N Y Giants release a Statement

Stolen from the Giant Zone.

Saturday November 29, 2008, 2:29 PM

Here's the Giants' statement, released only a few minutes ago:

"We are aware of the fact that Plaxico was involved in an apparent accidental shooting last night. We have been in contact with Plaxico since shortly after the incident. Plaxico suffered a wound to his right thigh. Obviously, our primary concern is for the douchebags health and well-being, and given the circumstances, we are relieved to say he was released from a New York City hospital at approximately 2 p.m. today. We have been in touch with NFL Security on this matter. At this point, we are attempting to gather all the facts surrounding this incident. This incident could become a matter for law enforcement officials, and because of that, we have no comment on any of the details."

I don't know what kind of legalese in is his contract as far as prohibited behavior, but the Giants gave him a $35M extension right before this season started. I would think cutting him would be a huge hit to their salary cap space for 2009.

yea, i was wondering about that. if they truly want to get rid of him, maybe they could try to trade him.(if there is a team that would take him)

It's a lose-lose situation for the Giants. He's a great talent at a position in which they just don't have that much depth. You can't cut him because of the salary cap, can't trade him unless you're getting another quality WR in return, and who knows if you'll be able to even play him if he gets suspended.

I bet the Giants draft a WR in the first round this year, that's for sure.

You know this is the kind of stuff that pisses me off. You reward a player with a big contract and he pays you back by not coming to practice, being a prima donna, and a total distraction to the team. All contracts should have a behavior clause to keep players from pulling this kind of crap.

Without a doubt, the'll trade him to someone outside the divison for a draft pick but he will never play for New York again...........bank on it!

Too bad the Cowgirls just got R. Williams Giantone, they probably would have given you 12 picks for him. :)

I think a lot of them do. I'm not too well versed on player conduct clauses, but I know there are a lot of behaviors that will void a contract, many of which involve situations where a player knowingly puts themselves in danger of bodily harm. They usually include acitivities like motorcycles/ATVs, skiing, other sports in the offseason, stuff like that. Not sure if sticking a loaded gun down your pants with the safety off is on that list.....

I don't think there is a bigger Giant hater among us than myself but at first report about the shooting with Plaxico coinciding with the Sean Taylor anniversary game I'm just dumbfounded.

I don't think I will ever find peace with Sean's murder.

Somehow we must...but I am stuggling with it myself.

Bengals should trade Chad for him.

I tell you when I first heard he was shot in a club i nearly got sick

not that i'm happy or find it funny, but to realize that it's nowhere near as serious as some of the recent tragedies that our nfl stars have had, i'm relieved

I wonder if we're not getting the full story or he did accidentally discharge on himself

it's not exactly easy to get a concealed weapon permit in nyc either

I think the important thing is to remember that these were and are two very different situations, period!Sean was in his own home protecting his family.Burrass was out nightclubing and was the one with the gun, once I read he was ok .......well yes you have to laugh (or cry) at the amazing stupidity of this man!

Oh I agree definitely, but just reading the headline all that I saw was that he received a gunshot wound in a club.. upon reading I learned differently

though it was "reportedly" his own mistake, that type of situation sucks

sean got shot in the leg too... so no, I won't feel overly bad for plexiglass, but I kinda feel it hard to laugh at, small price to pay though I guess
