Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Offensive LineIt doesn't even need to be said really, it's just sad what's happening with the line. Even Colt Brennan can't solve their problems.
MisonceptionsJust like it's a misconception that Springs misses several games every year, and it's a misconception that players who smile must mean they don't care, it's a misconception that I don't have high expectations of the team and I don't get frustrated. I'm also not going to be knee-jerk and simply say we suck and I can't believe we spent so much money on retreads and then use Andre Reed as an example. This is an average team with plenty of room to grow. It's as simple as that FearI was impressed we had Kelly and Thomas in as our WRs on a key 3rd and 9. I want to see more of that, don't be afraid to put them in pressure situations. They are our future. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Prepare for another week full of misconceptions, bench Campbell talk, fire Vinny talk, blah blah.

We can still make it to the playoffs, blah blah blah. Let's start Colt, blah blah blah. Yup, losses will cause these posts. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Defensive Line played as poorly as I have ever seen a line play. Linebackers are making too many tackles.
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
I just don't know what to do about the O-line...We can't replace them all at once, but they are all inconsistant and old. How does the situation with this team get better before it gets worse?
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Matty I can't imagine anyone advocating JC to the bench after this game (although I know you're right, people will). Tonight, more than any game so far this season, highlighted just how awful the line is and how little Campbell has to work with. I counted three bad throws from him all game, and at least one was under tremendous pressure.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
I have to question Zorn's protection schemes more than anything, or a lack thereof. Plus, losing Samuels and Jansen doesn't help much either. Why isn't Fabini active?

Pretty sure Fabini went back to work full-time as a truck driver :silly: |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
For that matter, where the f is Rhinehart? Wasn't he our 3rd round pick... and yet the guy evidently isn't good enough to dress? On 2nd thought I think I will start calling for Vinny's head once again. Go ahead, call it knee-jerk.
"Whatever, I'll do what I want." |

Rabach and Jansen need to go ASAP. Heyer is just a back-up. |

I do believe the number is either 43 or 45, I'm not entirely sure though. Either way this team has issues. I wish Zorn would just realize offense is nothing without an offensive line and either adjust his protection or make changes on the line. They aren't getting it done anymore and I'm tired of seeing Campbell get no time to throw. That tipped pass by Suggs at the beginning of the game set the tone for what was to come, and it ended up being costly as that was one of Reed's two picks. I feel like the reason we can't be an aggresive offense is simply because our line isn't good enough to give Campbell enough time, we can't keep going 3 wide and just leaving 5 or 6 in to block because that's not good enough. And Campbell also has to do his part and recognize when the defense is overloading on one side, like on that Ray Lewis sack, and either counter it by getting the ball out quicker or adjusting the protection. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Granted it was in garbage time when nothing mattered, but Malcom Kelly did extend his streak of games where a ball hits him in the hands and he drops it.
That's a positive thing to build on - - or not. Someone asked where Rhinehart is/was. He was where he has been for most of the year and that is on the inactive list. For all those folks who were sure that playing Heyer in place of Jansen would solve everything, please note that he was at RT and Samuels was at LT for about half of the game. No fireworks in that time that were noticeable... |

The point is how can our only o-lineman in the draft not be worth the salt to get on the f'ing field? Most of us around here agree the FO has been utterly incompetent when it comes to playing football in the trenches, but where does it leave us when even the lineman we do go out and get mean nothing to team on gameday. I've said it already on other threads and believe it now more than ever, the FO is more or less a joke. Too bad for the franchise and especially the fans that Danny is too insecure or whatever it is to do things the professional way rather than keep some idiot toady around - Vinny. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Rinehart was seen as a bit of a project coming out of school, he didn't play against top notch talent while at Northern Iowa.
Pick Analysis: Rinehart was very impressive at the Senior Bowl and has good strength. He's able to pull and moves well for a guy his size. He may have potential to play tackle as well, but has not played against strong competition so he will need some time to develop. He gives the Redskins depth on the offensive line with a chance to grow into a starter. NFL Events: Draft Player Profiles - Chad Rinehart
To me the bigger question is why isn't a solid veteran like Fabini active? I'd rather see him at RT than Heyer at this point. |

As far as the inactives go, we may see Fabini and Rinehart active next week after the injuries we had tonight. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Thomas didn't look bad tonight.
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
I'm glad to see they're finally going to Thomas. He seems to be stepping up.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Broke a nice tackle... I know that ARE is a small guy but what's up with his little shuffle then fall face down move?
Couple interesting things.. thought that Portis' fumble should've been down on contact, but same thing with the Ravens' RB... Cartwright wasn't down on that kick return, whistle blown early... and when Reed INT'd the ball and held it up after sliding, ARE grabbed the ball, not touching Reed... what's the technical ruling on that? Should that have been a strip?? Not that any of that would've changed the game. We got a lil break on the Campbell fumble since they called it dead once Campbell was wrapped up. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Reed went down on his own, I thought it should have been a live ball and ARE made a smart play. For whatever reasons the officials did'nt see it that way.
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Yeah good question, Reed was down and not touched so the play wasn't over, should have been a strip by ARE the way I see it. Or did the refs blow it dead?
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Good point, that's messed up.

Hey! You forgot! Drink another beer! Drinking beer is very important in these kind of situations! Crud! Maybe you should have one! That way you have an excuse for NOT saying it! :):):) :food-smil |

I thought the line did ok, but I felt like the linebackers were really getting pushed around a lot on the run defense. I thought Rocky was especially getting pushed around. And I've been wondering the same thing about Fabini, Matty |

Yeah, how about lining up Geisinger at left tackle opposite Terrell Suggs, and not giving him some tight end help? |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Coaching staff did a poor job in preparation. We were disorganized. I don't know how many penalties and miscues we had but that showing was abysmal. I expected a loss, but we didn't even look competitive most of that contest.
I know we've played some good teams with great defenses but our offense has backslid since we played St. Louis. This is why some fans get a little dissappointed when we squeak past winless detroit. This is the result of a team that is not prepared to win football games. I wonder what changed and why we completely dominated philly and dallas in those two games and look so bad now? |

The obvious answer is injuries, but that doesn't really work because every team is banged up around this time of year. It just goes with the theme of the day: this organization has not adequately prepared for the future and for depth when these injuries happen. Could also be that we peaked, and we're not as good as we think we are. |

I didn't believe this a few weeks ago but I'm starting to believe the league has a little more on JZ now and his WC offense. |

Well even when Samuels was in the game playing he was letting anybody & everyone around him & come up on Jason's back side. I don't know if his injury was nagging him or what. I've never been a fan and I think he's really not very good! |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Right now Thomas and Kendell are our best linemans.
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
The O-Line looked horrible. Hopefully the injury bug settles down this week and the "best" 5 are ready to roll on Sunday. If not, it's going to be a long 3 weeks for Campbell.
It's hard to lay blame on missing a 48 yarder, however Suisham is on a very cold streak. Even with hitting the 43 yarder later in the game, he's on borrowed time and with Poppin' Fresh, the Skins will be looking both kicker and punter during the offseason. (not that it wasn't obvious before last night) Backfield Pass Blocking was atrocious last night. Both Betts and Sellers whiffed on key drives last night, including on Campbell's first pick. You can certainly tell when Portis is not in there. |

You don't need to replace all of them. If we just brought in 2 good offensive lineman I think it would be a huge improvement. You have to be able to trust your lineman that they can handle someone 1v1. We don't have that. I see guys trying to help out because the guy next to them just whiffed on the block and so they don't get a good block on their guy. If you don't trust the guy next to you can do his job and might need help then you have already lost. |

It's pretty obvious he's definitely not anywhere near 100%. When healthy the guy is a stud. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
If I'm going to lay the smack down on someone, it's Jason Taylor.
This isn't knee jerk, this is the culmination of watching him phone it in the past couple of weeks. I gave him an excuse while he was hurt, but when I watch the rest of the defense flying around, he's just kind of jogging towards the pile. I don't want to see him on the field as a Redskin again. The rest of the defense leaves it all on the field, but he just seems to not give two shits. |

He's been interviewed on the sidelines multiple times about how it feels to be playing in Washington and what he thinks of the defense. God forbid they talk to Fletcher or Landry. The straw that broke the camels back for me was last night, DURING the Ravens debacle, the local news was promoting a piece about Jason Taylor, off the field. Come to think of it, it's actually pretty fitting since he doesn't do shit on the field... |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
Did anyone notice the running play where Rabach went to his left and crashed into Kendal and Samuel while everyone else on the team went right?
The last few games there is at least one occasion where a linemen is pass blocking on a running play. It looks like my man Joe Bugel has already checked out of Redskins park. I hate to sound like my dad but I remember when Joe Bugel could coach up any 300Lb pile of shit and turn him into a solid player. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
I think we can all agree that yesterday we looked like a bunch of amateurs. The o-line at the end of the game was laughable. JZ didn't help the matter out at all.
If i was sitting at home cringing as Geisinger lined up accross from Suggs, why wouldn't a NFL head coach cringe as well? Ugly. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs Ravens)
I still think we will end up ahead of expectations coming in. Not bad for a rookie head coach, We need to draft o-line, d-line early and we'll be right there. Perhaps the center who plays for alabama, Would'nt mind the DT either. This secondary is outstanding imagine how good they would be with any kinda pass-rush. We're headed the right direction and that's what matters most. GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
