Carl Peterson resigns in KC
ESPN - Kansas City Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson resigns
They're had a couple crappy seasons but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him as part of the organization. He's got a strong sense of the NFL and what it takes to build a winner and will bring some much needed leadership to the front office. |
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
No thanks!! How long has he been in KC to fix it their issues and how many championships does he have? Way too long and none.
|
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
Yea... no Carl for me... I would try and lure Beathard out of retirement for the second time... he did great things everywhere.
|
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
So long Herman Edwards.
Hey, what if the Chiefs offer us a 1st and a 2nd round draft pick for the rights to Vinny? :) |
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
How has Peterson built a winner exactly?
When was the last time KC was in a Super Bowl? |
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
Well.........Joe Montana went there and did...................hmmmm
|
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
Peterson's best days are behind him. When Marty Schottenheimer was there with him, the Chiefs were always in the playoff picture and usually in the post-season. Recently, he allowed the team to get old - - don't we know what that is about here in DC? - - and they are in a youth movement now. Youthful NFL teams usually don't do very well and the Chiefs aren't doing all that well.

Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
Paintrain Carl Peterson is terrible!!! He was among the 3 worst GM's along with the former GM of the Lions and Vinny
|
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
20 years in KC and his crowning moment was the AFC Championship game in '93. I think we can pass.

Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
i would take old man Reese, from e.s.p.n before Peterson
|
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
Peterson, probably not. His resume isn't too bad though. For a 10 year span they were the model franchise. One of the top 5 in the NFL year in and year out.
Probably just misfortune that they never won a SB. I could live w/ Peterson vs VC. |
Re: Carl Peterson resigns in KC
He never even made it to a Super Bowl though, and only 1 championship game appearance. That's pretty ho-hum.

Not that I want Carl Petersen as our GM, because I do not. I would want someone younger. But from 1989-1997 KC was consistently a good team. Something Vinny and Snyder have not done in Washington. KC Season Record 1997 13 3 0 1st 1996 9 7 0 2nd 1995 13 3 0 1st 1994 9 7 0 2nd 1993 11 5 0 1st 1992 10 6 0 2nd 1991 10 6 0 2nd 1990 11 5 0 2nd 1989 8 7 1 2nd |

During that period of time during Marty's tenure as Head Coach KC went 104-65-1, that is a strong accomplishment for any team. During that time they were a top 5 team. Being a winner for many years is a major accomplishment. While it does not come close to winning a super bowl, you have to give Carp Peterson credit for hiring the coaches and drafting the players that made up that team. |

I would venture to say that record is probably top 5 in the nfl during that period. Granted, no SB's but give him some credit. Not that i would want Peterson, but it amazes me some would be so quick to say no, yet defend VC and his 8 year track record here. |

One AFC Championship appearance? To me that's pretty easy to say no to. |

I can see that. I would tend to chalk the one AFC Championship a bit of bad luck. CP put the talent in place and they had talent generally, and it's up to the players and coaches to win. For whatever reason, they didn't. They cruised thru the reg season and blew it in the playoffs every year. Again, i don't want CP, I'd prefer someone younger like a Thomas Demitroff. I actually don't know his age but am assuming he's under 50. |

Yeah well, Vinny + Danny + (fill in the blank HC thus far) = mediocrity. Sometimes a tad better than mediocre, and sometimes borderline laughing stock. I'm open to all options/suggestions right now as far as FO is concerned. |

My bad.. Poor post, I was caught up in post Cincy cynicism and just wanted a change!

I don't disagree. That's why we don't bring Peterson in cause he would be no improvement over Vinny. I would much rather get Bobby DePaul or the new young guy we brought this year from Chicago (can't remember his name) be given a chance. Young Blood!! No retreads!! |

I think this is what we are attempting to do with Scott Campbell. Obviously the jury is still out. Redskins' S. Campbell Makes Calls As Cerrato's Draft Day Lieutenant - washingtonpost.com |

Yeah, it's kind of strange. It would be no surprise if we're all confused with the job titles we're handing out (again). Campbell is director of player personnel, and Morocco Brown is head of pro personnel. Not sure if this is normal.... So that would include overseeing advance scouting of the next opponent, the practice squads, the waiver wire, etc. |
