D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
According to sources inside Redskin Park, the honeymoon is over:
www.dcexaminer.com >> Sports Would this be that big of a surprise if true? |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Actually, I wouldn't be all that surprised. But....
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Oh lord. Here we go. Our issues lie with personnel much more than coaching, IMO. The WCO takes time, Snyder knew this when he hired Zorn. Plus Zorn has made real strides with Campbell. Are we really gonna blow it up and start all over AGAIN? Another new offense?
Did Danny really expect a 10 or 11 win season right away when he hired Zorn? Maybe Snyder should read the "did the 6-2 start raise our expectations too high" thread. Sadly, I would not be surprised if he fires Zorn. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
you gotta be kidding! We will never establish a team if we keep this up!
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
UGH. I hate stories like this because it can start huge internet rumors that are often entirely unfounded.
And then even worse, if the story actually does turn out to have any merit at all, it means we could be starting over yet again. I just don't want to think about it, either way. I'm going to close my eyes and wish real hard that I never read this. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I gotta believe this is a bunch of malarky...
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
If we lose out I think Zorn deserves to be fired.
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Brilliant!
This Front Office never ceases to amaze me. One step forward, two steps back. Do they have mirrors in the owner and GM's bathrooms? They never accept any of the blame. It is always someone else's fault. The only constant besides the losing is Snyderatto. It is time for Vinny to be judged. This is not a coaching problem, it is a personnel problem. We have the oldest team in the NFL. I wonder why our offensive and defensive lines get run over? |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
We should put a "?" after jeopardy in the thread title. It's a bit misleading. The article suggests that Snyder is frustrated with the team (i.e. the "honeymoon is over" comment), but offers nothing to back up the notion that Zorn's job is in jeopardy.
It's totally speculative, not definitive as the thread title suggests. I just don't want to see a bunch of freak out type posts. The title of the article, after all, is "Zorn's job in jeopardy?" |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
if zorn is fired, you might as welll take vinny cerato with you too!!!!!!!!
I gotta believe this is a bunch of malarky...
Let's hope it is. But think about it for a minute -- is it absolutely out of the question that Snyder was only going to give Zorn one full season to judge how he handled a veteran, playoff team to see if he could lead them to the next level? And if he failed, or didn't maintain a .500 or better record that he would turn to someone else? |
Re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy
I expect a big offseason splash from Synder in free agency. Obviously need to develope young talent.

Actually I'd agree. Losing to the Bengals and Niners would seal it for me. If I'm the owner, and while I was interviewing you, if you said to me that you'd take a 9-7 team from the previous season and go 7-9 this year, I would not have hired you. But Zorn's not that guy, I don't think. I think we'll beat those two teams and go 9-7. He'll deserve another shot next year. But again, playing owner, I'd fully expect his passing game to make major improvement in 2009. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Take what Rick Snider says with a grain of salt. He has pretty openly stated in the past that he looks for ways to make Snyder look bad (he's much worse than JLC in this regard).
Another insider says Snyder and some players are upset that Zorn hasn't taken as much blame (even if it's not necessarily his fault) the way Gibbs used to do. But he's likely to get at least one more year with the team. But there could be massive changes with the rest of the staff. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I think Zorn has a future as a coach. Like another poster said, our problems lie with personnel. Zorn inherited this team, and as a first year coach, he's had great success with it. I give Zorn all the credit for JC's improvement.
That said, I wouldn't be opposed to hiring Cowher, because I think he'd have more influence over Snyder and Cerrato. However, if Zorn left and Cowher came in, I think JC's progression would be stifled. So, I wouldn't necessarily want to trade Zorn for Cowher. Ideally, I'd like to see Cowher as HC and Zorn stay as OC along with his offense. |
I expect a big offseason splash from Synder breaking the bank with players.
If they are good, proven, offensive and defensive lineman then I'm fine with that. |

Oh no. Here we go....Bring in Bill Cowher.
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I hope it's not true, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. Let's face it guys no matter what you've heard JZ was not our 1st, 2nd or 3rd pick. It was most likely Cowher, Spags, Fassel-prior to the fan uprising. A bad ending to this season in combination w/ the possible availability of Cowher could mean changes again.
But listen, our issues go alot deeper than JZ. Our organization may need an overhaul soon, starting at the top. If there are changes, I would hope that there are some wholesale changes and not just the coach. I want to see if JZ can right this but if not some serious consideration should go to Jim Schwartz of Tenn. We interviewed him last year. BC wouldn't come here w/out some sort of final say on personel. Jim Fassel would be our next coach for sure. OMG. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Man, if you thought this offense doesn't attack downfield with deep passes enough, just wait for what Bill Cowher will do.
Prepare yourself for 'three yards and a cloud of dust' excitement with his offensive philosophy. |

Unfortunately when the Danny is frustrated sometimes heads roll. See Norv Turner. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Hey just for the record, the word "jeopardy" itself implies a question -- not a certainty -- that Zorn may lose his job if they don't finish 9-7.
Also for the record, I just don't think this story is as ridiculous as we all hope it is. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
DS may have to come out w/ the dreaded, coach killing vote of confidence.
|
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Nobodys safe when you don't score. The Lions have out scored us. Milk and cookie time is over. Zorns demeanor is about to change. He may even drink a beer and skip chruch. The Jaw is movin to DC.

Firing a rookie head coach in his first year when he's trying to implement his new offense is just stupid. Really stupid. I have some issues with Zorn but he needs time. Even if we lost to SF and Cinn. And losing to SF is a real possibility. They're playing better than we are. We simply don't have players and that's not Zorn's fault. Maybe Snyder needs to look at his butt buddy Vinny. But I doubt this story is true. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
The absolute worst thing that Snyder could right now is revert to being the panicky fan he was before Gibbs came along and dismiss Zorn after this season. Yeah, we're 1-4 in our last 5 games. But we were also 6-2 in our first 8 games. We're talking about a first year head coach. He deserves a chance to improve on season one. I think all first time head coaches deserve that shot. Zorn wasn't my choice necessarily for head coach, but he doesn't deserve to get dismissed.
As for Cowher...I don't see it happening. I think he's going to Dallas if anywhere |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I couldn't stand that amount of turnover anymore. So what we are all saying is a man only gets one year, and doesn't get to add any of his players essentially, who is a rookie head coach and has to go through tons of growing processes himself, who took a team to what might be a winning season, the axe in one year?
I Just couldn't handle it And please don't just pin point your thoughts on how we aren't going to have a winning season this year and we are going to lose the last 3. That is not the point of this post. |

re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
Zorn, should go down or ought to go down as the first HC ever to be an interim first year HC before the season started. His responsibilities going into this year were too over whelming and way above his pay grade and initial application.
I would hope we could either down grade him as Offensive Coordinator, but at the same time I preach continuity and being able to solidify our leadership and not this carousel of direction we are supposed to be heading. It seems Cowher would never be interested in us. Where are we gonna find a guy worthy of us and better yet would want to keep Zorn as Off Coord.??? In Baltimore, they have Cameron for Off. and Ryan for Def. their HC Harboraugh is simply just a lifeguard watching over the 2 sides not really even messing with them. He simply is the front man who does interviews to the media and is supervisor for his staff. Zorn posseses great character but I haven't seen the players seem to be declining their approval of him by the week. I wish Snyder/Cerrato could evaluate the talent/ team we have and be able to bring coaches/players in that work around them rather than entities that falsely build hype which fuels his product being merchandised. I like how all of our problems are reflections of poor Mgt. but all they do is temporarily disguise it or temporarily sweep it under the rug. History seems to repeat it self again in DC. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
You know I wouldn't put it pass my boy snyder. Zorn is like an Interim coach but just for the whole season. He wasn't the first second third or fourth pick for Snyder. So don't be shocked if a coach with real head coach credit turn Snyders attention back to the one we all know and loathe.

re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I don't know what pisses me off more, the fact that this guys wrote the article, or the talk of a new coach again.
Anyone know when Ping Pong comes on T.V, I bet all 8 of the fans don't have to deal with this shit. |

Everyone has said Snyder learned from Gibbs, so changing after 1 relatively successful season, regardless of these last 3 games. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
I think we need to realize that this continuity we all wanted (and for the most part got) going into this season may not be the best thing for Zorn's long-term success. Maybe he needs more of his own coaches to implement his strategies, he needs to play guys like Thomas and Kelly who are the future of the passing game (not El and Thrash). He can't do these things if he's only given one year. I don't think this is like Spurrier who barely would put in a day's work at Redskins Park. Zorn, from all I've heard, is putting a lot of effort into the job and deserves a shot, a real shot.
But again, this is all speculation by a columnist with an open dislike of Snyder |

I totally disagree. If we lose our next three games, after starting the season 6-2, and finish the season 7-9 I think absolutely merits a firing. This was a playoff team last year with virtually the same players. We have the talent on this team i'm just not exactly sure if it's being used properly. |
re: D.C. Examiner: Zorn's job in jeopardy? (not so fast he's coming back)
If this story is true and Danny is really thinking of doing that? Then he should sell the team to a competent owner who uses his brain instead of his emotions. This team will never win if this is a real rumor, hopefully that's all it is. A rumor.

I don't know if I'd call this a playoff team last year rather a team that happened to make the playoffs. |

Or I think if we re-examine the Off. Coord. we may be able to shop and find better. I don't think I have seen an OFfense that functioned since the early 1990's. |

Colt Brennen will be the next redskins coach.

A playoff team and a 6th seed that barely got in and went home after one game. We could have VERY easily been 7-9 or worse last year. Rackers kick goes in and we're done. Dallas didn't need the last game of the year so they laid down for us. Yes we can bitch about certain guys not being used correctly but firing Zorn is not the way to go. Talent wise there is really no difference between the 07 and 08 team. If anything we're worse. Did anyone think we'd be better w/out Sean Taylor? Give Zorn 3 years. I can't believe we're even talking about this. |

With Cowher going to Cleveland who would you get?
