Suisham?
I understand completely there are bigger problems than our kicking game and a good win in Seattle even though both the O-line and D-line really have to step up in the next few weeks. However, what is going on with Suisham he was short on a 43 yarder today? He also was short on a field goal against Dallas. At the beginning of the season he was booting nice kickoffs and now I'm seeing shorter and shorter kickoffs by him. I'm sure you guys have all noticed naturally but wow short on a 43 yarder as a professional kicker? Not to promising..
|
Re: Suisham?
His leg is kicked out from all the FG attempts because we can't get into the endzone. I'm kidding. It really is strange because he was kicking farther than he ever has the first few games. It's puzzling to say the least.

Re: Suisham?
Colder weather = ball doesn't travel as far?
In all reality I'm sure he'll be fine, if we capitalized better in the end zone we wouldn't even notice his rare misses |

Plus Phil Dawson nailed a 55 yarder in cold weather last week. No excuse for being short on a 43 yard FG. I don't think I've ever seen that in the NFL. |
Re: Suisham?
He kicked less this off-season to save some leg for the season, hence the better leg strength earlier this year. Now he is wearing down as apparently is norm al for him. Now why he missed a 43 yaredr short? I have no idea. Maybe it was just a miss hit.

Re: Suisham?
Clearly sand in the vagina makes it very difficult to follow through while kicking - from what my wife tells me it feels like... well like sand in the vagina.

Re: Suisham?
I've noticed it as well. Some good theories though. Wear and tear....but he is not kicking all that much. Cold weather....other kickers are doing fine and Squeaze is not. The only thing I can think of that sets the last year and this year apart is possibly the holder. I for one think a QB should be holding incase the ball is hiked wrong or they wish to throw in a gadget play. I don't like the fact that we are using a punter to hold the ball.
|
Re: Suisham?
So if were down by 2 points with 5 seconds left in the game at the opponents 27 yard line do we kick a 44 yarder or throw in the end zone for the win. I'm kiddind of course,
but thats how i feel about Suisham latetly. |
Re: Suisham?
We recieved the ball so Seattle got to pick which side to defend. It is possible that the wind was against him while kicking in that direction. With a mixture of cold and not getting all of the ball, I can see him hitting the crossbar. Of course it is all theory, I do not know what really happened.
I am not worried though it's not like he is missing 20-40 yard field goals or extra points on a regular basis. In all honesty I fault the offense for not getting closer or scoring a touchdown. I will take the win and be happy...for now. |
Re: Suisham?
Maybe he's in a slump, or maybe he has a pull or something, but he has definitely earned some forgiveness from the fans; he's been consistent enough to help the Skins win games, and he hasn't contributed in any losses. I am perfectly content with him.

Re: Suisham?
there really isnt an excuse for missing short on 40 something yard field goals in back to back weeks. a kick from 43 should never be short, from what i saw there wasnt even any wind
|
Re: Suisham?
I thought in the dallas game he had an excuse because of the wind, but 2 weeks in a row is very bad, theres no way he should be short on a 43 yarder,he's def got something wrong with him, lets hope he gets it straightened out
|
Re: Suisham?
The kicking game has killed us since Chip Lohmiller(sp)!! I'm always a nervous wreck everytime we line up for a FG regardless of the distance. This is something we need to go out and address in the offseason along with the D and O line!
|
Re: Suisham?
Seems like he's good for at least one odd kind of miss every week, but overall he's solid. We could do a lot worse.

Competition is good.

Re: Suisham?
I'm not happy with Suisham. The official story seems to be that he had trouble kicking in the direction of one part of the stadium where the wind is tricky. Don't think I buy that one. I don't see how his leg could be tired already. You can't count on him to hit anything behind 40 yards now and his kickoffs were dreadful yesterday. Maybe he's injured and hasn't told anyone because he doesn't want to miss any time. In any case, this is a position in need of an upgrade during the offseason. Hopefully, he won't cost us a game before then.

Re: Suisham?
One of the other sites, some one stated that the ball was tipped. Unjure if its true but could be a good explanation. I for one hope that this is the only reason for the one this week.
|
Re: Suisham?
The one kick off he got deep the Sea's had their best return. It almost seems we get better coverage on his shorter kicks.
|
Re: Suisham?
Yep.. well its still troublesome but Matty is right he has been solid i wont argure that and i think we have more to worry about than Suisham but I just was picking up on the fact that the first few games of the season i was shocked on how far he was kicking it on kick offs and now its back to the same ol short kick to the 10 or 15. But lets hope he gets it straightened out. And for an NFL kicker being short from the low 40's is unexceptable. Your getting paid to kick and do nothing else. You go to practice all week and you don't hit or memorize plays except maybe a trick play.. you do what.. you kick haha. Enough said he needs to be better no more cross bar hits.

Re: Suisham?
My man and his boys had this same conversation during the game. They think we need a new kicker. Billy (my man) was the all star kicker in high school. Based on his knowledge, his opinions, and my own two eyes...I have to agree.

Re: Suisham?
Here is my problem with Shuisham, seems the deeper we get int he season, the weaker he becomes. His kick offs are getting rather weak and unimpressive. Wasn't one kicked to the 20 yesterday???

I agree completely. A pro kicker should NEVER be short on a 43 yard kick! I don't care if it's 50 below zero outside. I am not calling for his job but he needs to do better. He's very inconsistent...you never know what's going to come off that foot. |

Your man had a coversation with his boys? |
Re: Suisham?
Yeah I don't think he's the answer.
We need to have competition, but there's no other alternative out there right now. Too bad, because there were some guys available this past free agency. |
Re: Suisham?
This year is worse then past. I think it's the holder. Someone also wrote on another board that the ball came out wrong and hit the dirt on one of the field goals. Now I hear possibly tipped. who knows. I'm just tired of a break down by a different player every possession. If not every play...ie, the Pitt game.

Yeah but, what about the short kickoffs lately. I think the short kickoffs are attributing to the poor kick off coverage. The last few games Shuisham has struggled getting the ball passed the 10 yard line. |

This board is amazing! I had thought about starting a thread on Suisham sometime late this past Sunday. The KO's and the FG's have been a bit short frequently, and this warrants a look-see at FA's on the street, and FA's during the off-season. He might look better against some competition in practice, and hopefully it will improve his game time performance. It can't hurt! Vinnie, are you paying attention? |
Re: Suisham?
I think we're beating a dead horse now, The Goat hit the nail on the head. I asked my girlfriend and she concurs, it IS hard kicking a football with sand in your vagina. Thanks Goat!

Totally agree. not sure why his kicks are landing on the 10 or 15 when he was landing them with in the 5 or through the endzone. |
Re: Suisham?
Maybe him and Frost got along so well because they had so much in common, especially inconsistency. Yet another offseason need...

In all reality I'm sure he'll be fine, if we capitalized better in the end zone we wouldn't even notice his rare misses
Check out Phil Dawson's profile (I had him as a kicker in fantasy, until I read this...)
Nov 25 PK Phil Dawson missed a kick against Houston, his third miss in 27 tries and his first inside 40 yards. Dawson will never use an excuse, but the difficulty of kicking in cold weather in Cleveland cost him that kick, and as conditions get worse, his accuracy could suffer.
Phil Dawson - Cleveland Browns - News - NFL - Yahoo!
