Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
With all of the rumors circulating around Jay Cutler, and the ridiculous rumors surrounding a trade involving the Skins, it occured to me. Zorn may have already hand picked his future QB in the 6th round of the 2008 NFL draft. Two points:
1). A trade for Cutler isn't at all feasible. Forget Campbell (who still has potential), the prospect of trading Cooley or Landry (two of our dynasty's building blocks) in order to get a trade done is outlandish and will never happen. 2). More importantly. Zorn built his NFL reputation on the fact that he groomed a raw and unknown 6th round QB into a perennial pro-bowler. His first draft as head coach, he selected a QB in the 6th round who others considered raw, Colt Brennan. BTW- Brennan just happens to hold numerous NCAA passing records and played in a pass happy offense. He posess excellent accuracy, a necessity in the WCO. Who else thinks Brennan will subplant JC is we stumble next season? |

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
No I don't want to give up Cooley and Landry, and I don't see Brennan taking over this year, even if Campbell got injured we'd plug in Collins. We did pay Collins good money to stay, and perform when needed.

I think "the one who shall not be named" will be the number two QB next season. I think OP brings up a good point. If Campbell struggles early, will Zorn put his job security in JC? I could see "the one who shall not be named" starting mid season if JC struggles early. |

CB thread #1 of 2009; can we get a poll on how many there will be? LOL |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Everybody knows the only reason that Colt isn't starting is because the NFL deemed him too dangerous to play in regular season games. They know he will break every passing record ever created in his first month as a starter and they don't want to undo 100+ years of NFL History.
|
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Don't get me wrong I like Colt, but I also think Jason deserves a chance to be in a system for more than 1 year before we say he's not good enough, I could see if he has been in the system for a while and not showing improvement, but remember the 6-2 start he was brilliant..So let's give him another year in the system and see what happens before we replace him with Colt( who has not played in 1 single regular season game) and I've yet to see anything that say's he's better than Jason.

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
This is a stupid thread. I know there aren't any news, but come on.
|
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
yeah, what he said :)
|
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
It's not THAT bad of a thread. First of all, Campbell really hasn't done much in the NFL thus far. Secondly, he wasn't drafted by Zorn. This means that Zorn doesn't have an attachment to him that say Gibbs would (since he drafted him.) Zorn will (and thus far, has) given Campbell a fair shot -- but if he doesn't make large strides this year, I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Colt a bit or another QB he picks up. I must say, I'd like to see Colt get some live game action in garbage time sometime.
Personally, I would love to have Cutler on this team -- but not for one of the two great young players we have. You hold on to those players with a firm grip. |

Brennan is 2-3 years away....then he turns into Favre!

SHHHHHHHH !!!!! The NFL does not want the truth told to the public :) |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Guys lets be real, there's only 2 QB'S that could start for us in '09... Campbell or Cutler (I think we will atleast try and get him) I do like Colt but Campbell is better for us right now. And Cold was our 3rd QB last year and maybe again this season, and the best team he faced in his career in college was vs GA and we know what happened then!
|
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
completely off topic, but since i am so qb'd out, why cant we get a qb whose name doesn't start with a C.
That means no to: Campbell Collins Cutler and Colt. Who can we get then??? |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Colt is what he is - a backup. As in, he's there to back up Campbell (and Collins at this point), should something happen to one or both of them.
It always amazes me that all of the Colt Cult won't acknowledge that he didn't even beat out a 38 year old for the 2nd spot last year, yet they scream he's the next coming at the position. I'm curious to see if he could be a good player (against 1st stringers in the REGULAR season), but I'll wait until A) Jason starts playing horribly and B) Colt can actually win the job as #1 clipboard holder. |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
:benched:
|
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Reasons why JC is better for us than CB:
-is it fair to say campbell can throw a football 35+ yds further than CB? -if JC played 4 years at Hawaii, they would name a volcano after him and deem him a god -campbell has better mobility than brennan and is getting used to facing NFL defenses -brennan cannot throw a deep ball; which is moss's biggest play and our best big-play Honestley, just because Campbell ended the season on a bad note doesnt mean he doesnt still have great potential. Before week 8 would you even consider benching him? |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Lets take a look at the comparable drafted QB's since in the last 10 years....not very impressive, I'd say. The reality is the only 1 that didn't suck was Campbell....thanks to Gibbs hand picking him and him having 1st/2nd round talent.
Our FO sucks at picking QBs period...especially late...they need an experienced Head Coach to do it for them Look at these later QBs: Todd Husak 6th in 2000 Sage Rosenfels 4th in 2001...ok...got a touch lucky but the jury is way out and he was a 4th rounder hand picked by Marty. Gibran Hamden 7th in 2003 Jordan Palmer 6th in 2007 or the GLORIOUS Colt Brennan 6th in 2008... Pa-leeze... I'd love to see this guy complete a pass beyond 20 yards without getting anything get batted down. Dont get me wrong...I think he's roster worthy and could develop into a decent #2...but to suggest he is a contender for a starting role is crazy. But I understand if you are totally bored |

And we can discuss him then. |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that none of you has any idea what you are talikng about when it comes to Colt Brennan.
The franchise can't even figure out what they have in Jason Campbell after three years and you people think you can evaluate Colt Brennan's future after one year as the backup to the backup? UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. No. |

Denver wants to try and repair its relationship with Jay Cutler. But, if by the end of the weekend that doesn’t happen, then the Broncos will strongly consider putting him on the market. And the Redskins remain one of the teams a league source says would be interested in the Pro Bowl quarterback. Washington has strongly denied interest in trading for Cutler. But the league source insisted they would be one of a handful of teams that would like to acquire Cutler. The New York Jets, Tampa Bay were two of the other teams with Tennessee perhaps a possibility as well. “A minimum of five teams are motivated to do something and maybe even seven,” the source said. “Washington is one of them. …[But] Denver will try to resolve the situation.” It’s debatable whether or not the Redskins would have enough to make the deal happen. Denver likely would want a quarterback in return and perhaps another player or a draft pick. Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell has one year left on his deal and the franchise has not made any movement toward extending his contract. Sounds like we are still interested in Cutler. |

Funny!!!!!! Brennan just might be the future, but JC is the starter for '09 and if he doesn't really improve his ass is gone. Can't see why all these folks are still so sold on him. I can see thinking he is a decent QB, but you have guys thinking he is our franchise QB. I just don't see it in the guy. Regardless of the offensive schemes he has had to learn, his mechanics and poise are the problems. Schemes shouldn't affect those all that much. I just don't see JC just all of a sudden blooming into a perennial pro bowler after a medicore season last year and an average career thus far. Remember the QB is only as good as the team surrounding him also. The team as a whole is mediocre(especially offensively) so that in itself hurts JC. Haynesworth will help for sure, but will it help an otherwise inept offense that much? |

Yeah, but what calibre of team surrounded Colt at Hawaii? Could you imagine what Colt could have done, say at Florida, Florida St, Oklahoma? THe bastard would have still set NCAA passing records and then some!!!! JC was from a top Div 1-A school that had two first round running backs as the featured weapons, and a huge o line. Does JC have any Auburn passing records? |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
forget giving people time...you either get it done...or you don't! plain and simple, and JC is too hesitant on his throws. Santana Moss even said it dudes. I for one won't be suprised if JC gets the axe this year.

Would Timmy Chang have posted in a more pro-like offensive system that doesn't practically throw every down? The one thing that makes Colt better than Chang is his completion percentage. BTW, one of his receivers, Davone Bess, is with the Dolphins and has had playing time. |

ya lets give jason a chance what the hell was the last 2 years?this was his chance to take us to the playoffs after a great start at 6-2 he faded down the stretch ended by losing to the 49ers |

the problem is we will not have a good season if cambell does not play well in his last year as a redskin. If we do not make the playoffs then whats the point! start collins put jason as backup and go from there |
Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Sure... Brennan is a proven future superstar.
They are completely sold on his ability to win superbowls. That's explains why they are bringing Sanchez in for a visit this week. |

JC is the unquestioned starter and should be.[/quote] For now he should be. He has 16 more games as a Skin to prove he should remain the starter. Personally, I don't think we won't have another franchise type QB for awhile. I predict we will go through JC and his succesor til we actually find one. Thing is Zorn's job might also rest on this season, so we might have yet another HC to deal with in 2010. IF JC doesn't make great strides in his play, drop the guy. HE will be too expensive to just be a backup. |
