One of our favorite local sports writers, Rick Snider, has an article at The Examiner today about how the decision by the DC United to leave the District for Prince George's County [that's in Maryland -- same county FedEx Field is located in, for all you fans from out of the area] could negatively affect whether or not the Redskins can ever return from exile.
I just hope they don't move to Virginia. Northern VA has the worst traffic in the area.

I think Fenty would support building a stadium for the Skins in DC. He knows the difference between the Skins and soccer.

fenty can support all he wants ,he doesn't have the money or land right now and nether does the Danny! For what it would cost him just to break the lease........he couldn't afford it,his companies are not doing real well right now.The new stadium for the Giants and Jets is almost at 2 billion(actually 1.750 B,I think)

Are the Giants getting a new stadium?

What a dumb idea, move the stadium back to DC on the edge of an economic collapse. Wow, you would be serving up suburbanites for real crime!!!!! Not to mention you might be also forcing them into traffic hell if Danny Boy wants to come close to Fedex's seating capacity!!!!!

I said yes, because the Redskins "belong" in DC, but really , this ain't happening anytime soon. that is the economic truth.

Re: DC United Move bad news for Skins Relocation?

DC won't build a stadium for the Skins for two important reasons:

1. The city does not have about $900M - 1.1B lying around waiting to be spent and with its credit rating it would have trouble borrowing that kind of money in almost any economic climate - - let alone this one.

2. The city would be tied up in lawsuits for ten years no matter where they tried to acquire enough land to build a new huge stadium with parking and road improvements.

Danny Boy isn't going to build his own stadium the way JKC did or the way Jerry Jones is doing. That is not his business model.

"Never" is too long a time horizon to say that the Skins will "never" be back in DC. But they won't be there anytime in the next 10-15 years...

The new economic model the entire world is facing will probably keep the Skins in Fedex for a very long time. No city is going to have the money to help finance another stadium like you said. Things are changing and this isn't going to be just a run of the mill recession/depression either. The American standard of living is going to be a lot lower for at least a generation if not more.

Don't listen to Gus Frerotte's economic analysis. He is still suffering from post-concussive symptoms.

Kinda what I meant when talking about the Danny. His wealth is (or was) tied up in paper and that's been going down daily. The Redskins are very valuable but alot is tied up on the value of the real estate that Fed Ex sits on,and that is going down by the day in todays market.
