After the fiasco-Please no QB talk! ;-)

Now that we're past the madness of the past two days of love and hate for Campbell and Cutler can we now resume our regularly scheduled offseason already in progress?

Now that Daniels is officially back in the fray and Blache is talking about playing Wilson some at SLB what are your gnawing concerns going into these 3 weeks before the draft? How many starters are you hoping we come away with on draft day?

Re: After the fiasco-Please no QB talk! ;-)

Great thread. I'm all for moving past the QB crap. I like the idea of moving Wilson to SLB...he's got good speed and I think he could develop into a very solid LB. My concerns moving forward are OT, DE and LB (there are no guarantees Wilson will work out at all). With the 13th pick, I think the Skins should seriously consider trading down and acquiring more picks. This might allow for them to fill 2 of the 3 pressing needs. Plus paying second rounders is much more cap friendly than the 13th overall pick.

HAIL!

trade down. trade down. trade down.

At least it was something to talk about. It was getting pretty desperate before the Culter story came along.

The offseason was taking its toll on the dull ass threads of the offseason. Revel in the excitement while you can because they are few and far between in the offseason.

Don't ruin my major breaking news buzz.

Pssshhh. The QB controversy is only dead for as long as Danny wants it to be.

Hopefully he doesn't do anything rash before draft day. I think Rey has to be seriously considered now @ 13 w/ his impressive showing yesterday. Speed/explosiveness were the biggest concerns and he put them to rest for good. My bet is Oher and Rey are the best talents available @ 13 cuz the other top OTs will be gone as well as the real DE talent. I won't complain a bit w/ either man. What I will complain about is a trade-down scenario where we miss out on real impact talent and just get more projects like our young WRs, Rinehart, etc. You can't pass on top grade talent year after year and expect to compete in the NFL.

...on the other hand if we can just trade down a few spots and still get Oher or Rey along w/ another pick I'll jump for joy and call Vinny a genius (Danny's still a d-bag though regawdless.)

Paintrain 04-02-2009 11:33 PM

Re: After the fiasco-Please no QB talk! ;-)

So let's assume we pick either Rey or Oher at #13. What's going to be the tougher transition, from ILB to OLB or from LT to RT? Either way we'd be drafting someone high and playing them out of position until their 'true' position opens up. Is that the best course of action for this year?

I've been on the Everrett Brown, Alex Mack, Clay Mathews, and Jason Smith band wagon for awhile.

I'll tell you what, I'll be glad if we get one of these guys. It would also be good if we got Rey, Orakpo, Cushing, Oher, Monroe, Wood, Barwin, or any other guy that is driven and has talent.

I wouldn't even be totally pissed with Andre Smith or BJ Raji. As long as we don't trade away our picks for something nice and shiny or a QB.

I've my fingers crossed they'll wait until next year to draft a QB. Hopefully they'll not have to. Go Soup, Todd, and Colt.

So basically you're all about everyone in the first round. ;)

By no means, it's just the most important pick in IMO. I want to trade down and get more second and third round guys personally. My point is that it would be just a waste to spend any pick on Cutler or anyone else at this point.

Mack is a projected second rounder, so is Barwin. Wood might go in the third? Who know?

I've also been keen on guys like Sidbury, Quinn Johnson, Joel Bell, Greg Isdaner, Cody Brown, Zack Follet, Duke Robinson, and Phi Loadholt.

None of those guys are first rounders except Duke Robinson and that's a pull.

This link is for all of you Rey and Mack fans. They have videos and reports of them.

I just want a starter at either RT or SLB this year. Anything else would be gravy.

If we can get one, I agree that OT is a pressing need. I am not sold on our ancient right side of the defensive line. I still think Blache only brought back Wynn and Daniels so he can draft a playmaking youngster who will be ahead of the learning curve with 20+ years of experience to help him along the way.
I just want a starter at either RT or SLB this year. Anything else would be gravy.
Is there a chance we could move down and fill both with good players? That's really what we need to hit on this draft!

I dunno, Pete. I'd just hate to pass on a player who could be a 10-year starter. It just seems to me that if Andre Smith is there, then the Skins need to take him. I'm not sure that there's anybody the Skins wouldn't be able to pass on at the SLB position, so there's probably a greater than a 50% chance that the Skins will try to trade down.

Are we convinced that Andre Smith or Oher can just move to RT and be a proficient and effective starter from day one? That's my biggest concern with drafting a OT at 13, we're drafting someone to play out of position. Why not draft DE/OLB there and then pick up a RT in the third-where we're likely going to get a OT who played RT for 3-4 years already.

SouperMeister 04-03-2009 09:44 AM

Re: After the fiasco-Please no QB talk! ;-)

If we come out of draft day with a long time starter at RT, I really believe the offense will take a huge leap forward. This assumes that one or more of the young receivers drafted last year emerges as a solid contributor.

Trade down, maybe with Denver. They like Sanchez and he is there at 13, trade to 18 and pick up another pick. maybe trade again after that.

Give Heyer a chance to earn the RT spot.

DRAFT MAUALUGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! London will be gone in a year and Blades is small. He is the only LB besides Aaron Currey who has HOF potential. Stop only looking at this season, look to the best interest of our team moving forward. He could be our emotional leader/field general for the next decade!

I have no problem with what you're thinking. In fact, I've pretty much convinced myself that Tyson Jackson is the safest - not necessarily the best, but the safest - pick for the Redskins at #13. He is a prototypical LDE in a 4-3 and we need one of those.

If Denver likes Sanchez at 13, wouldn't they also like him at 12, which is where they are picking? Just saying.

Seriously doubt Sanchcez is there at 12 or 13. Most of the mocks I have seen have Sanchez gone in the top 7.

very thin QB crop this year, and lots of teams in the top 10 have that need.

true, paintrain, forgot the also had the 12'th pick. i'd still trade down to get more picks if possible. if not take best available ol or lb

I hope we can trade down and get the 2nd round pick back. Then draft the best OL, DL or LB with the 1st, 2nd & 3rd round draft picks.

I agree. I understand the argument that we should stay at 13 and get a top-shelf stud. I would not be unhappy if this happens.

However, it seems to me that the Redskins are a better team if they fill more holes than if they fill one hole with a beast. Therefore I am a trade-down fan. The Skins possibly could still land a very fine DE or OLB late in the first round and pick the best experienced (i.e. not changing position) RT in the draft in the second. Hopefully, voila, two very good players who start soon, both acquired by the end of the first day of the draft.
