Skins Get a Punter!

Tom Tupa signed a contract and is back with his old friend place Kicker John Hall. With LS Ethan Albright signing that has a big part off special Teams taken care of. Also specking of special teams Kevin Mitchell also signed and will ba a back up MLB! Another that may sign today is Lions lineman Eric Beverly who can play cener and gaurd. If that happens Larry Moore could be cut to make more cap room. Also there is talk Canidate is going to be cut as well. Last Jerametrius Butler CB for the Rams is coming in for a look at Redskins Park for a Nikel back spot.

Is that official? I can't find it anywhere

Daseal 03-06-2004 12:45 PM

Wow, Tom Tupa is awesome. 2nd best punt avg in NFL last year I think (going from memory)

cpayne5 03-06-2004 12:53 PM

Anyone heard anything about Dave Fiore's status? Seems to me that Doug Dockery won the starting guard spot last year and with these Olinemen coming in he should be cut to clear up some space.

EEich 03-06-2004 01:09 PM

I think I like this signing. He can play QB in a pinch... great for fake punts. But he's 38 years old and we signed him to a 4 year deal. He wouldn't be related to George Blanda, would he?

Daseal 03-06-2004 01:12 PM

Those punters sure take a lot of abuse.

johnnyredskin63 03-06-2004 01:20 PM

i wonder if there is any chance of brian mitchell coming back?

Spearhead 03-06-2004 01:23 PM

tupa would be a great pickup

And maybe I just happened to see every mistake and missed block Dockery made all season, and maybe the coaching was to blame as well, but I was really disappointed in his play last year. Slow feet, and he made a ton of mental mistakes.

SmootSmack 03-06-2004 01:26 PM

Never mind the Ramsey v Brunell QB battle this summer, the one to watch will be Gardner vs Tupa for 4th string QB. :D

As for Dockery, I think he was forced into the lineup a lot sooner than the Redskins would have liked but as the season went along he got better and there are high expectations that he will continue his progress in 2004

Not usually... but remember what Barker's nose looked like after he tried to make that tackle. Ouch.

No thank you.

johnnyredskin63 03-06-2004 01:32 PM

compound fracture of the nose on thanksgiving day 2002,his nose looked like turkey guts as i recall.

Daseal 03-06-2004 01:43 PM

I was being sarcastic about punters, EE. Saying they can play for a long, long, long time! They get hit very rarely.

Barkers nose was gross!

Give Dockery a break. He was, after all, a rookie last year. With his size and speed I think Bugel will whip this guy into a monster. Opposing defenses will be in awe when they see this guy (325 pounds) leading sweeps.

skinsfanthru&thru 03-06-2004 11:21 PM

plus as far as dockery making mistakes last year, if I remember correctly every o-lineman looked like a rookie a few times last year under spurriers blocking scheme.

cpayne5 03-07-2004 12:08 AM

You mean you don't like blocking schemes that put a TE on Simeon Rice, Skinsfan? Haha, what a joke. Good thing Bugel and the boys are bringing good ole slobber nocker football back to DC!

no truer words have ever been spoken except maybe thank goodness Gibbs is back on the job.

Daseal 03-07-2004 12:49 AM

I think the fall for this went on the O line coach and some of it on the Running Backs coach. They would always try to chop block, and they would always miss.

dieselhog 03-07-2004 03:23 PM

That's down to those damn stupid face masks they wear - you know the face mask without the face mask?

Matt Turk was the best punter in here for a while and built like a Tight End, that guy was huge. 6'5" 240 or so. Like John Hall, he is big enough to be a real player.

johnnyredskin63 03-08-2004 06:00 PM

tom tupa, punter and backup qb.has he ever been a pro bowler?i liked matt turk too,but he would have never been able to live down the basketball broken finger or his late brother's bad snap against the bucs either.real sad about his brother i thought.
