Trouble in New York!?!?
From what I have ben reading it seems that Coughlin(SP) my loose the respect of the players before the second game of the season. I guess that he has ben fining playerS for, get this, SHOWING UP EARLY, BUT NOT EARLY ENOUGH, to team meetings.
I personly like the way that Coughlin(SP) is trying to build team chemistry on the Giants. With good rewards such as a $1,000.00 fine for M. Strahan because he arrived at 8:23 for an 8:25 meeting. If he keeps up this attitude this season, I see the players esp. the vets on this team, quiting on him faster than the did on Fassel. |
As long as they're in the meeting by start time and attentive so what? You set a time for people to be there for a reason. Random fines only build team comradarie while they figure out how to lynch the coach.
Don't make the players GUESS what will get them in trouble. Were they there by said time? They did what you asked. I'm all for discipline, but this is over the top. That's like telling a child to eat their Spinach and they get desert. Once the Spinich is gone you say well, I would have given you desert had you eaten the Spinach before we made that deal, but since you made the deal you have to eat more Spinach. |

Strahan fined for not being early enough? I love this gem, "Meetings start five minutes early." Between the grievances over practice and voluntary workouts, the Giants look to be in big t-rouble |
well, if he set the time for being there 5 mins be4 the actuall meeting time, then they knew when they had to be there, so its not as bad as i thought
|
Matty, Joe, Smootsmack, other Mods can I have $20 please? This website doesnt load fast enough.
|
ok then why not just set the time to be at say 8:25 for an 8:30 meeting, then there would be no confussion as to when the meeting started and when it really started.
|
Not to stick up for TC, 'cause I agree with Daseal - if you say you must be there when the meeting starts and it starts at 8:25, don't fine me when I show up at 8:24.
BUT What TC appears to be saying is "the meeting STARTS at 8:25, be there 5 mins early so we can start AT 8:25 and not have to wait for you to find your seat, get settled, say your howdy's, etc." IF that's what TC meant, however, then he damn well shoulda said that. 2004 NY Giants 2-14 |

That's pretty funny. :stop: But seriously this couldn't come up at a better time! I hope there fighting with Coughlin all week. :boxing: |

Yeah, sure. The check's in the mail. :silly: |
The irony of the whole thing is that he is losing the "control" that he covets so much. I heard that the players association is going to nail him to the wall after this and the over the top offseason workouts.

Well we were going to give you the money but you posted this message 2 minutes too early so we're going to have to fine you $60 dollars (per moderator). |
anybody else watch the deion interview on PTI and them talking about this with deion saying that coughlin took up half an hour of a meeting just to go over the fineable offenses including the uniforms and not being allowed to speak to the opposing players. I seriously think coughlins lost his mind doing this to grown men who've been doing this job for several years and he somehow thinks that treating them like children with the iq's of rocks is going to garner respect from the players. doesn't make too much sense to me but its not too bad if its causing chaos and discord in NY.

From what I've been reading about him lately.....is this guy wacko????

that'd be an affirmative. |

Sounds like he went off the same deep end that Marty S. did a few short years ago. Marty had an unbelieveable regular-season winning record as a disciplinarian until he came here and went over the top with it. Coughlin seems to be in even deeper... |
this guy is totally nuts...this is maybe the best thing ever except that it is not happening to the cowgirls.
|
It's just him. Every coach has his own idiosyncrasies, but he has a habit of taking it to the extreme. As Skins fans we saw it here in '01 with Schotteheimer. The Oklahoma drills on the first day, the dressing down of Darrell Green (the beginning of the end for Marty), and Tony Banks at qb (I mean he got cut by Dallas and then he's our starter? Did that season really happen?)
|
I love Coughlin. He needs to keep doing what he's doing. I give him one season and he's history.
|
i don't think i'd give him a whole season even...

Is T.C. nuts? Seems that way. Losing control? Not hardly. As for the over the top pre-season workouts there are some complaints to the players assoc. As well as several complaints about the fines from being "LATE" to meetings. And it's more than one or two players. The guy seems to think he's parcells without the respect. He is breaking the team down, for what he seems to think is for the better. (1) Assistants cannot talk to the media (2) Players cannot talk to the media without permission. (3) Fining of players over the most inane infractions. T.C will be here for more than 2 seasons you can count on that. Whether this hard nosed (or just plain stupid) tactic is for show (or for reasons we don't fully have an understanding of) will work is yet to be seen. It's week one and to say he will be gone next year is just plain silly. The giants have been lacking discipline on and off the field. They are lacking at many positions. The corners are suspect the FS stinks. The "D" line is weak. The "O" line is poor. Without basic discipline these (with the players on the roster) weakness’ cannot be address on any level. (E.g. poor tackling, missed assignments, ect, etc) |
kicking around players who simply don't have the talent to make the current schemes work is just dumb though... he should have gotten better players and prevented the firesale...
|
If it creates division and makes them weaker I'm fine with it. Don't like 'em.
|
This is what happens when an old disciplinarian meets a group of underachieving vets. Yeah, Coghlin is idiosyncratic, but he can coach football. Still, it will take time, and between now and then (if it works out), things are going to be turmoil. And in the spotlight of the NY press, no less.
But our job is to take care of business. Let's not be the stepping stone that allows Coughlin to win over the team! They are down; let's go up there and kick them!!! |
With his leadership style, he had better improve over last years record. Disciplinarian is one thing, Parcells does that great, crazy old dictator is something else... and thats what Coughlin looks like now. BUT, if he does improve the Giants record (a hard task in this division) the Giants players are sure be dealing with his methods for a few years.

I wish it didn't! :frusty: That year really sucked! |
The last season I remember is the one where we lost to the Niners in the Playoffs. I have some depressing stuff I'm repressing in between, and then there's last Sunday. Who's Marty? ;)
