Mock Database Update (1/30)
Ok, we not have 165 mocks drafts for 2009 and we have had a total of 139 updated in January and a good chunk of them have been update over the last 7 days.
We added a new feature as well, we now provide at the top of the main table the tabulated consensus picks for the first 5 picks and the Redskins pick. These tabulations are based on all mock drafts updated in the last 10 days. The Redskins pick at 13 is obviously all over the board, though position wise, DE and OT rule, while some are projecting LB and CB. Right now: DE Everette Brown leads with 19 mocks but only trailed by OT Michael Oher by 1, at 18 mocks. Right behind those two is OT Jason Smith with 14 mocks projecting him at #13. Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
What I want to know is why 59% of the people have us taking a QB Matt Stafford with our first pick? or am I missing something. Do we really need a QB? huh, wait, umm don't answer that. We have glaring needs elsewhere and I have noticed some drafts out there have us taking this kid.

that's for the first overall pick ,not the redskins pick. look at the far right for that. |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
I'm sorry I guess I'm reading it wrong. Its who they think will be picked in the first 1-5 picks then they show who they think the Skins will pick. Sorry for taking up space. lol.

The Redskins pick is highlighted in Burgundy (or as Zorn would call it...Maroon). Don't feel bad though, I did the same thing when I saw the database. LOL. |

No problem, it helps my post count.:) the first time i did the same. |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
I'll take Oher, Smith, or Brown.
|
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
Personally with only 4 picks Id rather pass on all 3
Trade down and take Max Unger..He can play OT/C Add Free Agent OT..Kalif Barnes,or Vernon Carey, Max Starks all could play RT |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
Oher is not worth the #13 pick. Maybe if we trade down & he's there in the late 20s or early 2nd. His stock is falling, and based on the only game I watched (bowl game), I can see why.
I have a really good impression of Brown, but DEs are higher risk. |

Some of those people doing Mocks are on crack....Is Monroe really gonna fall all the way to 13? lol. And it's starting to look like Smith might not make it that far neither, with most the top 10 teams in need of an OT. Brown only makes sense if Taylor can stand up and play LOLB to replace washington |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
The mocks that have us taking a DE are a little puzzling... actually really puzzling. Basically we're bringing back two starters from last year (i would count Evans as a starter now even though i'd like to upgrade him) while the oline has these glaring holes.

DE & DT are pretty significant needs. We need a pass rush any way we can get it. I don't think it's puzzling at all. If they really like a DE that's there at 13 it makes sense to grab him. I do agree that the o line is more in need, especially RT. I think the smart pick is an OT w/13 but if they feel the class is deep enough to get somebody decent in rnd. 3 maybe they take Brown or Orakpo if they can. If Oher is the last of the top OTs left at 13 I hope we can trade down or take somebody they've rated higher on the d line. |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
I agree with passing on Oher. I've watched the senior bowl on DVR twice and he doesn't appear to be that good. Also, the knock on him is effort, especially in run blocking! Pass on him please!!! (pass on Peria Jerry and BJ Raji too). One week of senior bowl practice does not do enough for a college career of hacking it.
If no trade take Maualuga at 13. If we can trade down take Eben Britton or Fili Moala in the late first round and Ayers the DE in the third. If |

PennSkinsFan. Do you know which mock was the closest to getting it right last year?
|
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
take Maualuga at 13 or BJ Raji
|
take Maualuga at 13 or BJ Raji
Malaauga is not a need, (we have Flecther) you either take an OT at 13, draft the OLB from Wake. Bj Raja is not a top 13 pick, you can get him in the mid 20's in the 1st and get a 3rd. |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
you have to remember that joe bugel is still the I line coach!
|
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
Trading down means you need a partner, which is easier said than done. However, we're in a good spot for trading down. We're out of the ridiculous money tier, but still allows teams to get great prospects.
you have to remember that joe bugel is still the I line coach!
I don't know how much that matters anymore. As to our biggest position of need (OT) it looks like Andre Smith and Monroe will be long gone by 13. The consensus brewing around here it seems is we should pass on Oher, who looks more likely to fall to us now. So the only other 1st round rated tackle is Jason Smith but he's expected to go later in the round. Trading w/ the lions may actually be perfect to get J. Smith and pickup a third rd pick (if Vinny is dead set on the line). I'll be a little uneasy about this for two reasons: when it comes to 3rd and later round talent Vinny seems to be totally hit and miss, as in C. Rinehart. Impossible to say whether another 3rd round selection will do us any good whatsoever. This is why I'm almost more inclined to stay @ 13 no matter what and get the best talent, as in it's harder for Vinny to f up. I would say if the o tackles are gone but Curry or Rey M. fall to us we ought to take one of them and run. Obviously Curry is the perfect OLB but why couldn't Rey step in there for some time before taking over for London in 2 years or so? Is that completely unheard of? Personally I think it's interesting tackle is considered a relatively safe 1st round pick now. |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
I notice Jason Smith is the smallest of the 1st round grade o tackles. I don't like that. Being the smallest, oldest, slowest line in our division and maybe in the whole league I'd like to see some injection of mass in the trench. Too bad Duke Robinson doesn't play tackle (if we could trade down) cause holy crap that sucker is big.

Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
I just want a running back or a reciever. Though I'd be fine with a corner or safety with our first pick.

I know we have Fletcher , but do we keep with the thinking that has us where we are now ..waiting until a player is on his last leg? Or do we grab a game changing BEAST and work his way into the lineup for the next decade...We need someone that's going to bring the hammer like Malaauga. A lot of mocks having BJ Raji going 12 to Denver , and a lot of them are thinking he'll rise even higher after the combine...some have him going as high as 4th (just my opinion) |

I like the RB at 13 we need a change of pace Betts is not Betts anymore, and that's all we have behind CP I like Marcus Mason whatever happened to him I wonder.../Which RB would you take at that spot ? |

LOL I hope so too Seriously, MLB is not a need and if we can still get two years out of Flecther why draft an MLB in waiting when OLB (Curry if he's there) is more of a pressing need? It doesn't look like we can get Monroe or the kid from Alabama but if we can we should grab him, and if not we trade down in the 1st. |

True, 13 is a good spot, especially these days w/the underclassmen coming out there are great players in that range at decent prices. Trading down would be good considering our lack of picks, but if they feel a future pro bowl LT a la Samuels is there at 13 I say grab him. I doubt that will be the case, and likely Oher will be the best tackle by then. Two teams right off hand have picks they could deal - Philly(21,28) & Detroit (1,20 + an extra 3rd & 6th from the pokes). Philly isn't out of the question, remember they dealt Thrash back to us in 04. Detroit will be interesting; M.Mayhew, our former cb, is their GM. Schwartz, their new HC, is said to be a big "money ball" guy, so if he has much say in personel, they are less likely it seems to trade up. Anyone else know of any teams w/extra picks that might deal? |
Re: Mock Database Update (1/30)
Buges is known for taking talent and upgrading it. I say we make the splash for a big FA OT. A seasoned one who will come in learn the plays and contribute. Only to help protect JC. Then we look to get a big DT who will be able to collapse a pocket from the draft. It's not as hard to bring in young talent and tell them to simply collapse the pocket. Then we can look to the OLB everyone is screaming for and DE after in the later rounds. Funny some blasted the person for wanting a RB but that's exactly what the RB coach said he wanted a shiftier RB as a change up to Portis.
As for Mason (whome I liked) last I heard after going to the Ravens he went to the Jets. However a week ago I looked to see if he was still employed by them in hopes we could ask him back and could not find him on the roster. No where. So I'm not sure if he was let go or inured. I found that wanting a WR in the 1st round funny though. |

It was an ironic statement from a guy who always promotes building the front lines first. |
It was an ironic statement from a guy who always promotes building the front lines first.
Sorry for causing trouble, but on a positive note it is nice that more and more people understand when I'm kidding. I guess though it was my fault for throwing in running back since at the very least it's on the verge of becoming a need, but SCSkins fan is right I do promote building up front first. But Eknox to answer your question, if I was going to take a running back for us at 13 well then I'd like to the team take a chance with Knowshon. And for the record I'm not a UGA fan, or a GT fan for that matter. However there's a lot of big uglies that I'd like to see us take before we go after a running back. In fact I would rather wait until we have a young O-Line before we even think about taking a Running Back early. |

The ones that we have rated A+ are not only pretty good mocks as far as accuracy, but are also draft sites that have either been around more than 5 years or are associated with professional nfl scouting firms. One of my favorites of course is Draft Countdown, Scott Wright. We may actually do our own grading this year. Might need to recruit some Warpath members to help out. |

Todd Mcshay has us picking up Brian Orakpo with the 13th pick.
I'm 50/50 on it. Still want Maualuga. |

This is professional football, not fantasy football. Draft Maualuga, he could be the next Ray Lewis or at worst the next Lofa Tatupa. |

I've heard some pretty reliable sources suspect that Andre Smith is actually going to fall all the way down to us...which would just be ridiculous
