No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Receivers all missing from Redskins workouts - Redskins 360 - Washington Redskins Blog - The Washington Times
Pretty disappointing that none of the WR, especially Thomas and Kelly, are at the Park yet. It's just day 2 and all that is going on is some weight lifting and measuring fitness but since so much of our success in '09 depends on their production it would be nice to see them making the extra effort. I'm not going to ream them too badly (I'm sure there will be plenty of that) since these first 2 days aren't TOO vital and Moss, Thrash & ARE are also not there. They need to be here more than absent though, that's for sure! Let's see them show up at mini camps and training camp in top shape and start erasing some doubts though. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
These aren't mandatory. Not serious
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
They may not be mandatory, but alot of other guys are there. Not the start I was hoping for. You would think that after last year they would be itching to prove something. Maybe that's just me though...
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
At least all of them aren't there; rather than all but one or two...................at least there keeping it together, you know? :)
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Last year, Santana decided to take it easy during this time of the year to rest his hamstrings. It worked. Kelly and Thomas both had hamstring issues last year, so I'm not too upset about them choosing to not show up right now.

Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Season over.
These aren't mandatory. Not serious
This is true, Its not serious. I thought I read somewhere that MK is rehabing a procedure on his knee? Maybe it was DT. Am I wrong? anyway, I'll bet that Zorn isn't too pleased with this, JC either. If they were trying to practice plays or something like that then I would be concerned, until then you have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Is practicing plays even allowed in the offseason workout program or is this strictly conditioning type stuff? This program is different than OTA's right? |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
This is just workouts, weight training and conditioning stuff, not running plays.
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Its obvious I didn't read the article becaus eit says something about MK's knee.
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
None of us know whats going on. It could possibly be the position coach (cough, cough, Hixon) told them to not show up until Wed. or Thurs after everyone else was finished. Or perhaps cause he's not able to be with them for what ever reason so he said hey come later.

yup! totally! Thank you for that, LOL |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
I think Malcolm Kelly is gonna have to end up getting microfracture surgery or something. Dude's got glass knees.
Devin Thomas is just an immature bonehead. This isn't that big of a deal, but you'd think that if THEY thought they wanted to make an impact this year, they'd be there like the vets getting ready. |

Cut 'em all. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Not really a big deal. But it is worth noting since Zorn's major criticism of them last year was their poor work ethic leading up to camp.

Yeah, not quite Zorn's sentiment there. |

They failed their fitness test. Wr's and DB's are usually the fittest guys on the team. Very surprising they failed. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
As long as Zorn knows why they're not there that's all that matters. Could be prior obligations, medical reasons, family stuff, etc.
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
not feelin it.
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
I think the receivers were having a meeting at mc d's getting Filet-O-Fish sandwiches

In that case I understand. It's hard to resist a nice soggy filet-o-fish. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
I just can't give them a pass so easily. They make alot of cash and weren't exactly setting the league on fire last year. Seems like they could find a way to get there for the first day...
Besides conditioning, isn't there route running and such at these things too?? |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Kelly and Thomas have spent a large portion of the off-season at Redskin Park working out. So, nothing to worry about right now really
Where is the thread about Clinton Portis showing up when he wasn't expected to? |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Also, I believe Zorn said a while back that Kelly wouldn't be participating in any sort of running drills until later in the OTAs schedule, to rest his knee and have it fully ready for summer and the season
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Wasn't Randel El there at this time last year trying to get the playbook from Zorn so he could start running routes?

Do you really want to go?...No, but unless you have other plans you kind of obligate yourself so you don't look like an ungrateful ass. Let's treat them like any co-worker who didn't show up to that party and not tell them about the Christmas bonus checks that were passed out. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Bust on Thomas and Kelly all you want for not being there but fact is none of the WR's are there. Kinda tells you something. Perhaps they weren't supposed to be there or they were told don't show till later.

Where is the thread about Clinton Portis showing up when he wasn't expected to?
There's only three types of people: Those who don't care about off-season workouts, those who only care because they want to know what the heck is going to screw the team over this year, and those who want to make fun of the pessimistic bunch. Portis didn't chew out any coaches, so he's not going to get any pub. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Kelly's knee problems scare the hell outta me. Season ended for us 14 weeks ago and he's still not running evidently... can someone explain the history a bit here. Did Kelly miss a lot of time in college from this or did his knees start to deteriorate (rapidly) just as his pro career started?

Kelly had some problems with his knee in college but not this much. He had surgery in the offseason to help correct this problem and there's no reason to rush him at this point. They want to make sure it's fully healed I'm sure. I think Portis found out last year that coming in was a good thing after getting almost 1500 yards. I heard that he realized how Fred Taylor had prolonged his career this way. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
I think the wideouts read our thread about Torry Holt....it must have shaken their fragile confidence...I heard they are all huddled in a corner crying for their mommy.
|
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
Kelly came to the Skins "pre-injured". He did not need to play in an actual NFL game to incur those problems.
Everyone knew he had had knee problems in college. The Skins took a chance that he was over them. Clearly he was not. |

With the value of the resources invested, not to mention the staggering opportunity cost, I'd want a very clean bill of health for my 1st and 2nd round prospects as a team's GM... incidentally this is one reason I think Orakpo is the biggest risk in this years draft, especially as a top ten pick. |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
If it isn't mandatory some people aren't going to show up. If I were Thomas especially, I would show up even if there wasn't anything for me to do. I would go out on the atroturf field and practice field goals in case our regular kicker get hurts. I would sleep on the couch in the players lounge. I would take a dump in La Canforas briefcase. Anything. Something.

If we used DT as a KR and possibly PR i think we'd be close(r) to getting our value for him... |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
For the record, I'm still very confident Kelly will be our top receiver one day. Just not surprised by the fact that we took a health risk before any other team.

I don't know about totally overvalued, most teams had him as the first or second WR in the draft last year. He was the 2nd WR drafted so how was that overvalued? |
Re: No Redskins WR have attended 1st 2 days of workouts
GTripp is still upset because he was ranked so high after only one year of college production. For some reason he also has a hard on for guys that have the most college starts.
Not that I blame him...I just don't completely agree. |
