If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
So if we dont make the playoffs, what is the next best thing in the nfl would you want to happen? For me,its the cowboys not making the playoffs.
For others it might be Portis winning the rushing title Colt getting into a game Zorn learning clock management and when to throw the replay flag Campbell bringing us a comeback victory with his passing! and so on,whats yours? |
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
I think the most important thing is that we carry offensive momentum into next season. While I don't typically believe mo carries over from year to year, we can't fade out this year having had our offense completely implode. We need to demonstrate over the final three weeks that, even if we can't be effective against dominant defenses, we can still move the ball against the mediocre. That will give us something to build on going into next year.

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
For the gazillion time, the best thing to happen is for the team to get an offensive line.

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Listen,All the talk about playoffs.colt brennan and so on is all just talk. Im a die-hard skins fan but i rather not lie to myself (I think thats how you get hurt) No look if you think about it redskins have not played well all season in the begining we were executing and etc. but we never showed the fans that we we guarantees to win the next game. Everygame with the redskins is a iffy 4th quater decicion. As far as the playoffs i hope so yeah everyone hopes so. but it all starts with cincy right now i dont even think we could be detroit, also the west coast offence is not going to work and zorns playcalling isnt going to work with the injuries on the O line, everyone must just hope we can pull these last games out,but we have ALOT to work on this offseason. including another WR,

Hey I love the Reskins and the wizards. Both of them suck, so I am presently trying to become a hockey fan, because that is my best bet to back a hometown winner.

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Also, I seem to remember Campbell authoring comeback victories against the Cardinals and Saints earlier in the season, so I'm not sure the burden is on him to do that again.

Oh please, baseball doesn't start until the spring, and the sport itself is not relevant until july/august. |

Right there w/ you man. I was actually going to start a thread, not so much about the trench situation because it's been talked up one side and down the other, but discussing my observation of Zorn in his pressers and whenever he talks w/ the media. Basically, I believe Zorn has the ability to be an offensive genius. I really do. Put the leadership question aside for a minute (as i said in another thread it remains to be seen whether he can take a group of guys and lead them to victory). But I believe I see genius on offense because of the way he talks about seeing plays like they happen in slow-motion, and that he sees very clearly what the execution has to be to make a play work. He is not getting the execution, and that's where the line comes into play bigtime. The line is so f'ing bad it has every person on offense frustrated to hell. JC gets no time and pounded against good d units, the receivers don't get the ball as often because even if they do get open Campbell is already on the ground or running for his life. This is a royal mess. Over the next three games I'm looking at one thing: how many of our lineman on offense are/should be keepers to either start or be very competitive back-ups next year. My fear is there are only 4: Kendell and Thomas (old-farts in NFL land) and Heyer (still covered in baby fat). Obviously Chris will be back as a starter w/ a new triceps and knee, but fellas that's only 4 total lineman and we need 5 starters and at least 3 solid reservists. Beyond the season I'll be looking for any and all indicators of how the FO is going to address this mess. In my estimation we'll need to recruit 1 or 2 starters and 3 or 4 very competitive reservists. A very tall order but we just have to make this happen. Honestly, I'm thinking more about the FA market and the draft than about the remainder of this season. I don't want to limp into the playoffs again w/ an anemic, sloppy offense and then miss the better/best talent come draft day. |
So if we dont make the playoffs?
Who says we won't make the PO's? I say we have a shot. Long, but a shot! Next is momentum going into next year, thirdly is the cow-not-quite-men missing from the PO's! Then we can heat up the hot stove and talk FA and Draft. |

Because he seems to favor one on one blocking situations to help our receivers, but we then seem totally unprepared for overload blitzes. Now a lot of times, that's Rabach's fault for not communicating the blitz to the rest of the line and shifting the protection. But other times, we do shift the protection, and then you have Todd Yoder on Darryl Tapp or something stupid that leads to an easy sack. Campbell, Randle El, and Cooley are really good at seeing the rush, and knowing if we have to get an adjustment on, but a lot of times, the defense will send only 5 guys and drop 6 into coverage, so the receivers do the CORRECT thing and run the route that was called in the huddle. But then, our five or six blockers will screw up the protection, and I'll look over on the left side, and Samuels/Sellers will have THREE guys coming off Campbell's blind side, while Kendall and Rabach double the nose, Thomas blocks no one, and Jansen has a one on one matchup. In said scenario, Campbell assumes that he's got it covered with six blockers on five rushers. WE SHOULD HAVE IT COVERED. But we don't and someone gets a clean shot on Campbell, and it's a toss up whether or not someone can come open just before Campbell gets killed. Either way, the quarterback is going to take a shot, and that's a mistake. |

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
If Skins can't do it this year... (Which honestly I've given up hope that they'll contend. Even if they sneak in they have no swagger, no rythm, no mojo, nothing. Not even with #21 being put in the ring of fame or #28 and #81 in HOF could take them higher. Not even starting 6-2 could inspire. Redskins are 7-6 with 3 games left. Only way we get in the dance is if we win out and others lose out. The Redskins of 2k5 and 2k7 over came much, but never the climb that this 2k8 team must endure. We are done and)I'm putting my wellwishes in the prayers of #4 of the NYJ.

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
If we don't make it, I'll just root for my second favorite team...the Titans
More importantly than that though is the Eagles not winning it all |

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Well the fishing is great here from late December through the end of January. So I guess it will give me more time to fire up the boat and chase down some big Rock Fish/ Stripers. If we don't get in I'd rather see Dallas get in only to loose their first game so they keep the tradition alive and its fun to watch their fans go from their high to loosing it so quickly.
you'd rather have the eagles not win then the cowboys? I just dont have that hatred for the eagles like the cowboys
Well, there are a couple of reasons why 1. The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl and I'd like to keep it that away. It'd be nice if the Cowboys never won the SB again, but I can't take away the 5 they have already won 2. Cowboys' fans are annoying but Eagles' fans are worthless, classless wastes of sperm (as evidenced by their disgusting reaction to Sean Taylor's death last year). Granted, I have a cuple of friends who are Eagles fans and they are good people, but that is much more the exception than the norm when it comes to Philthy fans |
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Man this is sad that our forum has been reverted to talks about hockey, baseball (excuse me while i shoot myself), second favorite teams, and which is the lesser of two evils, to have the eagles or the cowboys in the playoffs.
|
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
The second best thing is no NFC East team winning the SB, and our 3 2nd round picks getting some extra reps out there and hopefully getting the playbook down and this whole "Colt" thing.
Let me get this straight you guys want a player who hasnt playe din an NFL game who played for a system school in Hawaii and the one chance they had to show what they could do in the sugar bowl they got handed their ass, and you want this guy to start a game for us now??? The thought of that kills me but we also need a offensive and defensive line |
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
its pretty sad that it comes down to the same old thing every year.our offensive line played well at the begining of the season then we got worn down.ON THE SERIES WHEN THE RAVENS RAN IT 12 TIMES IN A ROW and we couldnt stop them from moving the ball?IT LOOKS LIKE THE WHOLE TEAM HAS WORN DOWN

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
if we dont make the playoffs i hope we figure out a way to cut alot of fat contracts for underproducing players:
people who are due more money than CP next year (i didnt add samuels b/c i like him and i dont think we could get rid of his K, and i like him and hope he retires b n g): jason taylor - 8 mil andre carter - 6.6 mil marcus washington - 6.5 mil shawn springs - 8.5 mil ARE - 6.1 mil santana moss - 6.75 mil THATS 35.7 MIL NEXT YEAR FOR A BUNCH OF NON-PRODUCING AGED VETS (i didnt include moss' K b/c he produces compared to the others). Would our team miss a beat without JT, MW, SS, ARE and AC? maybe, probaly for alil bit but i could see their replacements to start out-producing these guys half thru next season. to outproduce springs - all the cb would have to do is stay healthy and not get totally burnt. i like springs and he is great when in there. andre carter - all the DE has to do is be a liability against the run and pick up 3-4 sacks over 16 games. MW - marcus has lost a step, next year he will probaly lose 2 steps ARE - not a good #2 in terms of being able to step in as the no. 1 when moss cant go. JT - hes been injured, we knew his K when we traded for him . . kinda hard to knock him but a hater would have 8 million reasons to do so. honestly replacing these guys will take more than 1 offseason but replacing these underproducing high paid players would be nice. |
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
we need more offense whatever that takes.Better blockers who are young a defense that is youthfull would also help.I dont know if any quarterback could have done much against the ravens pass rush.Ireally felt sorry for jason he had the look of a poor lost puppy who just wanted to hide.can we beat the bengals?

Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Hopefully I'll be able to do some fishing, have'nt had a chance to do much this year. Watching Dallas and Philly crumble always brings me much joy. What I'm really looking for though is to see some of our young players step up. I'd like to see something in these guys to give me hope for next year. Horton has been amazing. Maybe we have some diamonds in the rough that have'nt had a chance to shine yet. Thomas is starting to come on and I would like to see Kelly start making some progress and maybe an o-ineman or two show some promise. I'd like to see Rob Jackson a little more also to see what he can do. The second best thing would be to see some progress in our young players.

Heres alil secret for people who live in or around DC and want to catch some nice size strippers and shad . .go to fletchers boat house on the potomac river (inside the DC line) between march and april and whatever strippers firstdown doesnt catch in dec. jan will make their way up the potomac river and get bottled up in the deep pools just below little falls. this lil area is one of the best fishing spots in the whole country for the early spring months and its right in our backyard. |
Re: If we dont make the playoffs, whats your next best thing?
Since the Redskins are a long shot, I'm rooting for the remaining NFC East teams to fail. Especially Dallas. I get sick to the stomach every time these bums win. I enjoy watching Philly fail as well. I don't know why, but I'm kinda indifferent to the Giants winning or losing. I guess the Giants have my respect.
