Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
From ESPN:
Dan Reeves, Dallas Cowboys can't agree on job - ESPN |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Reeves wants complete control of the football organization, or at least a guarantee that he is next in line to have complete control (and not say Mike Shanahan)
|
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
On PFT, Florio speculated that Reeves wants final say over Jones... and thats never going to happen.
|
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Being a "football person" in charge of "all things football" in Dallas is not all that different from being a "football person" in charge of "all things football" in Ashburn Virginia.
Recall the problems here the next time you fantasize about someone like Bill Cowher or Bill Parcells coming here to "right the ship" for the Redskins' franchise. However, do not rule out completely a return to the Redskins by Joe Gibbs for a third time. That is not likely, but it could happen... |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Gibbs back again? I think not. Gibbs "win-now with overpriced veteran players" philosophy put this franchise back years. He abandoned this team in its darkest hour. Hes ridiculously old. No thanks.

I definitely do not think it would be a good idea to bring him back here nor do I think that it is even a 50/50 chance that he will return. But do NOT rule it out... |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
No way Gibbs comes back again, just no way. Have you seen him lately? He looks about 10 years younger.
|
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
This is the second or third time in the past few weeks you've said this SC.
I think if he comes back, it's as a part-owner/figurehead executive. I don't see him taking on any true responsibilities with the team anymore. Love the guy, but let's move forward now Now Marty coming back...that's another story :) |

Thank god!! |

Smootsmack:
I believe that there is about a 10% probablility that Joe Gibbs will be back with the Redskins sometime in the next 3-4 years. Note, that is a long-shot to be sure, but the chance is there. If he comes back, it will be in a football capacity. I think he would only be the coach again under dire circumstances; but if he comes back to the team, it will be in the football part of the operation. I don't think he will be a figurehead exec or a "show-pony minority owner." Remember back when Gibbs resigned the first time and JKC kept Gibbs' salary checks in his desk uncashed. That was JKC's way of "leaving the light on" for him. Let me say without any more specifics that I am convinced that the Redskins have "left the light on" once again. I agree with you wholeheartedly that Marty will never work with Danny Boy again. Neither party wants that to happen... |

And a whole lot happier. |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Do you guys remember me suggested Gibbs would come back? And then he did. Shocked the crap outta me. This time? No way, no chance. This team will have problems being consistant and competing against the elite franchises in the NFL until their is a football person in charge of football. Cowher, Parcells. Shit I say bring in Shanahan!

We're talking about Gibbs here (not sure why since the thread is about Reeves), and I suppose it's remotely possible as you say but it is definitely the last thing on his mind right now |

I definitely don't agree, I would instead argue that he helped guide the franchise through it's darkest hour. That playoff run was vintage Gibbs, and his leadership and guidance through the Taylor tragedy was unmistakable. |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Back to Reeves, so apparently Jones put in an "hours clause" into his deal specifying how many hours per week Reeves would work?! I can see why a true professional like Reeves would be insulted by something like that. I mean the guy was already working before he even had a deal in place, going over the offense with Garrett and what not.
|
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
Yeah JJ supposedly wanted Reeves to do all this work but wouldn't really put him in charge of anything. Reeves whole thing was "If I'm going to do all this, I better have some say"
Ultimately it's just another shot at Wade really, because I think he's the one that wanted Reeves in the first place |
Re: Reeves and Dallas contract negotiations having issues?
What is happening in Dallas and what is on this thread is making realize how similar the Redskins and the Cowboys are because of their owners.

I agree wholeheartedly. Gibbs was a guiding light during our darkest hour. What this team accomplished during this time was nothing short of remarkable. As far as Reeves goes, isn't this just typical JJ behavior? The man is a control freak and an egomaniac. I'm so happy he bought the Cowgirls instead of some other team. GMScud often uses the word circus to describe this team. That is the best description I have heard and JJ is the ringleader. |

Gibbs just made the inevitable come a year earlier, that's it. He guided the team under its darkest hour, which was when Taylor died.l |

I think Dallas is in a worst situation, especially since the sports pundits are always expecting so many great things out of them. |

Oh yeah absolutely, no question. Because you know, Snyder is the team president and GM of the Redskins, his son ( a chemical engineer) is the EVP and Director of Player Personnel, his other son is in charge of the business operations, his daughter is another executive with the Redskins. Snyder forced Zorn to fire coordinators on his staff and bring in guys he wanted (Scott Watchamacallit, the new TE coach, that was alllll Snyder)... 2001 called, they want their overused, inaccurate generalizations about Snyder and Jones back |

If anything, I think you & Matty are even underestimating Gibbs' success here in his 2nd stint. He took over a team that barely had a pulse on the field. He got the team back to the playoffs more than anyone had since he left in 93, and he arguably laid the foundation for the future, especially if JC is signed for a long term deal. IMO, even if JC isn't signed & moves on (which would suck), Gibbs drafted a guy that will be a starting nfl qb for years. As Peter King said, Joe Gibbs taught Snyder how to be more patient. |

How am I underestimating Gibbs? |
