Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Redskins Insider - Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
After the Redskins' last organized team activity of the month, Coach Jim Zorn praised the work of starting quarterback Jason Campbell and expressed satisfaction with the progress shown this week. |

Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
August can't get here soon enough for me; I'm sure the players and coaches are hoping it takes a while.
Good read, glad to see that Zorn is being honest about the receiving corp and not just a talking head. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I hope we are fututher ahead this year.LOL Did we even have a play book at this time last year?
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Jansen getting some work at Center and Guard? Hmmmm....
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
yeah I found that pretty interesting especially considering according to Zorn he's actually doing a good job at Center...

At worst case we need a decent backup for Rabach. If someone else is going to take over RT, I like the move. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Jansen HAS to become versatile for us. He is almost 100% not gonna start and we CAN'T cut him so we need him to be able to play either G spot, RT and C in a pinch. Versatility in the backup linemen really is a godsend. Lestw e end up with Greisinger playing LT against one of the best pass rushers in the league.

a play that will live in infamy |

I agree. I think Jansen might even be an upgrade at Center. Granted, he doesn't have much experience playing the position, but he's a MUCH better run blocker than Rabach. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I like Zorny's positive comments about and support for Jason Campbell. What he said about JC is precisely what we need to hear: speeding up reads, quicker release, etc. I also like how he held the feet of the young WR's to the fire in terms of on the field expectations.
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Nice read, we just need people to step up.
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I would hope we are further ahead...if we weren't I would be calling for your ass to be fired.

No joke...that's just like a no brainer comment. Maybe he should address how he is going to combat a drop off after mid season. 6-2 out of the gate was great...can you do anything after that sir? |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Jansen getting some work at Center and Guard? Hmmmm....
He was getting work at Center (and maybe Guard, I forget) this time last year as well. Ultimately, the best-perhaps only-way for him to extend his career is on the interior. |

Out of all of those comments, you focus on the "further ahead" line, which I'll bet even Zorn would say was a throwaway line? |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I believe Geisinger plays for the Panthers now.
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Not to go really off topic. Adderbury was released today. It looks like Hunter is our boy.

Yes, because it's in the thread title. The Skins always do this hyping shit year in year out and I'm happy to shoot this "happy-hype-talk" down year in year out. I have always been consistent with my "show me, don't tell me" sentiments...if you don't already know you better ask somebody. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I agree with Saden. That Redskins Insider post said absolutely nothing.
The only thing I took from that was Devin Thomas' hammy is 100%, so I guess that's good news. |

So calling the young WR's "sad" is "hyping shit"? Zorn's comments seemed to me to be a pretty honest and straightforward assessment. |

That's one of the things I really like about him. You're not gonna get a whole lot of BS. |

Don't play these games with me son, I won't stand for it. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I honestly think we can win 10+ games aslong as our Offense can score atleast 20 ppg. I think we have a Playoff type D but it's on JC and our WR'S to prove the critics wrong.

We only averaged 16.6 ppg last year, 3rd or 4th worst in the league. I dont think we have done alot to upgrade our offense. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
In view of the fact that the Redskins twice tried to replace him in the off-season, Zorn's praise of JC seems a bit hollow to me.
I wonder if Zorn was as keen to trade for Cutler or Sanchez as his bosses were. Is anyone here in the know concerning Zorn's true assessment of JC? |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
I think Zorn has moved on and I think his praise of Campbell is genuine. From all accounts JC really was sharp in mini camp.
I really doubt he was the force behind trying to upgrade at the QB spot, but I'm sure he had some say in rubber stamping whatever move the FO was going to make. |
We only averaged 16.6 ppg last year, 3rd or 4th worst in the league. We won't know until the season whether we have the horses to develop, but I think you are suggesting a complete (or moderate) offensive overhaul, which is precisly what NOT to do in this situation.
Admittedly, I think we missed some oppertunities in free agency to improve the offense, but that doesn't mean we can't/won't improve. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
JC being sharp in camp doesnt exactly give me a warm in fuzzy about his regular season performance.
|
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Again, player development.

Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
Mike Holmgren has an opinion unbecoming of a future Redskins consultant.

He isn't your son...no one here is and your dismissive attitude isn't cute or well liked by many. I tend to agree with you about the comments but the way you talk AT people is old. |

So last year's performance is still relevant.. or should we just wait for the season? You seem to want to ship him out now. |

Purely statistically, I am likely older than you, so I could not be your "son." From the standpoint of logic, ad hominem arguments (where you attack the person, not the argument) are always fallacious. They are always logically bankrupt. Ad hominem arguments also make you look foolish. So please, for the benefit of us both in the future, discuss my views rather than attacking my person. So, back to the point: How is Zorn's calling the young WR's "sad" in your words "hyping shit?" Or is Zorn more honest than you give him credit for? |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
This isn't really a surprise. They should be further along.

Also, I'm entirely convinced you understand what ad hominem argument is. |
Re: Zorn: 'We're Further Ahead' This Year
For better or worse, Zorn says whatever he thinks whenever he thinks it. This was written about extensively last year by writers like Peter King and Sally Jenkins. It was a source of friction between the coach and his star running back. It is and has been extremely well publicized.
If anyone doubts that Zorn would say that Cambpell or the WR's or whoever was sucking if they were in fact sucking, well, I would have to refer them to last season. |

I read the article (the second link is better) or I could not have asked the question. Here is what Zorn said about the young wide receivers: "I think that's kind of the negative: we have the 'potential'. We've got some young guys, but they haven't really played yet. And that's what we're hoping, is that the 'potential' becomes a reality to what we think they're gonna be. And I'll tell you this: they have the attitude of want-to, and that's part of the battle, and they're also working hard to get it all down, listening to their coach, Stan Hixon, so that they can be in the right place at the right speed with the right cut and then finish it with the catch, and hopefully we'll get some yards after catch as well. So all those things'll be put together, but right now you're right, man: it's just potential. And that's kinda the sad thing about it." So please answer my question: how is that "hyping shit"? |
