How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I don't mind a bit of mess and clutter, but not a big fan of it being actually dirty, sometimes I'll let it slide for a bit but every few days I have to at least do a full clean of the kitchen, which I used to be messy with when I lived alone. I wish I had a picture of this place when I moved in, dishes stacked on the stove, counters, sink, dishwasher empty hahaha.
In my room it's pretty messy, but not dirty. Just clothes, newspapers, and stuff laying around everywhere. Desk full of CD's, a couple beer bottles from last night, etc. Do you ever clean up after roommates (if you have them)? I don't really mind since they let me move in before I even had the money to offer (friend and his wife, 4 year old kid too, so it's crazy). Seems every few days I have 2 dishwasher loads I do, along with some handwashing. About to go clean the rest of the house, dog hair and tissues everywhere. I've finally met my match for being messy, I thought that I was bad. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I have maid service clean my place every two weeks. Around the house I try to do the little things to keep the place nice but you always have those days where you're like f'ck'it. I detail my car every summer season. I'll wash it now and then but there is no point around here.

Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I've done a 180 from the way I was when I was younger. I used to be a big slob, but now I'm more on the neat freak side of things. The bad thing is once I start I can't stop.
I'm really bad with my car. I even keep swiffers in the car so I can constantly wipe down the dash. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I can deal with clutter and disarray, but I really can't handle a dirty bathroom or a dirty kitchen. I can't let the toilet, bathroom floor, tub, or sink go more than 1 week without a serious scrub. And I can't let dishes pile up or messes sit on the counter.
I want my food to stay sanitary. And I want my bathroom to be a place where I go to get cleaner, not dirtier. It's hard to beat a shower in a freshly cleaned bathroom, too. My wife's a neat freak, she jumps in and does most of the cleaning. But if she didn't I'd be all over the bathroom and the kitchen. |

I (or my wife) make sure the kitchen sink and counter is cleaned every night after dinner. Don't want dirty dishes piling up. But do we leave papers lying around the living room? Sure I can be messy, but not dirty |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I heard Obama has the White House pretty trashed and leaves crap all over the place.
|
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
Oh man. Even thinking about cleaning makes me exhausted. My place shows the effects of that.

LOL, firstdown is multitalented. Not only can he change a political thread to a non-political one, but he can change a non-political one to a political one! |

I hear wifes train their husbands in getting their shit together and keeping clean.

Thats what my wife did to me and after you get in the habit of just putting stuff back in its place it becomes second nature. Now my garage is a little messy and my car still could use some work but with 222,000 miles cleaning it does not make it run any better. |

That's the common perception, and maybe it's true, I dunno. I definitely was messier when I wasn't married. Of course I was also a lot younger. In my case at least, it wasn't like the wife cracked the whip and said "keep the kitchen clean or no vag for you." I think over time I've just come to appreciate the cleaner environment. I don't know if that's a product of aging, or just a product of getting used to the cleaner environment that she kept. Either way, I am indeed more interested in helping with the cleaning than I was when I was single and 21. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
One of the things that was a bit of an eye opener for me when my wife and I moved in together was just how messy she is. Clothes lying everywhere, toothpaste lying on the bathroom counter without the top on, empty glass on the nightstand...crazy

Me too. I guess it is a college thing. I'll be out in a bit and I expect to change. It's just not "cool" after college to be messy. |

So has she started cleaning up after herself more or is it only guys that get cleaner? My wife cleans our home and I just try to not make a mess and I do the yard stuff. I do help clean the kitchen after dinner. |

After I gave up more closet space and dresser drawers for her clothes she has gotten less messy. Seriously she has like three closets and two dressers for her clothes...and yet there still isn't enough room. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
My truck is almost spotless. I wash it around once every week, to two weeks max. I get it detailed and waxed every 6 months or so. I LOVE to take it offroad, and I figure if it's going to get dirty, get it REALLY dirty. I've had it to the point that the only part that wasn't muddy was the section left clean by the windshield wipers.
About the house, I am a little anal about cleanliness. Can't stand kid toys all over the place, or dog toys. They can get it as messy as they want, but when they are done, cleaning needs to take place. I can't stand a messy kitchen either, and I seem to have this really bad mentality about cleanliness of the coffee table. I hate clutter there. But oddly enough, could care less about clutter in the bedroom. Clothes are thrown on the floor (although only in 1 pile, 2 piles is too much lol), and clutter seems to be abundant. That's the only room that I not only don't care if it's cluttered, but seem to enjoy the clutter there. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
I keep all of my stuff in a cluttered pile; no organization. Luckily, my wife is super-organized. I do like the kitchen and bathrooms to stay fairly clean. Food, dirt, grime, etc needs to be cleaned up as soon as they make themselves known.

Oh man, every chick I've lived with has been messy. The only difference being, I was messy in my room but they are big time in the bathrooms and common areas as well. I don't need anyone else to do my dishes or clean off where I sit on the sofa or whatever so I try to show the same respect in those areas. Not that I'm OCD about it or get mad if others don't, I think that it's just respectful and the right thing to do. Empty glass on the nightstand isn't that crazy though, it's just for water right? |

Maybe you can talk her into donating what she's not going to use/what doesn't fit anymore, etc. Hopefully all of the extra clothes means that she dresses well, I'd sacrifice space for that, as shallow as it may sound. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
Funny thread to pull me away from lurching.
I keep the klitchen pretty well clean in my house sincei do the cooking. My wife half asses the rest of the house. Seriously the other day I noticed a shadow in the corner. Serious cobwebs. I cleaned it but its got to get pretty bad for me to do something about it. I hate cleaning. As far as cars go, it seems like the nicer the car the less time I put into it. When I was younger I kept my crap cars immaculate. I'm talkin seat covers were shampooed monthly, waxed every few weeks, smelling like cocoa butter, steering wheel covers changed out every time they got dirty. My cousin made mention of it a few days ago when he noticed how clean I'm keeping my newest truck, which is 10 years old and paid for. The truck I just turned in on lease, a 2006 Tundra, I kept a wreck from the time I bought it brand new. I've even Rain-X'ed the windshield twice and bought new floormats and a steering wheel cover for the truck! Maybe its age though. I cleaned my wife's minivan and started shopping for some big chrome wheels for it this week as well. |

Oh yeah. I'm pretty anal about cleanliness, and my girlfriend, who I've lived with for a while, is the exact opposite. The world is her laundry basket I swear. I love her to death, but man it drives me nuts sometimes. |

Yeah. Its also a financial decision lol. The tires are an ANNUAL expense of 1600 dollars. That's replacing all 4 every year @ 400/tire. And that's cheap. They're the stupid run flats. Now that it cracked 100k miles and out of warranty the Odessy will have some bling! I'm doing it for her birthday. |

Hell you might as well drop it a few inches and throw some tints on the windows. Doesn't sound like you're one to half-ass things. Just deck that puppy out. Then when your wife shows her friends the minivan, she can say "You Od-essy this shit??" POW! Sorry, it's a been a long day and I'm a little punchy.:) On a side note, I had no idea run-flats were so expensive. |
Re: How clean do you keep your place/car/whatever?
As anyone with kids ranging from 3 years old to 8 years old and 2 medium sized dogs, knows that you do what you can to keep the important area's clean, kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms. The other rooms you get when you can and hope that you don't wreck the car due to exhaustion from doing everyday house chores like cooking, laundry, dishes, and what not, then homework with your children, then running them to t-ball or whatever after school activity they are in. Yeah, so if I go 2 weeks with out cleaning my living room or whatever room in the house, well so be it...

Again, I'm replacing the wheels because I can't mount non-run flat tires on the wheels from the factory because they have some kind of gel packs on the wheels (they only come on the touring model). The tires only last around 15k miles and are a little over 400 dollars/tire with installation, and only certain Honda dealers can work on them. We had a flat on vacation and it took 2 days to find a dealer in SC that could fix it. Honda ate the tow bills and the dealer that fixed it actually just sold us a wheel and tire from another van that was already installed since they couldn't actually mount up a wheel. So, I need new wheels anyway, may as well get some that look decent. I'm not getting dollar sign wheels or gold teeth, but Im looking for something shiny that fills the wheel well. I'll be saving money if I can buy a qulity tire and install it, and I do think it will look good.... different. So I don't think it's "rock bottom". My wife plays video games and loves to go offroading with me... I think she'll get a kick out of it. I saw a black one on 81 the other day and I thought it looked great. Ours is charcoal but I think it will work. for those who pay attention... I did get my old job back so I won't be using Schneed's tax money to pay for my big shiny rims :( |
