Post Your Draft Board
Preferably players we're expected to look at for the 13th pick but you're free to include other positions like CB and S. Anyway heres mine as of today. For those who don't know what a draft board it's a tool that Vinny uses to justify taking 3 pass catchers in the second round. Just kidding, it's really a tool that scouts use to evaluate players from a pure talent perspective. So basically do you think that Prospect A is a better LB then Prospect B is a Tackle or vice-versa.
1st Tier
1. Andre Smith - OT - Alabama - He can play LT but will be an elite RT in this league. He used to be considered top 5 for a reason. It's the usual combine politics that have dropped him so far.

2. Rey Maualuga - LB - USC - Relelentless. Don't know about his OLB prospects but worse case we'd have our replacement for Fletcher. On top of that I think he's going to be better then Lofu Tatupu.

3. Alex Mack - C - Cal - From a pure talent perspective Mack is among the best at what he does. However the fact that Centers are undervalued means Mack will not hear his name called for a while. Might be better then my personal favorite center prospect Ryan Kalil from the 2007 draft.
2nd Tier
4. Knowshon Moreno - RB - UGA - Clinton Portis is starting to show his wear and tear and I'm not to comfortable about Betts unless he's starting full time as he needs a few carries to get going. If we could add a free agent RT then I would have few objections about adding Knowshon, but fixing the problems at RT might be all we need to get the running game bakc on track.

5. Brian Orakpo - DE/LB - Texas - He's a very interesting prospect that deserves consideration and as the Giants say "you can never have to many D-lineman" He barely seems to be capable though of having the size to play LDE.

6. Michael Johnson - DE - Georgia Tech - I'm moving Johnson into my board now as the kid really is a freak of nature. Had he had 13 or 14 sacks this year he would have ended up being a sure fire top 3 pick. Still 9 sacks is by no means a bad year. Apparently the guy has the same type of frame as last years DE prospect Calias Campbell (Miami) and granted we were considering taking him as a LE I think we owe it to ourselves to give Johnson a long hard look. Either way he has the potential to be a sack artist in this league and the fact that we can get him on a trade down might be to much to pass up.
3rd Tier
7. James Laurinaitis- LB - Ohio State - He's a little on the smaller side, but he's a mean SOB. Explosive, gets after the run, rushes the passer. Just a football player. Would also give us Fletchers successor, a need that is more important then most people are letting on.

8. Lesean McCoy - RB - Pitt - Explosive running back that actually reminds me a little of Portis coming out of Miami. Same problem though in that both players have a pretty small frame.

9. Michael Oher - OT - Ole Miss - A personal favorite. Would be extremely relieved if we traded down and picked him up, but I keep getting a feeling that the front office will consider him a reach even in the late 1st round.

10. Tyson Jackson - DE - LSU - Even though we got Haynesworth the fact remains that we don't have that big body LDE right now that can anchor the left side on running plays. Evans might come back to us but right now I'd be willing to bet that he signs in New Orleans.
4th Tier
11. Brian Cushing - LB - USC - Can anyone tell me why Scout has Clay Matthews ranked highter then Cush at this point? Either way he plays hard and can rush the passer. Durability issues though should be a huge concern.

12. Peria Jerry - DT - Ole Miss - Doubt we even consider him with Haynesworth on board but he can get after the passer and stop the run or as I sometimes mistakenly type it 'stop the fun.' Ironic how it kind of ends up being true.
|
Re: Post Your Draft Board
Looks pretty good to me... DB I like your sense of humor a la Vinny's draft board.

Re: Post Your Draft Board
1.) Andre Smith-OT-#1 OT Pre-combine, Would be a steal at 13.
2.) Rey Maualuga-LB-Guy is a freaking machine, finally a LB who can cover. 3.) Brian Orakpo- DE/LB- Can play DE so Taylor can move to LB or vice versa 4.) DJ Moore-CB- Springs replacement, would play the nickle this year. Possible Rogers replacement?? 5.) Knowshon Moreno-RB- Would be a great compliment to Portis, but i bet we still stick with shitty Betts. 6.) Eben Britton-OT- Great player for RT 7.) Alex Mack- C- Anyone else sick of Rabachs play ,primarily in the red zone. False start, False start!!! 8.) Trade the pick!!!! |
Looks pretty good to me... Still I definitely think we should have at least added one lineman with those three picks but hopefully it'll end up working out. Jeremy Zutah I think would have been a great fit here |

Re: Post Your Draft Board
I will go ahead and say I'm not a huge "Draft Guy" in terms of players, I'll kind of see who everyone ends up talking about come April and decide who I want than...but I know the positions I want addressed:
- Offensive Line ( Tackle #1 for right side, another Guard) - Outside Linebacker -Defensive End - Quick, Speedy Runningback. |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
New thoughts
Trade down with the Pats at #23 add 2nd round #34 aquired from KC Or Trade out of the first Round ( Pats have #34,47,58) in the second round Im looking at adding OT Meredit,DE Ayers,OLB Freeman in the 2nd RD |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
my draft board would start with any random fallers (though there's maybe a 1% of that happening).
that's freak drops for guys like curry, crabtree, monroe etc that won't actually happen. after that I tend to believe RB, LBs, C, and most OGs are places where 2nd round picks will get you good starters at tiny contracts. the 1st round is the best place to get franchise QBs, LTs, pass rushing DEs, and stud DTs. DTs are the safest bet, followed by OTs. I wouldn't take mack, jerry, or lauranitis unless we trade down to the 20s at least. at LB i like rey and lauranitis, though both are probably too slow to work the seem effectively in a cover 2 defense. I think lauranitis is a better value even if his upside is a little lower, since you could trade down and still get him. at OL - any of the top tackles would be good, but I rather trade out of 13 for a pick (with say, the lions) if A smith was there. we need to come out with a guy to play now, and a higher bust % play at a spot we don't have a starter at is a bit risky. trading into the second could get you a duke robinson, sean smith, or maybe even max unger (if he falls slightly). at 13, the best picks would be oher or orakpo, followed by rey or trading down. I don't think we're looking at RBs, this is a bad class for them, and we've got soo much money tied up in portis right now (and we can't cut him any time soon either). the problem last year was the OL, not portis. we'd be better off (imo) going oher (if he's there). |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
I can't believe I didn't see this. I'll go to thirty, unless I don't feel like stopping.
1. Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest 2. B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College 3. Jason Smith, OT, Baylor 4. Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia 5. Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State 6. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech 7. Re: Post Your Draft Board
hey G, wouldn't another DT be overkill? rey over orakpo? mack at 12?
just asking ;). i think i'd shy away a little from jenkins due to speed concerns, but i can see why raji (if he slips to us) would be a fairly easy take... i'd rather have crabtree if we're talking about crazy draft falls though. |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
Updated draft board complete with pretty colors. I've also divided the players up into tier's as I think taking a player purely because he's one number higher on a draft board is ascenine. So for example if Knowshon Moreno and Michael Johnson are available when we pick (a Bulldog and a Yellow Jacket) the advantage would go to what we need more.
Anyway I'd like to see more draft boards so lets go, get them up. |

Re: Post Your Draft Board
My Draft board according to our needs
1. Aaron Curry OLB 2. Andre Smith T (he maybe stupid but he's young and the best all around T, IMO) 3. Jason Smith T (why behind the other smith, because this one has limited run blocking experience in college, Knee injuries) 4. BJ Raji DT (a huge force DT, reminds me a little of fat Albert Hayne$worth) 5. Brian Orakpo (very good pass rusher, that should stay at DE) 6. Michael Crabtree (Reminds me of Jerry Rice and TO in one, but TT offense and 40 time is a little bit of a question mark) 7. Eugene Monroe T (i'm a little cautious of this guy, I don't know y, but i am) 8. Aaron Maybin DE (very good pass rusher, but run defender, not really) 9. Knowshon Moreno RB (he'll be around when we pick, but the need for oline doesn't allow us to get him, plus i thought he ran a 4.3-4.4 fourty not a 4.6) 10. Michael Oher T (very good T who can play G, but gets sloppy, a little work with Buges and he'll be great) 11. Jeremy Maclin WR-RS (great speed guy like a steve smith but taller and hester fast, but he'll be gone by the time we pick, plus WR isnt an immediate need compard to other positions) 12. Rey Maualuga LB (is troy polamalu at LB, very very good LB with a few injury issues, definitley wouldnt mind us taking him at 13, and moving him to OLB for the year) 13.Larry English OLB-DE (looks a lot like Tsuggs, 2 time MAC defensive player of the year) 14.Robert Ayers DE (just started starting this year, and the DE's at Tennessee last year weren't that great, but he can definetly play) 15. Eben Britton T (very good pass protector, I don't see why we don't trade down and get him) 16. Tyson Jackson DE (is slow getting to QB but good run defender, basically a young philip Daniels) 17. Brian Cushing OLB (very good OLB, but gets injured a lot) 18. Clay Matthews LB DE? (just started playing this year, did decent when i saw him play, but not worth a first rounder to me at all) 19. Beanie Wells RB (isn't the kind of RB we need but is good, still wouldn't take him tho) 20 A. Alex Mack C (everyone loves this guy, and some say the best center in years) 20 B. Max Unger C/G/T (just a tad behind mack, only problem is that he never handed the ball to the QB, he always shotgun snapped it) 21. William Beatty T (he's alright, but ill pass on him, experts either say pretty damn good, or 2nd rounder) |

So would including 1.) Andre Smith-OT-#1 OT Pre-combine at 13 as you did. Post combine, "maybe". Lets hope. |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
Just wanted to throw out there Maualuga won't fall below the 16th overall i.e. if he's on the board San Diego will be thrilled to take him.
... that said i guess a trade-down scenario w/ the Lions is probably a good idea. Not sure who will be available w/ the 20th and 33th(?) overall picks and more importantly whether guys taken here would be able to start. I guess it's hard for me to believe the "starting" caliber OTs will still be available at 20 (for example i think this proved to be the case in last year's draft as only the tackles taken in the top half of the 1st round went on to start); however we could probably get a decent LB starter like Matthews at 20 and then a center @ 33 who would be an immediate upgrade over Rabach. Mack or Unger will in all likelihood still be available there. The big thing is this all hinges on our acquisition of the best available RT in FA... Willis, statistically, is that guy. I don't understand why he's still on the market, in fact it worries me. Zorn knows him. He's been here and interviewed. He's young, big, strong and should have a better headstart on the scheme than any other FA. What the deuce... |

It's just my overall board according to our needs, last year we had Glen Dorsey on our board, as the best player for us to get, but Vinny knew he wouldn't drop to us...its just a what if/for fun thing |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
A lot of people have forgotten about how bad our offense was last year, and we've done little about it so far this offseason. This Orakpo talk is ridiculous.
1st rd Best OT available at #13. Hopefully Oher. 3rd rd. Best C/G available. Hopefully Wood or Levitre. |
I just realized that Percy harvin is capable of playing running back, and since we need a receiver and a speed back and a returner, why not harvin??
cause he's not a guarantee by a long shot, and that's the 4th or 5th highest need we have, and he's probably not going to be taken when we're on the clock due to other players available and team needs at those spots. |

He's basically a lot like Reggie Bush except he actually knows his place. Then again this is coming from the same guy that said Brian Westbrook can't be an effective runner. |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
My first round draft board at thirteen would go as follows.
1. Aaron Curry 2. Jason Smith 3. Eugene Monroe 4. Brian Orakpo 5. B.J. Raji 6. Andre Smith When these players are gone I would rather trade down. If we cant I would draft them like this. 7. Michael Crabtree.(don't care how many we have. He is the next superstar receiver). 8. Everette Brown. 9. Michael Oher. I am lost after this point. 10. Tyson Jackson 11. Mathew Stafford 12. Mark Sanchez 13. Clay Mathews |
Re: Post Your Draft Board
This is my picks 1-15 for the Redskins:
1. Aaron Curry> 2. Jason Smith> 3. Eugene Monroe> *probably the first three guys to go in the entire draft 4. Michael Oher 5. Alex Mack 6. Andre Smith 7. Brian Orakpo 8. Everette Brown 9. BJ Raji 10. Michael Crabtree 11. Tyson Jackson 12. Clint Sintim 13. Eben Britton 14. Aaron Maybin 15. LeSean McCoy This is literally meant to be read: If I was in charge, we would take the highest available player on this list at No. 13, should a trade down situation be unreasonable. |

I honestly think that the actual Redskins draft board looks something like this near the top
1. Aaron Curry 2. Andre Smith (Cerrato cited Smith as a top 2 pick before all the leaving the combine drama and he really does trust those pre-combine evaluations more then the results from after the combine) 3. Michael Crabtree 4. Brian Orakpo 5. Eugene Monroe 6. BJ Raji 7. Jason Smith 8. Rey Maualuga 9. Mark Sanchez 10. Matthew Stafford |
