Yeah, but he was indicted today and can face up to 6 months for 1 charge, and 30 days for the other charge. |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
vallin, i'm pretty sure he can't face 6 months for either charge.
|
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
or both combined lol
|
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
Will he be suspended by the league is my question/concern???
|
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
this is non-news. when i was 21 or so i was "indicted" on those same charges in north carolina (110 in a 70 on interstate 40 at 1am). I got a $300 lawyer, paid a fine, and my insurance was jacked up for 3 years, but thats it.
i'm not trying to minimize haynesworth recklass behavior or the fact that someone else was a bad driver and got in a wreck as a result of Haynesworth's driving - someone could have been killed. On a moral level, its careless behavior. but on a legal level, these charges are nothing. Sure, the MAXIMUM punishment here is up to 7 months in jail, but Haynesworth wont see any of that. At worst, he'll have to do some community service, but he's not going to jail and I would be shocked if Goddell even bothered to suspend Haynesworth for any games. |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
Suspended for a traffic vioaltion ? I highly doubt it.
|
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
GASP! Who cares? It's an irrelevant traffic offense.

I was going to say the same thing. |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
non issue. everyone take a deep breath
|
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
As a repeat offender, this will get an 8-game minimum suspension. Somebody call Jason Taylor!
In his defense, he thought the gas pedal was Andre Gurode's head. Simple mistake. |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
Some states require that charges get filed against a person if they cause an accident. By reading this it seems they just filed the charges against him (after an investigation of the accident) because he turned himself in and was released today. I'd also guess because he was trying to pass the other person the standard charge for this is reckless driving and the other charge gets thrown out if he shows to have the car registered. He goes to court and the judge reduces the reckless driving down to something else and its a done deal. Thats the legal part but I'm sure he is going to get a nice fat lawsuit but that could depend on the states laws. I would also guess that the Redskins knew all about this and did not think it was that big of a deal.

From NFL.com: "Haynesworth, a former Tennessee Titan who signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins last month, was released after surrendering Wednesday. Maximum punishment is six months in jail and a $500 fine on the reckless-driving charge and 30 days and a $50 fine for the other charge." |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
If he could funnel all of his rage to playing within the rules on Sundays, look out.
I would expect this gets resolved without affecting his playing time. No one was happier to see him receive $42 million guaranteed than the accident victim... |

Someone call Jackie Childs. Or Lionel Hutz. "The Driver of the other car was who now...?" I never get this lucky. If a millionaire ever hits me with his car, I'll be killed and my stupid family will get all the money. |

Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
The story doesn't say that he ran into the other car, just tried to pass him and the guy hit the concrete divide? Worse thing that happens is that he gets his license suspended for 6 months maybe a year, and he has to go to traffic school. I just got popped with a 70/45 a year ago, and I have a history of speeding. I had to go to Agressive driving classes (200 bucks), and pay a fine of 150.00. After that was done they dropped it to a 54/45.
He won't see any jail time, unless the judge wants to set an example of him. Also, he can expect to pay the other driver a LOT of money when he sues him. |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
I like his first violation. 103 in a 70 LOL.

hey, how are you feeling about ridding the cowboys of 3 of the locker room cancers( Jones, Owens, and Johnson)? |
Re: Haynesworth indicted on two traffic charges.
This is nuts. From my point of viiew AH did every thing right. He never came in contact with the other car, stayed at the scene and was NOT cited by the officers at the time of the accident. Now here it is almost 4 months later and he is being charged with 2 misdemeanor driving offenses. I wasn't there but this whole situation seems fishy to me.
I'll bet the charges get dropped. In fact, i'm so sure i'll bet a sig on it.....any takers? |

Yea, I guess that was kind of a dumb question. Just seems like Goodell likes to suspend guys these days and with the threat of jail time (highly unlikely) and Haynesworth's past behavior I figured he'd be anxious to drop a suspension here. HAIL! |

Different states have different laws. There is a good chance that because someone was injured that the state requires that the police investigate the accident and right up a report. There is also a good chance that the state requires that the police ticket the person that they find at fault in the accident. If he was found to have run the person off the road (even by accident) that could be considered reckless driving in that state. That's a major violation so he would have to come to the station and receive the ticket because the violation could result in jail time. Most of the time the ticket is giving on the scene and its very very rare that anyone does time for reckless driving ticket. I'd bet that its reduce to something like carless driving. The only reason this is news is because we have thousands of people reporting on anything so they have a job. |

I'll bet the charges get dropped. In fact, i'm so sure i'll bet a sig on it.....any takers?
You made an excellent point. Not to justify his "reckless driving," but i agree with you there. He could very well have sped away from the scene and lied about it if confronted with it by police. Instead, he stayed (knowing full well the injured motorist, realizing who he was, would one day sue the crap out of him for millions of dollars). He made a mistake, but he "manned up" and did the right thing by staying and talking to the police. If anything, this incident shows Haynesworth is someone who wants to do the right thing. |

‘SKINS SHIELDING HAYNESWORTH FROM THE MEDIA Posted by Mike Florio on March 15, 2009, 3:22 p.m. Last week, Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was indicted in connection with a December 2008 auto accident that he allegedly caused by driving his Ferrari too fast. This week, the Redskins are launching offseason workouts. And, in an e-mail regarding said workouts, the Redskins have made it known that Haynesworth will not be made available to the media. The guy gets a $41 million contract, and the team already is hiding him from the press. Yeah, this is gonna work out just great. |
