Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
I am putting together my Christmas list for Daniel Snyder and need to know what linemen to put on there.

Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Haynesworth of the Titans, I think will be available.

Would love to have him! I will put him on my wish list for The Danny. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
I hear Jason Taylor's going to be available. Maybe we should go after him?
Julius Peppers would be a fun upgrade to Carter, but we'd just try to bump Carter to the left side and be in the exact same situation we are now. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Shane Olivea might be worth a look, even now. Anyone know the extent of his back injury.

Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
I think we need to draft some o-linemen. Even though we can't get any pressure on the qb the defense isn't the problem with this team. We need a RT ASAP.

[quote=Sheriff Gonna Getcha;506296]I thought Peppers played RDE. At least I remember him schooling Jansen a few years back. Andre Carter though is a no doubt above average defensive end against both the run and the pass. So if we signed Peppers, it would be to replace Evans in the lineup, and though they are the same age, it would just be the same type of mistake we make year after year if Peppers disappoints.
We clog the LDE position, probably overpay for the guy, and then the sack production still doesn't significantly improve. Because the problem is interior DL/scheme related (in the sense that pre-snap reads are effective against us, so QBs can get the ball out under pressure). I think the fact that Jason Taylor hasn't improved our sack rate, and has actually forced Carter's sack production to decline is about as solid as evidence gets that personnel at end is not the reason why we can't sack QBs. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Does anyone know what happened to Heyer being our next RT. They loved him, he got hurt and Jansen did well. Now Jansen is doing worst than ever why have'nt we put him back in?

He's a monster... but none of our guys are achieving their potential inside that line. Griffin is usually pretty stout, but he's not what he was 2 years ago and there's really no one else that can cause enough commotion up the middle. Our ends are rushing and the QB has all kinds of room to step up into the pocked because its completely vacant in the middle. |

More hole plugging instead of building from the inside out. Until this changes it will be the same old Skins.

How many first round picks do you think we have. Neither one alone is the answer. That doesn't mean we should go looking for top players. I just wonder about the uncapped year the next year. How does that affect salary cap restructures? Can we bump guys like Marcus Washington's and Randel El's salary down and have it count less for 2009? If it came to it could they be cut and have the dead space they'd count the season after magically vanish because there's no cap in 2010? Will we see guys sign a contract for 1.5 next year, 30 mil in 2010 and 2.5 in 2011? |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Aside from Gross and Haynesworth, both of whom will be very pricey, there aren't any good linemen who will be available this offseason via free agency. We could really use a guy like Haynesworth though. We desperately need a pocket collapsing DT.

Ditto. Prior to this season we kept hearing about the situation @ DE, but between Evans and Carter we've got two above average guys - one who can stop the run very well and the other who can pressure the QB when the other guys on the DL are doing their jobs. DT is the real need. Very frustrating also that Anthony hasn't developed into more. Williams always said he could be an elite DT and by the show of force he puts on every so often I want to believe it. Still... he's not dominating out there. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Let me revise my previous statement. We don't desperately need a pocket collapsing DT, but if we got one, we'd be absolutely dominant on defense.

Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Tank and Haynesworth. What the heck ....find a way to free up money and go for broke. Also pick on someone via draft for the long haul.
|
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Another thing I don't understand ...If Taylor is not getting the job done why are we not utilizing James more or Wilson more?
The problem Zorn had to face with Jansen was he is good in the run and terrible in the pass protection. Heyer is good in pass protection and terrible in the run. So pick your poison. If your whole line is better at running the ball then pass protection then run is your staple so we see Jansen. Besides one man does not make pass protection. Sticking Heyer in would only plug one hole we have on pass protection. |

You say it's his run-blocking and certainly he was poor at that but my guess is there's more to the story. For one thing, we're not running to the right very often anyway, so Jansen's moderate advantage isn't really playing a factor. Again I just think Heyer isn't seen as a starter. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Hanesworth..........PLEASE DAN BREAK THE BANK ON THIS MONSTER, he will be worth it......and keep D-Hall, say goodby to Springs and Smoot, and we need on elite WR, just one to go with Santana, and we should be a top 5 Team and a Good OL in the Draft.....

Haynesworth is one of the few guys I would say would be worth whatever we pay him.

I agree we need a dominent DT to go along with Carter and Evans. Get rid of M. Washington, Re sign D Hall and draft that linebacker from USC.:) |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Andre Smith is a Jr offensive tackle at Alabama. If he declares for the draft, he will be a prize selection for someone.
Michael Oher is a Sr. offensive tackle at Ole Miss. He is an outstanding tackle of the "Jonathon Ogden" variety. Find a way to get one of these dudes... |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
It's depressing me to talk about the skins slide so let's talk a little about the future.
Haynesworth is tops in the NFL at his position. He's going to get a record deal. This is one time where I'd be pretty happy if we spent some bucks. He's a difference maker. If it won't hinder us in the future, i'd say go for it. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
I keep thinking that our line problem on defense is not personel. I think it is bad luck, coaching or scheme. I think that the Oline is a different story, they need players desperately. We need a right tackle, bad. I would like to see the team get rid of some players that have not produced. Like Springs, Griffin, Jansen, Washington, and Randel El. I think they hinder us for one reason or another, such as finacialy(Jansen, Washington, Griffin, Randel El, and Springs), always injured(Jansen, Washington, Griffin, and Springs), and not worth the money we pay them and always underperforming when healthy(Jansen, Washington, Griffin, and Randel El).
I would also like to see them find a way to sign Dre Moore of the Tampa Bay practice Squad. He is huge, had alot of sacks and had one of the best combines of any DT last year. Tampa Bay has alot of talent on the Dline and could not find room for him, this year. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
BL is that we will need to spend some of our highest draft picks and some FA dollars to improve both our OL and DL. We need talent, speed and youth.
Both of our lines are getting old, which causes the deterioration we see later in the season. Last season Vinny went for the flash with 2 WR and a TE. Now we need to go for the trenches and hope the WR we picked this season start to pan out. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
The quick answer is no. Good O and D lineman don't become available until they are no longer good, generally.

There are a lot of D-Lines out there getting a ton more pressure than ours with a lot less talent. I think i read some where that the d-line plays for the run and don't drive to the QB per Blache's choice. I would love a change of direction of the defensive schemes. I know we have a "highly" ranked defense, but do you really think they are one of the best??? |

Maybe some body glitter to attrack the eyes of the OLINE. Than, they can flirt their way past them. |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
Draft, Draft, Draft!!!
I think a lot of people are mistaking a lack of exucution from this team as a lack of talent; I'd argue that we have a fair amount of young talent on this team but we need more, and we need it desperately on the O-line. I think Zorn and the players just need another year to work out the kinks, if our trio from last year can get their s#*+ together and we have a good draft next offseason I think this team will develop into a real contender. Unfortunately we're still going to be duking it out with the likes of DAL and NY, but we're not too far off as it is and if we develop our young talent we could certainly catch up. NY seems to have done a great job drafting the past few years, especially on that D-line, we have to hope we can do the same. That said, Haynesworth is a beast. I'd be totally on board for that move, but even if we do manage to sign him I'd still look to draft DL. IMHO we only really have 3 areas of needs . . . aside from wr, we gotta hope the boys'll pan out, we simply can't justify landing another wr . . . OL, DL, and LB. If we improve just the O-line we're a good team. We improve both OL and DL, we're a very good team; and if this years rooks can finally step up, and contribute ANYTHING we're a great team. Hail to the future!! |

It hasnt been the same since lavar left. EVen tho his numbers werent all pro he was all over the field until lindsay and gibbs ruined him |
Re: Any good free agent O-lineman or D-lineman available for next season?
I think if we signed Jordan Gross and let him play left tackle, we could move Samuels to the Right, extending his career and having an all pro left tackle to back up the left tackle. I think this would dramaticaly improve our Oline, assuming that Samuels can play right tackle.
