Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
since todays the big day, who do you prefer? im a Kiper man. i like the whole macho, mafia, big hair thing going on. plus, as far as knowledge, no one can compete wth him
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I like Kiper too, he's old school. I just remember Bill Polian saying on TV, "who the hell is Mel Kiper, Jr??"
And he turned out to be right. That and the hair is dreamy. |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Mayock. Mayock, Mayock, Mayock.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I'd like Kiper a lot more if I didn't have to pay for everything he writes.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I'm old school I like Mel Kiper's passion and Knowledge when he is talking about the players. He also gets so heated when debating other draft experts. Mel Kiper helps make the NFL Draft become what it is today.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Kiper, mayock is so inaccurate at times and mcshays a douche
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Kiper all the way. That hair gets bigger every year it seems.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I like Kiper the best but I like the overall NFL Network crew better than ESPN's. I'm tired of Boomer (although he's dying to use Dirty Sanchez and knows he can't) and his mancrush on TJ..
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I'm a Kiper guy. He's done this so long and gives great analyisis on teams needs. I think he's been right about our picks like Sean, Laron, and Rocky weeks before the draft.

Mayock |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Mayock, i get tired of Kiper's schtick. McShay comes off as an ass most of the time.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
What's the question exactly? Prefer in terms of knowledge, or their style?
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
i guess i meant knowledge. but just basically what your preference is
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I love Kiper...he's the best and the original. I think Mayock is really good though. McShay...no thanks.
Speaking of McShay...does anyone else find it odd that he seems to be on ESPN more then Mel leading up to the draft? Kiper seems to be so under utilized by ESPN. Not sure if thats his doing or ESPN's doing. Smoot? |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I think they all offer something unique. Hard to say who I really prefer
|

Anything you need, he's extremely helpful. |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Sometimes Kiper gets on my nerves (I think it's the hair), but I don't dislike him. McShay is really solid IMO. I'm not sure if it's their delivery, but I feel like Mike Mayock is the best talent evaluator of the three. I really love his analysis during the scouting combine.
On a side note, the "Mock McShay" bit on Mike & Mike in the Morning was hilarious. "Hey McShay, are you related to Ryan Seacrest or are the hair and height a coincidence?" LOL! Great stuff. Anyone see this article in the NY Times yesterday? Great read about Mel Kiper and his wife Kim. They run their entire business out of their home in Baltimore. Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
If I had to choose one, I'd say Kiper. That's because of his passion and his style. I love the faces he makes when a team makes a pick that he doesn't like. And he's the original media Draft Guru, as far as I know.
I think Mayock does great write-ups of his evaluations. McShay seems to be on top of all things concerning the NFL Draft. So, I enjoy what each of them has to offer. |

None of them are all correct or all wrong so it is good to have a plurality of voices. If I had to choose just one, though, it would be Mayock in terms of both knowledge and style. |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I like Mayock, Mcshay's a douche and Kiper is very irritating..plus Mayock played the game
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I think Mayock does the best work of the three. However, I think the wisdom in draft analysis comes not just in one unique opinion, but in the collective. As long as they develop their own opinions independent of each other, I think that the process is functional.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Haha nice thread topic for a change. I prefer Kiper in both style and knowledge. He tends to relate things in terms of value more which is the a huge factor in the draft.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I don't get this whole McShay is a douche thing. He's really not, not at all. He's actually a pretty good guy. And, like I said, always willing to help with anything.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I like Kiper but i can't stand listening to Berman for more then 5 minutes. I guess i'll be watching NFLN today.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I am also a Kiper guy, however I wish ESPN would not put the vast majority of his analysis in the "Insider." I usually look at ESPN at work so I can't log in...etc to give me some degree of deniability. Wish Kiper was like Peter King on CNNSI, right up front!
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I like Kiper but cant watch because Berman likes to announce every draft pick 5 seconds before the commish, That drives me apeshit.
It's all about mayock this year. |

I don't think he comes across well on tv. There're times where I catch a segment that he's doing and his personality (or at least how it comes across) just rubs me the wrong way. Hard to put a finger on "likability." |
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Kiper is a Character, fun to watch and hear his angle on things.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
Mayock is the man. He gets up on the board and breaks guys down plus like someone else mentioned he's actually played in the NFL. Very very knowledgeable and his vibe isn't as annoying as Mel Kiper.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
I think they all have something to add but the draft just would'nt seem right to me without Kiper.
|
Re: Kiper, Mayock, or Mcshay?
The funny giant heads on NFLN crack me up everytime

Smoot?[/quote] from what i understand, ESPN is grooming mcshay and phasing out kiper... which lead kiper getting a little bit pissy towards mcshay when they started debating each other... which turned into them not liking each other, which lead to more venom between them... i guess that ESPN likes their NFL gurus to be dicks to each other... and with clayton v salisbury over due to the cryptkeeper comments, they needed new guys to piss each other off... i like them all, i guess... but, no one should put too much stock in their mocks, as i saw that last draft kiper got the most picks right out of the popular gurus, which something like 7 out of 31... my wife could probably get that many right just guessing... |

But Kiper is one of the guys grooming him. I don't think they really have a problem with each other |

Got ya. I guess from my perspective, it's funny how I see people off camera and what we see of them on camera can be so different. There are guys we all probably think must be great to hang out with off-camera and those we can't stand. But sometimes the exact opposite ends up being true. |

What's the deal with these two? It's like ESPN is trying to have rivals on their own network and it blew up in their face w/ Sean S. and Clayton. Just silly ass games and stuff. I pretty much stayed on NFLN. I'm so over Chris Berman. And maybe you can explain this.... Trent Dilfer is good and very knowledgable, but he just comes arcoss as overly dramatic when talking about QB's and it's sooooo evident that he has a hard on for Sanchez. Just annoying.... |

What's the deal with Kiper and McShay? As for Dilfer, I haven't really noticed it. Guess I haven't watched him that much. |

I mean they agree sometimes, they disagree sometimes. I guess I don't see the big deal (I miss Salisbury) |

Agree 100%. I think Mayock is the best of the three. I like them all (Kiper can be pretty annoying at times), but Mayock's superior knowledge of the game is evident right away when listening to his breakdowns. |
