FOX's Camera Angles...

Seems like I bring this up every season, but did anyone else get annoyed with the endzone camera angles on the kickoffs? They also did it on several offensive plays. They use that 'floating camera' thing, and it's just terrible. You have no idea what's happening! On replays it's fine, but not during actual game play.

FOX does it every year. I guess they think it's cool, or groundbreaking or something. I hate it.

MTK 09-12-2004 11:38 PM

I'm with ya, that overhead angle on kickoffs is really annoying, and I think it was the same camera they were using for the FG attempts too and it's too damn far away.

Bozzy 09-13-2004 12:46 AM

Yes, those sucked. But not as much as the Bucs running game.

Zing!

Cush 09-13-2004 01:09 AM

What about that stupid "Tony Siragusa Logo" thing they had when he was talking (during the Eagles / Giants game)?

JWsleep 09-13-2004 01:59 AM

They are trying to justify paying for that floating camera. I dont like it. Good for replays, but not the live shot.

RedskinPete 09-13-2004 04:34 AM

I didn't like the Kick off or the floating angel that much. Also I hate the way fox has the score ,down and now all the other stuff going on top of the TV. Why because they don't have it at the top but few inches down. It not good just go with the ESPN or CBS way!

While I happen to agree about the "Fox Box" along the top of the screen being very intrusive, I happen to like the angle from behind the kicker and especially the offense. From that angle you can really see the holes open up during a running play, and the route's the receivers run during the pass play's. I really gives you a sense of what the running backs and quarter backs see. -Summo

when they do that floating camera thing I get motion sickness....lol...

Yeah I have to agree that I liked that angle pre-snap, it almost gives you a Madden like view of the field.

It is nice, but as someone said, only as a replay. People are so used to the classic sideline angle, why mess with it? It just makes things confusing, and it seems like Fox is just flexing its muscles showing off its technology.

the floating camera is friggin awesome! i think it will just take some getting used to for you guys, but it does show actually how the play develops and gives you a better feel for whats happening on the kickoffs.

the fox box in the upper right hand corner however is completely and totally horrid ! there is constantly a score on there taking up more screen space but it flashes every time a new score is posted. not when someone actually scores but whenever it changes game scores. it honestly takes your focus away from the game b/c we're trained to look at something when its flashing. and it flashes every time it changes. it kept flashing scores during the second half of sundays games and these were games that we already knew about and were over. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO KEEP FLASHING THE SCORE?! fox must change this immediately. i say we get a petition together and send it to all the other team's message boards, get them to sign it and send it on to fox. Who's with me??

Who has a Fox E-mail address?

we the fans need to come together for the common good of our viewing pleasure. let's let fox know that we only wanna know the scores that matter, and we don't need a flashing update every 5 seconds!

Exactly. It's a great shot - for a change of pace look, or coming in from commercial. It stinks live - especially since the "yellow line" doesn't show up.

Okay, now I'm really mad! I just read the Wash Post article which quoted our official in the booth as saying that he couldn't recommend a challenge on the 4th down at the goal line because none of the camera angles were from the side. Since they were from the front and back only, he didn't feel it would be inconclusive evidence to overturn. Those angles are great for "extra" shots after the play, but you can't tell the result of the play from them.

d151b 09-14-2004 12:04 PM

but anyone watching the broadcast could tell, he got the first down............ except for the guy we hired to tell gibbs whether to challenge or not.

SkinsRock 09-14-2004 03:15 PM

There is a reason that at any level, seats around the 50 yard line are more expensive than seats in the end zone. It is a better view. Hence, the end zone "floating" camera angle is cool for a pre-play shot and replays, but it sucks for live action.

That offical in the booth should be fired............. :cussing:

Was anyone annoyed by all the crawls Fox had at the top of the screen and the crawls at the bottom of the screen with updates etc...... could hardly see the players on the field...
SHEESH!

That Guy 09-15-2004 05:27 AM

yeah monk, what happened to the small score boxes?

I completely agree. I was yelling at the TV screen on Sunday. As others have said, the other views are fine for replays, but not for the live action.
