Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
Patriots appear primed to make a deal with Panthers for Peppers
The trade that sent Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs appears to be only the first phase of some major wheeling and dealing by the New England Patriots this offseason. The second phase, NFL sources say, is likely to involve a trade that would send Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers to the Patriots in exchange for the second-round pick (34th overall) they received from the Chiefs on Feb. 28. According to league sources, the Patriots and Panthers are hoping to complete the deal at some point between the March 22-25 NFL owners meetings and the start of the draft on April 25. |

Not really a mystery how the Patriots win consistently. |

Yea, if we could ever get a QB like Brady. |

We have our own 6th round gem in Colt haha |

Yeah, they sucked with Cassel last year. |

Seriously. Unreal. Isn't Peppers worth a 1st round pick though? |
Seriously. Unreal. Isn't Peppers worth a 1st round pick though?
Exactly, if I were the Panthers, I'd be asking for on of their 1st rounders at least (shoot, the 1st and 2nd rounder, or 1st and 3rd). Maybe Darth Hoody has the Panther under his spell and he'll get Peppers with just that second rounder. Ugh, I guess I should be prepare for an orgy of Pats complimenting in this thread. How easy ppl forget how Darth Hoody ran up the score on us two years ago. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
For a 2nd rounder, I say that's a pretty good trade.
|

He definitely is, maybe Panthers couldn't find a partner to trade with and receive 1st round? I don't know |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
Peppers = 2nd rounder > than Taylor = 2nd + 6th Rounder = Redskins Fail

LOL! For real. I dig your math. |

Any FO in the NFL > Panther's FO giving up Peppers for just a 2nd rounder. Funny how you forgot to point out this equation. |

And the football gods settled the score in the Super Bowl. That doesn't mean their football operations are not impeccable. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
Yeah I'd have to say that Panther fans have to be more irate at giving Peppers for a 2nd than us at getting Taylor for a 2nd and a 6th.
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
If this trade goes down like this, then I can't help but wonder...do the Pats really miss Pioli, and was he maybe not the magical personnel wiz in New England we all thought he was?
|

to be fair though they know that its the 2nd pick in the 2nd round. our second round pick was a mystery. it could have been any pick, maybe ever the first, lol. A boats a boat but the box could have been anythign, it could have even been a boat!! |

And it would make Bill Parcells' feat of getting a 2nd/6th for Taylor look like nothing compare to getting Peppers for a 2nd rounder. Maybe Darth Hoody wants to show Parcells off with this trade. Not to mention that his defense would be ridiculous. Once again, I can't believe the Pats are giving up just a 2nd rounder, there's gotta be more to this. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
anything is better for the Panthers than have a malcontent pouting and taking up cap room. Peppers has already proven that he's willing to cash his checks but not try when he's unhappy.

If all they are excepting is second, then why don't we step up to the plate. Just think of the pass rush that we will be able to generate with Haynesworth and Peppers on the same side of the line. This can make our other defensive needs a lot less glaring. |

You could argue the opposite as well, sort of. Maybe Pioli was SO good that he groomed the staff underneath him to be able to take the baton and keep running at full speed without him. Maybe that's why the Pats were willing to let him walk. We know the Pats epitomize "team" as well as anyone. Maybe their front office structure is the same way. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
For a 2nd round pick if I'm the Pats I'd make the trade. In '07 he played awful, but last year was a contract year so I expected him to put up good numbers. He's older (29) but he's still has alot left. That would be a good trade given that they play a 3-4 which Peppers wants to be in.
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
If the Panthers deal Peppers for a second round pick they are out of their minds!
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
the pats, (who i hate the most of any time in the league...yes even the cowboys) look like they're poised for another year like 2 years ago if this peppers thing really does go down...they've already gotten springs, galloway, fred taylor, chris baker, leigh bodden, greg lewis, and now they want to get peppers, all this doesn't even include what ever ridiculous picks they get in the draft....god i hate them soo much, but if Brady gets hurt again, then none of this really matters....
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?

....and a coach like Belicheck(sp) doesn't hurt.:goodjob: |
Yeah I'd have to say that Panther fans have to be more irate at giving Peppers for a 2nd than us at getting Taylor for a 2nd and a 6th.
And there's the hilariousness irony of the situation: They could trade a 2nd rounder for Peppers, or they could NOT trade a 2nd round pick and get Jason Taylor.
We, apparently, are not worthy. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
I would trade next years number 1 for peppers in a heartbeat.
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
The 34th overall pick for Julius Peppers seems like a pretty fair deal, to be honest. The Panthers might actually come out on top if Peppers makes a poor transition to a 3-4 OLB. But as far as reimbursement, the 34th pick in this draft gives the Panthers a more than fair chance to grab a replacement or better.

! (j/k, kind of) |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
He said he wanted the trade to be a stand up end, will NE do that?
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
Carolina is in a bit of a bind being that he wants out and there is not alot of teams on his list left to play for. Id make that trade in a heartbeat if i am the Pats. Geez... the skins should just trade to the bottom of the first, add some picks later in the draft and trade the late first for Peppers. Not sure if we would have the cap room to do such a move but our D would be the shit!
|
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
I f#ck*ing hate the Pats... that's all I wanted to add. I f%ck@ing hate 'em.

I second that. I bet if the Skins were trying to trade for Peppers ppl would be going insane up in here. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
Wait... i do have another thought. My perfect season has us in the SB w/ New England. Our defense smashes Brady all night long and then when he does get the ball off he's intercepted, so I'm thinking like 6 or 7 sacks and 3 INTs (Landry and Hall). Our offense, get this, plays smashmouth four quarters straight w/ a huge variety of rushing plays and it works. CP, Betts and Sellers all get carries and we sprinkle in reverses and screens that get Moss and Devin the ball. By the end of the game New England is totally wrecked, there's not even a word spoken on their sideline. This is peace...

This is too complicated, I just want Brady to go down again and for Peppers to fail. Oh and for NE to have a winning record again and not make it to the playoffs. LOL. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
I am amzed. Does the rest of league just want the Pats to suceed? The 34th pick isn't bad but he is worth more. I am suprised people even deal with the Pats any more. They always seem to be ripping other teams off.

:towel: heh heh that was pretty cool. |
Re: Patriots Prepping to Pick Peppers from Panthers?
btw, i think the mad rush of the patriots signing released players was so that they could get more comp picks next year. either that our they really like signing hordes of crappy players...

Why do teams always lie about attempting a trade: Panthers deny Peppers to Patriots trade report - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
