Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
Skins Land Haynesworth - Redskins Insider
Dallas free agent defensive end Chris Canty, who had agreed at around 2 a.m. to visit Redskins Park, will not be coming here, and has other visits scheduled. He does not appear to be in Washington's plans now. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
Now this is news because he was scheduled to come here today and we dissed him.
That also means they didn't know if they could foot the Haynesworth bill when they scheduled Canty. We must be on thin cap ice after the Haynesworth signing. Man...it looks like we blew our load with Haynesworth. I think I rather of had multiple free agents instead of one big one. Haynesworth could get hurt and there goes our offseason improvements. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
He is headed to Tenneesse I read....Now I hope we can look for a OL player or two. If Vinny can do that and keep Taylor I would be a happy REDSKIN Fan!!!!!!! Now I need to get tickets to the Raiders/Redskins game out here!!!

Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
I was really hoping we could work some magic and fit Canty in. I was daydreaming of a starting d-line of Haynesworth, Canty, Griffin, and Taylor.

Jesus that would have been insane. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
Yeah I'm disappointed about Canty. Good young D linemen. Oh well. Can't get them all.

Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
This makes sense. With Haynesworth and Hall in the fold, and Dockery still on the radar, we're just flat out of cap space. We need a G more than we need Canty at this point.
Woulda been real cool to have him facing Dallas twice a year, but I can't complain about giving him up to get Albert. |

Cap is tight right now, maybe room for Dockery, maybe. We could release Springs and gain $6M in space, which will be enough for a big money OL, but I don't think we'll do that. They still love Springs. |

Why no Carter? Carter, Griffin, Haynesworth and Taylor looks good enough to me. How about your line with Taylor at LB? |

They still love Springs.
I hope you're wrong and they do. Springs is "the monkey on the back" of the Redskins. He hasn't played a full season in how many years? He's a complete waste of $6 million. Each and every year, he refuses to renegotiate his contract and never participates in off season workouts. Just my opinion but Springs should have been let go weeks ago, no matter what the outcome of Hall's status with the team would have been. Now that they have Hall signed, let him go! Use that $6 million for a FA O-lineman and our 1st round draft pick (hopefully an offensive lineman). |

Vinny was on 980, and he mentioned addressing the o-line, but also said he had to do some more work on clearing the cap room. Sounded real tired. I don't really have a link, and before he even mentioned the o-line, he said the draft picks from last year have to take the next step for the offense to be effective. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
why so dissapointed on canty? 10 career sacks in 4 seasons, i realize he was a 3-4 defensive end, but i think it would have been a gamble to get him too. id rather use the money elsewhere if we have any left
|
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
I'm thinking now that if we sign another lineman, I think we move back in the draft and take Mack or Robinson.

Why does everyone love Canty so much? He barely did anything in Dallas. Carter is better than Canty. |

Well there you have it, he's being released. They definitely recognize the need to get younger on the lines (especially headed into an uncapped world) is more valuable than having Springs around for just a season more or two. I like the move, I'm just surprised they were able to part with a player the coaches loved so much. Good job by the front office in making a business decision. |

He refused to take any kind of pay cut. I seriously doubt he finds $6M per year anywhere else. |

Canty might not have the pretty sack numbers but that could easily change in a 4-3 where he wouldn't be as occupied with taking on blocks, and he's very stout against the run. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
I guess I just figured we would be letting Springs go cause we signed Hall and Canty was a move that might be replacing Taylor or taking up Springs money.

There's a difference between a restructure and a pay cut. Redskins had wanted Springs to take a straight cut. |

I understand that. I guess I'm just kind of confused. We've restructured older, oft-injured players (Griffin most recently) in the past to help lessen our immediate salary cap issues. I guess I just don't understand why we never went that route with Springs. Is he not more valuable to the defense when healthy than Griffin? |

I'd say if we didn't resign Hall he would be more valuable but right now he's kind of a redundant player. Hall brings the same skill set, size and better playmaking ability but he's 9 years younger. If we didn't have Horton I could see us restructuring and extending Springs as our starting safety but we don't really have a fit for him. |

I just think you might as well just resign Evans if you want a player like that. Yeah, Canty is a little younger, but he would be more of a gamble because he's never played in the 4-3 and we probably would have had to pay him more. But none of this even matters anymore because we're not getting him anyway. |

I hear what you're saying. I wasn't suggesting we should have kept Springs for 2009, I was just kind of wondering why we never took the restructure route with him considering the past two season his cap # has been an issue. |

Geez, if he signs w/ Giants then we better magic up our O-line men.. |
Re: Canty "does not appear to be in Washington's plans now"
I know the Giants value DL depth above all else, but where in the world would he play in that defense? Three-technique?
