re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
About time we did something about our punter situation.. Hope this signing will pan out well for us..
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
about time we sign a good punter
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Yes. Yes. Here is a signing that I agree with 150%. Might turn out to be an impact signing for us.

re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Good good good, something to make me take my mind off this mark sanchez dibacle
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Funny thing on this is, and it was either JLC or Matt Terl on the Skins comcast show- I had just heard how we were going to stick with what we have. Again leading me to think that everything you hear is disinformation.

re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Nice move! Very nice indeed.
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Wow, good news, let's hope this doesn't become the only good news of the draft week.
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Damn Im so glad that we now have a proven punter now lets get some pics for Campbell and then draft Sanchez along with a defensive end or linebacker in the 3rd round. I think that Sanchez will end up being a better pro than Campbell anyway but I just did not want to give a whole lot in the draft to get him but old well.
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
NOOOOOO!!! Colt was supposed to be our Punter (and QB, DB, K and maybe WR too).
Really though, good signing. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Great, we have a guy who can actually punt further than he can piss and is capable of holding kicks.
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Outstanding!

I don't know. There's a rumor going around that Smith can piss farther than Sanchez can throw! |

My head is spinning with so many rumors about us trading away our picks and players in order to get Snachez. I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario on Sat and hope I don't get too riled up and smash the TV if we trade up. On the bright side, I'm stoked that someone in the FO has the good sense to get Hunter Smith and address a position we were weak at last year without compromising picks or current players. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Finally...
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Well there's some good news for the week

LOL. Man, when did everyone in here become a comedian. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
[Sarcasm]They only made this move because we are going to need a punter more often with a rookie QB![/sarcasm]
Seriously, this is a really solid move. Good punter + good defense=shorter fields |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Finally! We got someone that I actually wanted! Haynesworth . . . . eh whatever. This move was actually worth the money. This might make up for not getting Mack and drafting Sanchez, not!

We just graduated from clown school |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Well at least we won't be blowing another pick on a punter this year (thanks Vinnie).

Now that's funny! Smith is exactly the guy we needed to sign for punter. Outstanding job by the FO. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Now this right here makes sense, lets hope we continue on that route this weekend.

At the top of the class I might add. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Finally a move that will make a significant difference next year...
I hope to God they don't piss away another draft for Snyder's eye candy. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
Great signing!

re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
lets hope he gets the job done...

LOL if we draft Sanchez we wont have any picks to draft with. We need to get up to picks 3 to 5 to get him. We have no 2nd rd so what are we giving up. Oh let me guess our 3rd this year and a 2nd next year. Sounds about right how our Front Office gets taken to the cleaners. Cause we always look so desperate to make a move. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
I thought we took care of our punting situation in the 2008 draft on Durrant Brooks from Georgia Tech. Oh thats right we cut him cause he could not hack it. Nice wasted pick.
|
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
I figured we were going to sign him, but man with everything else that's been going on lately I totally forgot him.
But, to me, this move is a reminder that we need to look at the big picture-meaning all our free agents moves and draft picks-this offseason before making any assesment of how we did. So if we draft Sanchez, yet are still able to fill other needs (getting a punter was one) then I still think it could be a pretty good offseason. Of course, what we would all like is a good regular season and playoffs. |
re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
I don't know a lot about punting but I'd guess that the best yardstick for judging a punter's effectiveness would be the average net gain per punt?
How has Hunter Smith done the last 3 years in this category? 2008 - 11th in the league. 2007 - 37th in the league. 2006 - 30th in the league. That doesn't exactly convince me our punting woes are over. |

Hunter is 31, has had a solid avg yard per punt-consistently higher than the Skins punter in any given year, and hopefully will be an upgrade. As it stood before the signing, our punter was (ok I don't know his name, but he couldn't beat out Frost, Plack or Brooks). All we want from our punter is consistency, and not to shank when we are backed up. Hunter has proven capable of atleast that. |
Re: Redskins Sign Hunter (The Punter) Smith
dont know much about the guy, but this hit on one of my least favorite cowboys is awesome.
