Shaun Alexander at Redskin Park

I hope they don't sign this guy again. Trade coming for Betts.....? Not trying to read much into this...just strikes me as a little odd.

He was terrible here. Maybe they are going to hire him as the running backs launderer. He'll clean Portis' pants.

Re: Shaun Alexander at Redskin Park

What did he do that was terrible? He had 11 carries. How could it hurt to bring him in during the pre-season.

A lot of people think it is o.k. to bring back Doughty who is a "never was" and a "never will be" so what would be wrong with giving a "has been" a shot with a minimum contract. At least this guy could bust out of a wet paper bag a couple years ago. The only thing that Doughty gives you is a few tackles on special teams and getting toasted on long completions if he gets isolated.

I completely disagree.

First off, Reed played well when he stepped in when we lost ST. And has always been a solid teamer. So I don't get the never has or will be part? Yes he lost his starting job to a better Horton. But, we found a diamond in the rough in the late round of the draft. GREAT PICK for us!

Give SA another chance will it hurt,of course not. But he was something and turned to nothing. Point blank, theres a reason no other team in the league will pick him up for even vet min don't you think. We gave him a shoot when Betts went down he had 11 carries for 24 yards, 2.1 avg. I would have to think that was a good chance (maybe last) to prove he still had something left in the tank.

Doughty did play well for ST for a few games, then he came back to earth. He was toast as a rookie and has never displayed adequate coverage skills. If you get any mediocre tight end or wideout isolated on him you are guaranteed a big play.

I know what Alexander's stats were but I don't think you can judge anyone on 11 carries over a few games. That is not an audition. Now give him 10-15 carries in a pre-season game and if he gets 25 yards then fine.

Point being, if Doughty is worth bringing back for some reason, there is no reason that Alexander isn't worth bringing back for a tryout too.

If Alexander offered the same tackles, this would be a different story, but if the question is "What makes Doughty more deserving of a roster spot than Alexander," I think the answer is obvious.

I have said it before, don't be surprised if Doughty gets cut. I think Horton and Moore are better players and much better uses of a roster spot. I like Mike Green more as well.

Re: Shaun Alexander at Redskin Park

SA might not be bad as a 3rd down back at this point in his career, except he can't block.

I've kinda bought into JLC's reporting/opinions on the insider; Portis is no longer a home run hitter. Actually, I wonder if betts has more big play potential at this point.

They signed the Aldridge kid, who's a speedster & that's what we need at rb, a young speedy guy that can break big plays.

I guess Kelly, Thomas , Davis and R. El will get cut as well , since they have done nothing , and the three rookies combined have less than half the work ethic of Doughty . I think we get that Doughty is never going to lock up with WR's , but few safeties are . It wont matter much if we don't get lucky and find a DE .

You don't make a team better by signing a liability with a good work ethic.

To pick up some mail. He has stayed in this area and been in touch with some of the coaches every couple of weeks. He's still looking to get picked up. I doubt it will be here though.

Every team needs some camp bodies and that's all SA is right now. Colt needs someone to run plays with. Let him have the dream of playing one more season while grunting in a camp. Then cut him in August.

If he want to still play for us, let him have a try out and we can always cut him in the preseason. I dont think if he has anything left but if he could be like a Gerald Riggs he could stay.

he did fine for the opportunities he got...

Doughty is a Special Teamer..who because on injuries and a murder..was forced up the depth chart..he has had good moments and bad moments...he
has to win a spot in camp...he has no special edge other than the hard work he's already put in...look how long Ade Jimoh lasted and Reed is exponentially a better talent than he ever was..

They are interchangable. Exponentially better? Give one shred of evidence.

Actually, I take that back. They are not interchangeable. Jimoh had better coverage skills.

Lol. He has accomplished more than any Redskin running back in the last 17 years. If I could have a softer back who would win an MVP and take us to the Superbowl I would trade for him tomorrow.

Jimoh was supposed to be a corner..only thing was he couldn't shut down
anyone..you want some proof..you tell me one receiver Jimoh could stay with?
I remember Pinkston of the Eagles lighting him up..he only has 2 passes defended in 5 years and averaged less than one tackle a game

but in the terms of viable contribution

they were both special team players that hung on and were forced to play defense...Doughty's 11 tackles vs in the win over the Giants in '07 at Strong Safety was more a contribution than Jimoh ever made...and we went on to make the playoffs with him on the field..when Troy Polamalu makes 11 tackles he makes player of the week

I know what position Jimoh was. I remember when Spurrier drafted him. I know he was lit up a lot but like you mentioned, he was a cornerback. Doughty is a safety. Typically corners have better coverage skills than safeties.

O.k. he had one good game. What about all the games he contributed to losing by getting abused by mediocre pass catchers?
