pretty well off and do wonderful things for people but you don't see me starting threads about them. What is so special about an athlete with millions of dollars buying someone a movie ticket? I would think someone without much to give, but giving anyway would be a bigger story. I'm sure there are people on this board who have helped their fellow man. Isn't that what you're suppose to do?

Nice story, but like Matty says it's not an uncommon story. I think we can cut D'Boyz a little slack though. He's not like those weak Cowboys fans who only show up when it's convenient to them and run and hide when the Cowboys lose to the Redskins...Bunker Jane, I'm looking in your direction.

I remember last year this time + 7 days, it was Dallas Cowboy fans (not Giants, certainly not Philly) who were the FIRST to step on Warpath to offer their sympathies and condolences after the death of Sean Taylor. They posted his picture on their fan website. It's the class of this rivalry, so for that, I say let 'em post an article once in awhile about their team. Puh-leeze, we'd all be warm & fuzzy too if Chris Cooley helped an old lady cross the street. Fans get off on stuff like this.

Alright, kumbayah moment over...check out this archive. Hang on at least 'til 3 min, 40 secs. It's what I want for Romo (sorry old poor man at the movies), what I hope for our pass rush, how loud we fans need to be!)

I'd bet we can find a TON more stories about Redskins players doing great/nice/respectable things off the field than Dallas players with criminal records as long as Snyder's bank statements.

Do we go to a Cowboys fan site and post them up? No. Why? That would be stupid to do.

I agree Matty, but the reality is that this is big news for the Boys because of all their other 'characters' on the team. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones himself leaked this to the paper to try and get some good news and feeling about the Boys to try and get people to forget about the fact he is giving Pacman another shot.

I'm not sure why a homeless dude was trying to go see a movie, though. I took my kids to see a movie a couple weeks ago. $10 popcorns and $7 sodas turned it into a $100 affair pretty quickly.

If I can't afford it as a family with 4 sources of income, how the hell does a homeless guy justify it? Dude you need a home. Stop spending your money on movies! That's why you're homeless!

The story says he was cashing in change. So I don't know if that means he really wasn't going to the movie, but he was just turning in coins for some bills. Not sure if this is the case, just how I interpreted the story. And not sure if Romo then bought him a ticket for later since it says he took a rain check or if the homeless guy actually paid to get in once he realized it was Romo. None of this was very clear to me. I mean the guy could have bought his own ticket to go see Romo and Romo really didn't do anything for him.

I reread the story myself and you have a point. It doesn't say that Romo actually bought the ticket for the guy. Looks like he just ran over to the consignment shop, asked for the day off, ran back over, bought a ticket and sat with Romo.

Okay, you let a homeless dude sit by you. Let me applaud you for that, but people do that everyday. (i.e. try taking public transportation)

That IS hilarious! Thanks tony romo for inspiring so much hope in doc (one of the few homeless guys with a job) that he felt it neccessary to take the day off work and spend his time (and money from what I gather) watching a movie with you. Hell you've inspired me to neglect paying income taxes next year so I can afford season tickets!

Re: Tony Romo

It really does not matter if the name is Tony Romo, Clinton Portis or Jo-Jo the dogfaced boy, it is just plain good to hear celebrity giving back and not expecting anything in return. Period.

Sure many big name players have thier "charities" or "foundations" that are named after them, but they do get something back in the huge tax break they get.

But to hear about players that do little things like this is just plain refreshing to see. No matter what uniform they wear. Romo is the same guy that stopped on a busy Dallas highway and changed a flat tire for an elderly couple that was stranded. He also just made a spur-of-the-moment cameo appearance at a Dallas High School Football teams pep-rally (he also took his good friend Will Smith with him).

Lots of players do these things, and I am with the majority when I say that we need to hear more about the good things that happen (like this) and not the bad things (like Pacman Jones or Larry Johnson).

I am a 25 year retired veteran and was asked to speak at a local school here to the students on Veterans Day, and that is just the message I brought to them. That for every bad thing they hear on the evening news about Iraq and Afghanistan, there are 100 good things that are military men and women are doing that you don't hear about.

Would I have started this thread on a rival board? Probably not, but giving D'BOYZ his due, these things are good to hear none-the-less.

No one is doubting he's a class act. No one is doubting he has compassion. No one is doubting he has talent cause if he didn't he wouldn't be in the NFL. No one is doubting his name Tony Romo is to close to Homo, which if I were him I would change my name. We just hate the Cowboys and anything associated. Unfortunatly ...he's associated. ;)

Like others have said....other players with other teams have done just as much if not more for the local citizens. How come the Dallas fans aren't on Pac-Mans jock? I mean he was trying to put college girls through college. lol.

I don't even think it's debatable- Pacman will F-up again, and Jerry will continue to look foolish for this. I just don't understand. Short of a few nice punt returns in Tennessee, what the hell has this loser done anyway?

Kudos to TRomo. Having said that, this is a retarded thread. A man who could never imagine living off of 6.50 a day, took a man to the movies. So compassionate. Incredible. BS. Sorry, You want to say someone did something for someone, let him do something then. He has 6.5 MILLION Dollars. Let's say the Govt takes half. That's 3.25 MILLION Dollars left. I don't care what uniform he wears either. Taking a guy to a $10 (no million behind that) movie is something he could do EVERY day and not notice it. I would be impressed if he took Doc in (not every one, but just one person) helped him clean up, give him a hand up, get him going, regardless of what it takes, then I will admire an athlete.
But taking a man to a movie. gosh what an awesome guy.

Please note I am not saying that TRomo has to do all that, or that because he makes so much he is obligated to do anything. It just isn't a feel good story to me.

Just runnig a foundation or charity does not give you a tax break. It does usually running without paying taxes but you only get a tax break if you donate money and you cannot write off donated time.

Its not that DBoyz posted it here its the timing of posting.
